I realized I said “launch” a few times but to be clear I’m referring to the Q1 early access. Also there’s a white spec in my shirt and now you can’t unsee it.
If i have to Wait an other F****ing year for early access i Will go Crazy, i get the truble but saying that early access Will release early this year without cheking for any big missing parts Is Just ridiculus
I don't hate raf or the game but this stunt feels irresponsible to Say "early" and also wanting make a new map kinda re-do the tripods and ad VR access and also holding the early access for God know when Is Just ridiculus like WTF
We've been working on the original design behind the scenes, the concept is about 80% done and then it will be modeled and can use the same animations & rig so the implementation of that won't take as long as one might expect. The tripods we've shown are now fully implemented and animated. The HDRP conversion is essentially completed, the new character system is implemented. We have a lot to show soon and we are excited to show it. Performance has also been boosted a lot. The bicycle clip was early on in the implementation of vegetation so the pop in hadn't been adjusted yet and has been addressed a while ago. As for the 60 fps, that was due to a frame limit cap in that build to 60 which has since been removed. While it is true that there is a wait ahead, it is only for the betterment of the product that we release. We will just let the results speak for themselves when they are ready to show and revealed! Thanks for the non biased coverage and informing the public of what is going on.
@@DogCatLady2004 Ofcourse we will continue to show our progress. Although things were quiet at the end of the year, this year the game has made leaps of improvement that we're excited to show soon!
My gut tells me that Paramount will push to bring a case about this - if the (and they are amazing) 2005 models remain. It’s a shame, but swapping out ‘05 tripods for a new design with a terrifying sound I’m all for. Plus it might ignite new love for the franchise this way, I get it that’s it’s really hard to accept change, but it could be an amazing opportunity. I’d play it either way.
@@voidboi0 I mean honestly why throw it all away? Sure the 2005 film is fascinating but think of its limitations - we never see inside the craft, this could make for a terrifying game if the pods move more akin to spiders for example. I’m just thinking aloud, I’m no game designer I’m a theatre director, the point should be to share a sense of passion. These guys clearly love the project, this is your chance to make it something incredible. On a side note really enjoy your content, thank you for putting in the effort and sharing this!
@@LandAnchor regardless, they’ll be releasing the game. But I see what you’re saying, they could really put their own twist on things and expand more on it that just what the film shows. Thank you Nick! 🙏
@@LandAnchor Honestly, I'm quite the opposite on this. I 100% dig the idea of having a backup model, but the thing that powers this game's idea is really giving you that experience of the movie. Surviving while these behemoths with amazing visual and sound design scare you to death. If the game moves away more and more from that to a total different design for the aliens and how they feel, my interest in this game would be completely lost. Its been my dream to play something like this since I first watched the film when I was 9.
Honestly I feel the game he is trying to make is fantastic and made with true passion! I didn't doubt that the game would get delayed! I truly thought it would, because of how perfect they are making the game! The only thing I'm afraid of is them losing the passion or getting a copy write!
Honestly the biggest letdown would be the buildings not being destroyable. Even getting blown up to "polygon blocks" would still be preferable than having no destruction at all
That was my first thought when I can across these guys. It be nice it the tripods could step on buildings, knock parts of building and destroy buildings. I have my fingers crossed for them.
Much as I hate the possibility of the whole copyright issue.. I certainly hope we a get break and they allow it. The 2005 film deserves a lot more than just what it got, and there’s a fanbase that’s been desiring such a game for a long time.
My boi, you were the one who made me REALLY hyped for this game with that amazing documentary of yours. And now you're making sure that we keep a healthy dose of skepticism so that our expectations won't get crushed upon the game's release. 😎This cadet with a *misspelled name* salutes you!
Thank you Mav 🤝 That's why I took ownership for hyping people up. I'm not the street team and my main concern is my own viewers. I had to step back a take a clear look at things after some questionable decisions started taking place.
I'm not sure how i feel about the game at the moment. There are too many things that could go wrong at the moment, and it worries me, great video as always Void.
