This is sublime, Godly. Amir Khan and Bismillah Khan were possibly the two greatest artistes of the subcontinent of the twentieth century. Amir Khan's gayaki had that wholeness and perfection that no one, just no one else, had.
I was in tears throughout the journey.What a soulful Bhatiyar by my beloved Ustad.I came to know about the Great Ustaad after my marriage when I used to visit his shaagird Kamal Banerjee in Kolkata.He was teaching then Deshkaar to his students.Five students were being taught 5 Diff.bandish.All of them brilliant , sparkling.There I felt the Giant of Ustaad AAMIR KHAN Shaheb .He was the real Aamir,meaning the rich.Ustad Bismillah Khan Saheb kya kahna.Kya performance specially his dara- Dara,diri-diri, probably he developed this & applied in Shehnai so majestically.They are great souls to have lived in this Pawan dharti & made Hindustaan so rich. 🙏👍

It didn't really matter back then if a Muslim sang a bhajan dedicated to Krishna or a Hindu sang a Muslim devotional piece. If I know any better, the Bhakti and Sufi Muslim traditions had taken root in India at that time and Muslim poets had started making references to Hindu deities like Rama and Krishna in their devotional poetry. I bet the reason they did this was to convey to the masses the idea of the love of God and so it was obvious that they'd use terms by which the locals already referred to the deity.
I agree. I myself have set to music a number of Sikh Shabads and Hindu Bhajans and have been singing them in Gurdwaras and Temples all over the US and Canada. I have made a cd of some of them too. This gives me a real spiritual feeling.
This is the magic of Hindusthaani Classical Sangeet.. ultimate joy.. you will feel that you are starting from a beautiful crystal clear small path of a very thin river and then slowly slowly you will reach to an Ocean.. huge.. deep..endless ...

The simplicity of the Sargam and cadence in Desi Todi, the soulful stirring of a new beginning in Bhatiyar and Ramkeli, the yearning, passionate 'larajdar' tukra in Yaman, the flawless 'tantrakari' and drut 'layakari' in Bageshree, and the finale in Chandrakauns. A wonderful painting in swara and laya by two great masters.

If I know any better, the Bhakti and Sufi Muslim traditions had taken root in India at that time and Muslim poets had started making references to Hindu deities like Rama and Krishna in their devotional poetry. I bet the reason they did this was to convey to the masses the idea of the love of God and so it was obvious that they'd use terms by which the locals already referred to the deity.
