      What should I do about my father? He just learned about Orthodoxy ever since I converted to it. I converted to Orthodoxy about a few months ago, but I still live under his roof as I under 18. I have decided that I want to start attending Orthodox Church (I have longed for it). He said that he will go to the church with me. He says that he wants to start attending the Orthodox Church and, as soon as possible, participate in the Holy sacraments. However, he is a Protestant and he accepts all of the Protestant doctrines and denies the infallibility of the Orthodox Ecumenical Councils. The only options I have are:
      A. Go with him
      B. Don't attend church
      Also, my mother might be under the suspicion that the Orthodox Church is a cult full of pedophilic priests because she has watched the news stories about the Catholics. However, she does not believe this to a radical degree @@RootsofOrthodoxy

Yes, though usually we close it and do not let it open up: God’s revelation is given to something called a loving heart. Everything in this life passes away - only God remains, only He is worth struggling towards. We have a choice: to follow the way of this world, of the society that surrounds us, and thereby find ourselves outside of God; or to choose the way of life, to choose God Who calls us and for Whom our heart is searching.” - Fr. Father this is the biggest Amen I can muster!
    I have been so saddened by this.
    Just as Orthodoxy is becoming discovered by the west, this corrupts our mission.
    Not just from the practice and teaching, but as the church.
    The splintering has been going on for at least 30 years.
    Now I seeing other Orthodox online, just hammering away at other Orthodox jurisdictions. It's heartbreaking.
    I think like you. Thank you. I was feeling a bit despondent at the damage the evil one has perpetrated against the Church.

I believe a house divided is easy prey for attacks of any kind - both in terms of the bigger picture as in the conflicts between countries and on a personal level as well. We must not be of two minds when it comes to worshipping God. We cannot, should not and must not worship God and Mammon at the same time. If everyone were to live our lives according as what our Lord and God and Savior preached as in The Sermon On The Mount, then can there truly be peace in this world!

    I agree. I'm Eastern European and Orthodox and I'm always weary of seeing politics attaching itself to our faith. Some people are projecting, especially on the right what they think we're like and what they think we believe. Well, let's just say that if you look at Eastern Orthodoxy, we're not that big into US style individualism or libertarianism. I don't believe in the separation of Church and state for liberal reasons, to prevent some theoretical theocracy, but to protect the Church and the purity of the faith from the inherent worldly issues that politics brings. A lot of issues have their origins in politicians interfering in faith or men of faith wanting a slice of political power. For example, Henry VIII in England who wanted a son and twisted scripture as he saw fit for his own purposes to get an annulment. Politicians today want to milk the faith for votes, treating it like a simple tool to fool the masses, patriotarde populists waving flags pretending to love the faith, the country and the people when all they want is to steal. Mammon is their god.
    And I've seen some people think Russia is some conservative and Eastern Orthodox heaven on Earth. It's absolutely not! Russia is a much more secular country than people think with quite a lot of atheists. In fact, Eastern Orthodox people are in the minority (40% of the population). 70 years of communist dictatorship and political interference hurt the Russian Church, so much so that to this day a lot of the higher ups are basically former communist KGB officers or informers.

    Conservatism is a common sense way of life that includes God and wisdom of humanity acquired from 7,000 years of experience. We learn from our mistakes with God as our guide. Humanity made many mistakes in world history and Conservatism learns from those mistakes when planning for their future. Conservatism is also supposed to conserve, which goes along with Orthodoxy. Moderation is a good thing for everyone. The biggest problem that we have is allowing everyone else to take the reins or our countries. Look at the mess that we are in. We need more Orthodox people to step up and say enough is enough. God expected David to pick up the rock.

    Yes, we shouldn't focus on liberalism vs conservatism or the left vs the right. We should set our attention/aim towards Christ. If we are putting our attention towards Christ, then our values should come from him and not the world.
    Most of the social issues of the day (e.g., whether to kill a baby in the womb, divorce, LGBTQ issues, etc.) just so happen to align with conservatism. Moreover, our views on these social issues should come from Christ and his church and not from the world.

    Could you please explain how the perpetual virginity of Mary is not a debatable doctrine?

    • @Jonahandwhale
      @Jonahandwhale 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Greetings in Christ! The reason her perpetual virginity is not debatable is because the Orthodox Church has made this a dogma of the Ecumenical Councils. A dogma is not changeable but rather a beautiful permanent stone in the foundation of our Faith. With that being said, perhaps a different way to see it, “how can I understand what the Eastern Church teaches so that it makes sense to me?”

    • @thediscipledlife
      @thediscipledlife 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Jonahandwhale thank you for the reply. Could you point me in the direction of the ecumenical council that establishes the ever-virginity of Mary? I'm just trying to understand where this doctrine comes from and how it was derived. I am protestant, and there's a lot about the Orthodox and catholic church I just don't understand and I am trying to learn. There's some stuff that I do understand and has impacted my life and walk with Christ tremendously. The doctrines concerning Mary though have been problematic for me bc I can't seem to find sound biblical teachings that support them. And I don't mean to sound critical or anything. I'm sincerely trying to understand as I want to follow Christ faithfully. Thank you.

      The Second Council of Constantinople in the year 553 recognized Mary as ever-virgin. Though its earliest written tradition came from a second century text called the “Gospel of James” which called falls Apocryphal scripture and is accepted by the Orthodox Church.
      The Western church did not accept it as they believed that Joseph was also an ever-virgin, whereas the Eastern Church agreed that Joseph was an elderly widower that had children from his previous marriage, which explains the “brothers of Jesus” mention in the Gospels.
      Instead the western church accepted the Infancy Gospel of Psuedo-Matthew.

    Real Christianity conserves morality as a path to Christ, as a path to Salvation. Progressive Christianity destroys morality, destroys the path to Christ.
    Liberty from God is the fall. Conforming to Christ is the solution.

      @LovingtheTruth856 without orthodoxy, you have no morality. You have only relativism, the false worship of human ego instead of Christ, the worship of Human Infinite Dignity instead of God the Father, the worship of temptation to sin instead of the Holy Spirit.

      @@LovingtheTruth856 Both God and the anti-God are trinities because the human soul is a trinity. You have an ego, you have temptation, you have your human dignity.
      The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit- three persons one God, are not just a model of the human family- they exist in your own brain. You don't need either dogma or scripture to believe in the Trinity, you just need to know yourself. Three persons, one God. Three voices in your head, one self.

    Just because no side is perfect doesn't mean one side isn't better than the other. Christ is what's good in anything. Not discerning between good and evil in your life and community and thinking you are being more accomodating or enlightened is just false magnanimity and false humility. There will be many people who are convinced they are Christians who will not be able to discern between Christ and antichrist because they never really confronted the evil in their own hearts before, and are still building plausible deniability instead of being reborn.

    So, this is basically negating the reality that most liberals hate Christianity. I've seen in this channel a lot of woke apologetics very similar to those about the Vatican "don't criticize the culture because we may offend the people". How is that being a Christian?
    You know what is worse about that? That it doesn't matter how much you are afraid to criticize the culture, the culture will never accept Christ. But in the process you will surely distance yourself from Christ and those who truly love him.

      I agree that there is fundamentally and objectively better ideals to support that preserve Christian values. I agree liberalism is objectively part of the spirit of the anti Christ I think he doesn't care to argue and wants people to just be decent. My Russian Orthodox Church has arguments about the Ukraine conflict and I have to remember that although I for a fact support a side 100% I must throw that away and focus what is in my control. Being at least a decent human being. I get so angry sometimes at people because of my us or them mentality.