Proximity voice in multiplayer is definitely another must have for immersion - & asymmetric objectives. (Since its not strictly a survival game in the traditional sense, players could receive tasks and objectives which pit them against eachother or force them to work together) Thats how i would do it anyway
@@pilchard7199 How would this become a player-threat-only game? There's tripods and aliens roaming around. The threat of, or chance to work with, other players would add so much depth to this game.
PvP could never be the same as in other games, guns are loud. I would think if the Tripods can hear voice chat, they can hear gun shots from far away. Players could start with randomized pre-invasion professions and get objectives tied to that, or they can be world wide. Maybe reaching a evacuation point, grabbing or investigating something. (Things that encourage players to not simply run and hide in the map corner)
@@voidboi0 wow I didn’t think you’d respond to my comment lol, idk I haven’t even played the game yet so I don’t know what the difficulty will be like. But the difference between artificial Difficulty and player difficulty is pretty big, if a player just Merks you near a tripod and it tries to hunt for him, surely it’ll be easy to just escape while still killing someone? At least it’s not forced multiplayer cause I’m more of a casual
I was one of those people who got upset thinking all they've done in 2 months is make tripods prettier. But if it was for the sake of optimization then it's all good.
Would be interesting if one of the original designers of the tripods for the movie actually took their time and tested out the game anonymously. And is giving Raf support without him realizing it.
Seeing the results the team has made on the game, I’m not mad that they’re delaying because that means they’re improving upon the game and adding more details which will make the game even better
I've been following the game for a good while now. My hype has gone but my excitement is still there, if that makes any sense. I am just not expecting the thing any time soon. My main concern is just that the gameplay is actually enjoyable. Making the tripods super accurate to their movie counterparts is fantastic, but the game needs to be fun.
The thing with the copyright I agree with you on that. While it hasn't happened "yet" doesn't mean it won't. Paramount could be waiting until the public has access and is being sold to anyone. Yes his team has made the model's so its not a stolen model but the design is. And it's being "sold" per say without permissions. Anyone can make anything that is copyrighted as long as its private. It's the moment it goes to the public and anyone can access it is when the real trouble arises. If he is able to sell them as intended and nothing happens within a few months then I'd say your "safe". Also I agree I would love to at least see the backup models concept art. Just a sense that they truly do have a plan and aren't just ignorant to it, Anyone can say anything. It's giving weight behind the words that count.
It is worrying i really wish they didn't put all the focus on the new tripods also having the tripods being super polished later i feel would've been better, having a version they can ship no matter what even if its abit crap- then making the polished version a mod at the start to get around the whole issue. But yeah lots of other aspects could really use some work inside large buildings i'd hate to have it that we can run through a city but we can't get into any buildings and explore them, i feel like city buildings should be high risk high reward if you go super early get spawned close maybe you can score supplies quicker but the aliens flatten the city center first.. so if you delay too much you get taken down inside a building your exploring. And just me imagining what might happen is also a problem whatever we dream this project can be the more its delayed the more we think of the things we'd love to do in the game, some of these things can be left for an expansion, new map npc groups etc..
Hopefully we see more balance come to development and see better buildings with the new map. Few things make a game feel as empty to me as a bunch of buildings you can't explore. I'm just imagining how awesome it would be to climb a building to the same height as the tripod, and then it turns and looks and you and starts blasting the building.
Personally I feel he should take his time, I'll try the game no matter what. 05 tripods or not, I'll try it, and if it's good I'll keep playing it. If it's bad however I'll be a little sad but still probably play it as it's better then nothing
I plan on re-watching the movie with some friends when the game gets close to coming out. I also totally forgot that they wanted to release it this year. I have faith the game will be good for what its trying to accomplish
I think paramount getting involved and helping make this game a full on experience would do them wonders. This could easily get a graphics upgrade and a story. Basically free money for em. You could sell it as a triple a title.
@@voidboi0 I mean they're not bad at all... they're just not triple A professionally produced. For an indi title it's very impressive obviously, but having funding and professionals working on this would massively help.
