    There are some competitors out there as far as game systems but the infrastructure for organized and/or competitive game play, plus the largest player base is in 40K. That is why I play 40K and have many friends locally, across the state of Texas, and even across the country. The friends and community are a great reason to play 40K.

      Gotta love Death Guard. I think it was both the Lord of Virulence and Contagion that sold me on them. I was able to get the latter through a lucky ebay deal, and it's one of my favorite models in my collection.

    Ok I know this probably isn't for me but I guess this is the best place to say this:
    I've never actually gotten any models, just always looked too expensive. But I've played on TTS and gotten somewhat into the lore which is where my issues emerged:
    I basically can't stand space marines because while some lore isn't really consistent with this but it's fairly regularly stated that in at least some way 1 in 100 humans are successful made into a marine and no media has been able to actually convince me an average marine is worth the potential of 100 average guardsmen. And that's not even to mention the odd exceptional guardsman who can in mock battles best multiple marines like that sniper who secured 4 marine kills. Yes Imperial guard is my preferred faction but that's not all
    I have not read it but I think it's probably a Ciaphus Cain book that I've been told includes scenes that almost explicitly state that living people are used as target practice for commissars. That just broke me in reguards to the universe, prior to that I could ignore 4th wall breaking logic and think to myself "if someone actually sat down and looked at the numbers they'd see guardsman are way more efficient than marines and they could use that to build up enough forces to beat a couple other factions back and maybe one day the wars could end"
    But now, none of the systems can change or it's heresy and everything is so wasteful they basically lose as much fighting as if they'd just laid down and been walked over. I can't invest into any story. A planet gets saved or more likely sacrificed to slow a bigger threat, so? If it weren't for the fact it'll keep going functionally in stasis as long as it makes money I'd be wondering if the imperium would be taken down by another faction or by bleeding their own population dry until everything collapsed and they uselessly try to intimidate a pile of corpses into working the factories
    Chaos aren't much better since they seem to be mostly represented by their marines who I have the same mathmatic logistical issues with, Fabius Bile wanting to lower the success rate of making marines as if that's the goal and he'd never heard of diminishing returns. And iron warriors bombing the planet they want to take gene-stock from, like if you kept going long enough there wouldn't be what you want any more and you'd have expended so much ammo to not get what you want. Plus what happens if some manage to slip through your brainwashing and want revenge for their family that you killed? If your answer is "none can slip through" you're forgetting that space marines are supposed to be immune to all diseases and yet nergal finds a way, never trust an absolute statement in 40k
    So yeah I just can't invest myself into a setting so wasteful and with such little hope for change even ignoring the corporate interests in preventing change

      Though I think our opinions will be different, you bring up a lot of interesting points, so I'll throw in my opinion.
      As far as marines are concerned, chaos or Imperial, I do share your irritation with their logistics. 1000 Marines per chapter, meaning one per whole Imperial world, is beyond dumb. I often choose to ignore specific numbers in 40k or add a zero or two mentally. This is a decent flaw in the setting.
      However, as far as marines being "worth it" goes. I think of it more like this: the acceptance rate for the Navy Seals is exceptionally low too. Does that mean that we should have no navy seals, and all regular soldiers? Not necessarily, because Navy Seals can accomplish certain kinds of things that normal soldiers can't. I think of space marines the same way. They aren't always used with this logic in mind, but when they are, I think they work.
      The commissar target practice thing is something I've never heard so I'd assume it isn't widespread but that is eye-rollingly stupid.
      I think one of the main things you're also hitting on is that there are plenty of stories that are basically "guy with bolter kills 1,000,000 bad guys and saves random planet #3,284" and yeah, those are pretty boring too.
      40k is at its most interesting when the idea of a setting that is so bleak is explored on a character level. The First Heretic, Lords of Silence, or even the recent Lion: Son of the Forest are about characters experiencing this world, rather than Michael Bay esque action. Those kinds of stories are where 40k is great, it's just a shame there is also as much stuff that is mediocre to bad.
      My last point is that the setting is changing faster than ever before with recent lore, and generally speaking, the "bleak and evil for its own sake" stuff is getting less and less, which is a good thing.
      If that the end of the day this doesn't change your opinion that's absolutely fine, but you brought up a lot of concerns I'd had before so I figured I'd share my thoughts.

    • @RowbotMaster
      @RowbotMaster หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@J-Bat I think I understand where you're coming from I have heard of Guilliman in the modern imperium realising just how unsaveable it is does sound interesting but I don't know if I'd enjoy it, I assume that's the character stuff you're talking about.
      And I'm sorry but I gotta nitpick the math justifications: making the numbers 1000:1 or 10,000:1 just makes it worse, I doubt those were the numbers you meant but anyway. Navy marines don't kill most of their washouts, the washouts can still join the army or something but the impression I usually get is that 99% die on the operating table when they put the new organs in which is after their dumb death march hazing rituals. And marines only doing things that normal people can't seem to require ignoring about 99% or lore because it seems even drop pods there are variants used by other imperial forces that are perfectly safe for normal humans to use, which kinda makes sense in a way when you realise none of the organs say "prevents all other organs liquefying when dropped from orbit" and I'd have to ignore the existence of most marine vehicles because very few of those organs make you drive a tank better and just, yeah there's too much

    I had a question about 3D printing miniatures for 40K. Is there a way to take physical miniatures and somehow 3D print models you already brought? So you can just have an army of models you already brought?

    • @J-Bat
      @J-Bat  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yamez here, while yes that is something that you could do, it is very impractical. There are a variety of apps that allow you to scan your miniatures. However, they are imprecise and it would require an immense amount of work in an application like blender to fix and clean up the scan before it could be printed. I wouldn't recommend it.

    • @MarkNiceyard
      @MarkNiceyard หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@greggonzalez661 Okay, I see. Fair enough. If you want parts to get apart, then super glue has surely a sensible field of use. I don't want to ever come the parts apart and if I rarely do, I just cut it off where I want to be separated. No problem. And no need for super glue for me. I additionally made the experience that after two decades super glue is eaten away by time, temperature shifts and UV light. So a few old models just fell apart because of that. I can not recommend it. I use epoxy or plastic glue instead where ever I can replace super glue because it is the most convenient but worst glue of the three.
