    Good Job, on this episode of "slow speed" Tomek, I appreciate all your video's, I don't know anything about making a video, it has to take time to know in advance what you're going to say and show how to do it, you have mastered it very well. Thank you for your hard work and time you put into making video's for all of us.

    Im loving the channel. I just went to a tormek T8 from sharpening my knives on a TS prof K03. I use a worksharp w grinder adapter and free hand a bit well, but the im really liking the T8 overall. Im just a hobby sharpener w way to many blades that likes to experiment with different stuff. Your channel has got me thinking of sharpening as a side hustle to see where it can go.

    Tormek must have a love/hate relationship with you. I took a pass on purchasing Tormek when I started my side hustle but recently purchased one due solely to your recommendations. And because of your insight I ordered the ‘custom’ model (w/o wheels or tools) and added Tormek jigs and WW cbn wheels. Love it so far.
    Surely I’m not the only one that bought, or will buy, a Tormek on the strength of your recommendation.
    I picture Tormek or their distributors saying ‘I wish he’d shut up about cbn but man, look at the machines he’s moving’!
    You may well have them between a grinding wheel and a hard place.😁

    • @ALXSHARPEN
      @ALXSHARPEN  ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL thanks they probably don’t even know I exist but I think the time may come that they may change their mind what’s interesting is one of the largest sellers of Tormek here in the USA is also one of the largest sellers of CBN so maybe they will be able to change Tormeks opinion but I don’t have anything against Tormek I love most of their things it’s more the fact that I think their core user for so long where wood workers and not sharpeners that they are a little slow to change and why would they? The have a machine that has needed little change over 50 years so as a sharpening service I wish they did somethings different and maybe in time the will change their views on CBN but if not I still love them and I own all the diamonds wheels as well and will just continue to do my own thing I sure hope they don’t hate me. I I own three T-8s so I have definitely shown my support for the great machines they make.

      @@ALXSHARPENMaybe you could become a paid spokesman (secretly!) for Tormek since your willingness to take on something new obviously has no bounds!
      Appreciate all the info you provide, keep up the good work.
      Also, couldn’t help but notice that you upgraded all your 1x30’s with the lever nuts I sent you.
      Hope they turn out to be a good thing moving forward. Am currently working on a way to adapt sharpening rods to my Wicked Edge so as to sharpen serrated blades. Seems like an otherwise good platform to address serrations. Not having any luck at present but haven’t quite given up yet.

    Hey Paul love your videos! I've learned so much as I'm starting my retirement side hustle. I've been searching for a video in your collection where you identify the hardness of the steel but haven't been able to locate one as of yet. If you haven't done a video addressing the grade/hardness of steel before sharpening, could you please do one? Thanks again for your continual informative videos.

    • @ALXSHARPEN
      @ALXSHARPEN  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s because is rarely and issue for me the only time I’m concerned with steel hardness is EDC’s that are made of one of the super steels when I get one of those I use my Tormek Diamond wheels but everything else isn’t an issue at all everything I use can handle any steel that’s on the market and thankfully no one’s making super steel kitchen knives yet and I honestly hope they never do.

    Hi Paul! I have learned so much from you and I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge and experience with newbies. I have become pretty good at sharpening with 1x30’s and now have my first restaurant contract 😊. I recently purchased a tormek T-8 and 3 CBN wheels (400, 800, 1200), but my results are not very good. Could you point me to any videos you have made about the tormek process so that I can improve? Thank you in advance.
    BTW, I liked your advice about diamond sprays, though I am finding that propylene glycol is much better than alcohol for keeping the particles in suspension and helping them bind to the leather in case you would like to try it.

    • @ALXSHARPEN
      @ALXSHARPEN  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you go to categories I have many videos on Tormek sharpening that can help you. Thank you for the propylene glycol recomondation I tried for months to make my own suspension and it was really hard so I just kind of gave up I will definitely give it a try.

    Thank you very much. I always enjoy your videos. I wrote to Tormek Sweden the idea to built a t8 with 2 diamantstones and 2 waterbassins. So i van sharpen much faster than i do now. The told me that its not going to work because i you work on the one wheel the other one is probably in the way... i don't know what to think about it... so anyway i understand the problem with the speep on a rormek.thank you for your advice.

      If they made a machine wide enough that it could hold two stones and not even worry about the hone because so many of us do it on something else any way that would be great but they are basically catering to wood workers not knife sharpeners that's one reason I have always like CBN and grinding dry I could change the wheel out really fast anyway and just not use water. Now I just use two machines on the same tool box that way I can do a two stone wet or dry set up easy

      It is normal to run 2 wheels on tormek at the same time. There is an adaptor you need for having the second wheel on tormek. And there is also adaptor to speed up the tormek from 90rpm to 125rpm.
      I am wondering why Paul does not use these two features. You do not need second tormek, just adaptor for second wheel.

      @@daniel.rosina it’s not the norm but Vadim from Knife Grinders did it often an has videos to show how to do it. I have never tested it myself so can’t speak to how well it works I just went right to two machines. I also have never felt the need to run mine faster but I know it can be done. I like the current speed and if I need more stock removed first I use my 1x30s or 2x42 then sharpen on the Tormek

      I don't really need the speed to be faster on the sharpening end and even if you doubled it I can't see it keeping pace with what a 1x30 will do for you to make quick corrections and reprofiles. I am happy with its speed for sharpening it's very controlled it's just the getting to the sharpening that I need faster if that make sense.

    I think you need to give a spray bottle a try again on your CBN wheels. I’ve been using a few spritzers on the wheel for each knife, there’s never enough to fill the trough even after a farmers market where I might do 50 to 100 knives

    For catching dust, I use very strong magnets. I have them upon every machine (mostly on belt sanders). It takes cca 80% of dust. You can easily clean the magnets from the metal dust, when you pull a finger of latex gloves on the magnet (you pull that glove finger like a condom onto the magnet). Then, when you want to clean that magnet, you just need to pul the "condome" down (turning it inside out and hide that dust into it, throw it away...)

      I think I used lisol surface cleaner it’s milder than bleach if you do bleach I would Diluted it and maybe just 10 ,15 min in it yes tried storing my regular stones in buckets but you have to be sure the are totally dry now I keep them all open air on a shelf it’s just safer but I rarely use them since I own cbn and diamonds wheels

    What a combination 200 and 600 grit be also good for high speed steel wood turning tools I was told by Harrison at woodturners wonders to go with a two and a four but I think I'd like a finer one so that I can do knives as well to a finer grit and then go to the leather strop

      Okay, thanks. I was thinking of getting a 200 a 600 and a 1000 or maybe 1200 grit CBN wheel for doing combinations of turning tools and knives rather than using my wet stones, which are hard to change grit unless you have 3 different wheels which I do. At different coarsenesses, (is that a word), still you have to get them all soaking wet to work, which is a time consumer and a- mess

      Yes I have all three Tormek diamond wheels but hate using them in the winter in my shop don't want to deal with the water when I can use CBN no water and be done fast and only down side is I need a mask but I don't care it's a shop I make dust all the time. Maybe one day Tormek will get on the CBN bus with the rest of us, but I guess the good thing is we save money because nothing with Tormeks name on it is cheap if the did make CBN wheels they would probably be $150 more than the rest of the world per wheel@@4056yates