Ok, so I haven't watched that many channels focused on WOTW, but from what I've seen so far, there's still so much to do. So many people are expecting the same impact as the paramount film, which, I think, puts alot of pressure on the developers. Personally, I think the mention of it on Steam, needs to be taken off. Like you say, it's likely the game won't be released until mid 2024, at the earliest. What kind of team set-up does Raf have? With all this stumbling around, it feels like Raf only has a small team to work everything out, meaning a lot is being overlooked. Surely he should have a team involved in gameplay, which come up with the storyline of a player. Ok so the film already has the storyline, but that should only be considered the summary. Each player will want to play their own part, not just be the audience, if that makes sense. Making this a survival game I think could work, but it would be down to that team to make it work. Another team could work on the models etc. I do think there should be a legal team, which can force Paramount to negotiate. Waiting for Paramount to react, I feel, is a big mistake, cos it could and probably will, go badly wrong and the plug is pulled. All I'm saying is "Many hands make light work". This is a monster of a game, with a myriad of obstacles ahead.
This is probably one of my favorite takes I've seen in the comments rn. You bring up a really good point that this game should now definitely not be listed on Steam for the time being -- It's throwing the pacing and expectations way off. He's definitely working with a skeleton crew and up until late last year, I'd say he was doing a majority on his own. I also agree with you, in that to truly unlock the potential of a game like this, there would be a story for the single player mode -- something akin to the beginning of Last of Us where you experience things going south. However, we know that Raf isn't doing a story and is primarily focusing on what I think will turn out to be more of a simulation, where the potential of multiplayer will shoulder a lot of the responsibility to keep people engaged. But that's also why I'm concerned about the lack of things to do or even seeing any MP working leading up to their revoked Q1 2023 release. I think your expectations are well grounded and you're looking at the possibilities, but also potential, pretty accurately. I agree that the concept has quickly outgrown the team, which is why I asked if he would expand his team in my last interview with him. But instead of giving a better reason why he's not, he referred to when he hired a studio for the start of his first game, EmergNYC, where it cost him $30k/month (though he raised $50k through crowd funding), commenting on how that wasn't feasible for him and made him less productive. Idk why that was the go to response, surely he's not paying him small team $30k/month (they are getting paid) but it seems he's trying to keep the team small and bring on volunteers where he can. Hopefully, it translates to the quality this game is hyping up to be.
Now most of the planet is passionate about computer games and therefore it would be foolish for paramount not to offer cooperation because they have original animations, this will make the game better and make a profit from this project because it's worth it
For me this projects is moving at lighting speed, it really is a matter of personal perspective. I was a project manager and a fast project was 6 to ten years, I built infrastructure for the Transportation Cabinet. So yeah............. I remember buying into Star Citizen when all you could do was walk around your hanger and look at your ship. It was at least a year or more before we could fly against the Vanduul in dog fights. I don't want to think about how much money I spent buying ships for a game that wasn't even a game yet. Turns out it was well worth the wait and War of the Worlds be as well.
Oh man Star Citizen... I think there's so much wasted potential. 1000 miles wide and an inch deep and terribly buggy. I'd agree that Raf has moved fast with his developments. I think it's time for him to start making deeper steps, rather than farther ones.
@@voidboi0 I think he has a decent shot at a late Q1 release for single player. I'd get the game out and see if Paramount lands on you before you invest resources in developing Multi-Player or a Sandbox. If they stay focused on single player for Q1 and look at other components for Q2 and Q3 I'd be happy with that for sure.
@@MrWilderNapalm ooh I actually really like this take. Super smart. Just get the Paramount stuff out of the way asap. Also satiates some very hungry fans for a little while. Though others seem to prefer to wait for a full release.
it's impossible, but it sure would be awesome if Paramount backed the project. Raf buying just the designer rights to the film would be better. In the case of Valve, who bought the half life mod and even helped turn it into a game... of course in the wow situation it's crazy for something like that to happen
I never actually got to see the announcement for the game to have public early access on Feb 11, 2023 (at least raf and community thought so) because I stop following the community cause I knew the take a very long time to finish but I'm kinda glad I didn't see the game get delayed cause I'll be kinda sad. Good vid btw. It weirdly entertained me, idk I think I'm just weirdo. Fun fact: ur the actual reason how I found out about this this game
The performance issues are a normal thing to occur to a game in a very early state of completion. AFAIK all the actual optimisation should take place when the game is actually close to being complete or at least when it's in good enough shape so I wouldn't be so concerned yet.
I'd also like to mention that Raf did not expect the absolute massive surge of attention (which he said so himself). It wasn't even supposed to be a full-out project but merely a free little indie game, without much consideration for quality. The game mechanics were much more primitive at the beginning and there was enough progress made at the point where the word about the game started spreading out. So it is very much fair to me that he actually decided to go ahead and rework the game into a much higher quality, more dynamic and immersive experience. Had he anticipated the attention the idea received it wouldn't be as messy as it is, imo.
I've seen this game grow from that smaller free project to something much bigger. Also, word about this game spread a long time ago. Raf's first videos have over 500k-1m views. It's not like this game just blew up between Nov 12th (Q1 2023 release announcement) and Dec 4th (bringing on Elde). Maybe when he first uploaded, he didn't expect all the attention. But I think it's been a long time since anyone could say that, it is an extremely iconic IP after all. I can't imagine anyone starting this project and not thinking it would blow up, especially since no one's done it (correctly at least). Optimizing performance is of course a part of the development process, if you're taking your work seriously at least. Raf raised the bar for this game substantially when decided it wouldn't be free anymore and started $100 closed testing. He said in my interview he wouldn't charge more than $35, but I've played more cohesive and quality indie games for less. The problem is, and he's admitted to it, they didn't take optimization into account (which is the main reason they remade the tripod to begin with) and even stated it was "definitely not game-ready," but they still announced the release window. Reworking the tripods and game wasn't just a good move, it was necessary. A release window just shouldn't have been announced. Excited to see what steps they take this year to continue improving the game.
The game will definitely come out 2024 or early access in late 2023. In terms of copy right, everything will come to its fate, whether it being the green light or it gets taken down. IMO I can see early access having the new tripods, map change, character customization, NPC changes and the original tripod design. But I could also see building destruction happening on full release.
I personally didn't think it looked anywhere near ready for a release, just that what they had in their gameplay overall looked great and that they got something solid. I think the idea of having mods as a backup to Paramount copyright claims is a good one too. Could just ship the game with an alternate model and they'd be free of fault. Only if it comes to it ofc. This whole thing is kind of a mess tbh.
It's definitely risky. And when they announced the early access, I didn't think there would be a whole lot to do in the game yet, but I don't think any one knew how much was wrong under the hood. In my latest video I show the new backups and where things are going with all that.
There is no way Paramount doesn't know about this game. The thing about copyright is that if you don't defend your copyright, you lose the copyright. If they pretend they haven't seen the game then that doesn't apply, they have to be aware of the copyright infraction. They can claim the email got lost in the corporate shuffle. If the game is released and doesn't do well and fly under the radar they can ignore it and not risk a PR backlash. If they acknowledge the game in any way then the jig is up and they have to either grant a license or file a copyright claim.
It's always interesting hearing different takes on this issue because there's another commenter who doesn't think Paramount knows about this game. But, you both seem to be on the same page as far as defending copyright, which I also agree. I think you hit the nail on the head with that last sentence there. Kinda really only goes one of two ways.
One thing I thought about is that as Much as I'd love to see my favorite youtuber or streamer play the game when it is released, the more I worry that If that does happen, the exposure from said streamer could potentially put the game and or Raf in danger(*1) because of the copyright issue. *I've won but at what cost* meme (*1 get more eyes on the game and potentially have paramount or said owners of copyrighted materials catch a wiff of what's going on)
But see that's the opposite of what Raf is thinking. He WANTS to get Paramount's attention so he can get their support. However they are going to respond is out of anyone's control. This game will absolutely get more attention when it drops, but it's already drawing tons of eyes.
@@voidboi0 Yeah I see that. I'm quite worried, hoping for the best. If Paramount doesn't end up giving him a License there should be another option that works out in favor of all parties involved like maybe they get a certain cut of the game's revenue or something along the lines of that because it's not like they are planning on releasing any wotw games and even if that ever happens it won't be as good as this *passionate* project once it is finished. I guess what i'm saying is that they (Paramount) should go with it because I feel like Raf and the team are gonna end up doing a better job then Paramount would. Praying that Raf get's a license anyway.
@@CalSniffsMilo in Raf’s hands, the game will likely more align with what fans want. But there would some positives in Paramount’s hands as well. Better performance and a bigger team able to work on more features and network security, not to mention all the funding and exposure. Could even come to consoles. But it could also end up with micro transactions. Who knows.
@@gj9157 No those models were terribly unoptimized. It's the whole reason they have the new models now. And I don't think those models were unique enough to avoid it either.
one of the main reasons i recently build myself a pc was to play this legendary game so take as much time as u need so that when it finally come out i will be your most loving customer xD
Dear Voidboi. (backup model idea) Thanks so much for making this video... This is my most lusted after game and I'd pay $100 just to own it... I was just about to purchase the closed tester patreon tier when I found this video... My backup model idea is the original pictures that came out with the original book... perhaps even use the original movie 'probe' as well as the original movie aliens ? (those were freakier if you ask me!) Thanks for reading :)
First off, really glad to hear I could help someone make their own informed decision by providing info I felt necessary to talk about. The Closed Alpha is much better suited to people who simple want to support or actually find bugs. However, be sure to check out my more recent videos covering the progress as they made backups after this video was posted. You can see here: th-cam.com/video/GbNx1QcgnrI/w-d-xo.html
As a fan of both of the movie, book and on stage show I’m looking forward to what they do. I wish they were a little more flexible with models as it may help them not get sued. combining from other war of the world versions might help them do that. I have my fingers crossed for them.
Actually if paramount does anything, might not be ideal for the creator of war of the worlds game but they could just take a little from them for each sale of the game and everything would be fine, dispite the exact copy of the tri pods I think paramount should just let this one go, I mean come on ITS WAR OF THE WORLDS THE GAME LITERALLY. Also I hope he takes his sweat as time creating this game because I want it to be PERFECT: I love war of the worlds ngl. I really want the 05 models
HEY I JUST FOUND A WAR OF THE WORLDW GAME ON ROBLOX. IT HAS NO SOUND AND SOME GLITCHES BUT ITS ACTUALLY FUN AND A LITTLE SCARY TO PLAY. Same tripods as a the movie and everything tbh
@@voidboi0 maybe you can do a video of it. Even though there is no sound but it is really fun to play. I’ve been playing for hours not getting bored. have fun!
The Movie came out in 2005. I think we can wait a little longer right? They can take all the time they need to do it right. Personally I’m just happy this is a thing that is happening at all.
Paramount can TRY to bring a copyright claim to court, but it would be difficult to PROVE. The general design of the Tripod can’t really be copyrighted because the overall design is public domain.
They don't have to "prove" anything they already snitched on themselves They literally have pictures of tripods from the movie beside their tripod design in the dev showcase you're a fool if you think this isn't an easy win for them
I simply don’t understand why they didn’t sort out copyright issues, and come to an agreement with Paramount early on. It’s blindingly obvious there would be copyright issues (tripods and sound design etc).
If Paramount Sue's him then they are some real douchbags, literally it has been something we've all wanted for a long fkin time that now that we have the opportunity to make it real. Hopefully everything goes 💯. I've been up to date always. Love the content from both u guys
Douchbags? It's their models, they'd have full right to lol. Big companies don't care about the little guy. They like dollar signs. It would be no different if they put Ray in the game and Tom Cruise sued them for making money off his likeness without permission. Would it suck? Totally. But this is the gamble. I hope it all works out too. Thanks for the support Nayib!
I’m already 6 minutes in and I just have this to say. I so extremely hope Paramount licenses this game because think about it for a bit. I mean maybe this is extreme wishful thinking on my thoughts but, remember how the earlier videos had the accurate movie sound effects? You know the walking, the horn, the lasers/heat rays right? If this game got licensed by Paramount in some way we can actually have the movie sound effects. Wouldn’t that be so cool? But then again, that’s just extreme wishful thinking lol. But please Paramount license this amazing game.
@@voidboi0 I know right? It’ll be so cool. I mean granted that u make a follow up video about the comments u get, it would be a good point to bring up cause the videos from when the game was literally just being thought up n earlier development videos, all the audio was from the movie. But yes, a license from Paramount would definitely open those doors for the audio. But the audio in recent past videos are pretty cool. Especially the Uber Pod (don’t remember if it had a sounding horn in the movie) but the deep blaring of the horn would really make anyone jump lol.
Haha. You made it, Matt! I like involving what the community thinks. I tried censoring this time as maybe some people don’t want the attention. But if people would rather see their handles I’ll just post them next time.
From our perspective, yeah that's what we would do. But in my Jurassic Park video, we saw reasons for why a company like this would decline. Interesting dilemma.
The 2005 Tripod design is indeed BY FAR my favorite…no the movie itself wasn’t too great, but the TRIPODS are another story. The look, the weapon, the SOUND THEY MAKE IN PARTICULAR, it was and still is just a HOMERUN for me.
Sound design was great. Especially the locomotive style motion sounds. Visually they were pretty good too but the heat ray totally missed a critical aspect of the book as it wasn’t invisible.
If i have to Wait an other F***ing year for early access!!, I Will go Crazy. Like i get the truble but saying that early access Will release "early Next year" without cheking for any big missing parts Is Just irresponsible!!!! Like WTF!!!
Funniest thing that could happen is Paramount taking lead over the project like "We won't gonna do anything about it, but we own the project right now".
I’ve seen people mode it. Would be neat to see someone go completely of that or the books. Do a time period. Would probably turn out something like Fallout.
I think game development is terrible now. Not because of the developers really, but because of our world's current economy and whatnot. You have Microsoft's biggest game series Halo, struggling to keep itself afloat. And then at the bottom, you have Indie Games struggling as well. I think the entire gaming industry is in bad shape right now.
Ok first off, 343 is just terrible and have completely fumbled Halo. Secondly, it's not like these studios (or even Raf) don't have the money/support to make great games. Raf is definitely not struggling. But this industry is in bad shape only because of declining ethics. It really comes down to laziness and greed. Great games still do very well.
tbh raf needs to learn how rust worked. They started out as a Graphcis ps1 game and kept improving over time until it looked and played the way it is today. He has to worry about the mechanics of the game and then the aesthetics. he goes the way upside down
I absolutely love war of the worlds movie. And I was very excited for the game to come out as well.. But I understand that good things take time. I really love your work guys.. Keep it up! Hoping for the game to come out ASAP. thanks ❤😁
You're probably right or dead right. Paramount probably already has people looking at The War of the Worlds Channel or Paramount when so far probably on the Discord Channel having people who are people talking about what developers talking about how will the game look like. (By the way this is just coming for me I'm someone who thinks too far)
We find this info from the actual lore and source material from the 05 film (which the devs are drawing from). In my documentary on the game, I reference where the canonical Uberpod name comes from: th-cam.com/video/IXLORHZDZYc/w-d-xo.html
Well, only game exist but flash and mobile game in 2005. But I'm curious about this war of the worlds the game, it's like refreshing now and marked as survival horror game. But, really?? It's still copyright from paramount?
You know it is bad when he runs 55-60 fps when the store page says RECOMMENDED: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system OS: Windows 10 Processor: Intel Core i5 or Equivalent Memory: 16 GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 or Equivalent DirectX: Version 10 Storage: 42 GB available space Additional Notes: SSD highly recommended to improve load times.
This is just an accident waiting to happen. Copying someone's intellectual property is simply not allowed. His attitude is pretty flippant when it comes to legal issues and I think he's just going to get burnt in the long run.
It's not that people are tired of waiting, but that WOTW promised an early 2023 release. People were hyped for it. Every reason to be upset. We've adjusted and know now that release for the game will more likely be late 2023-24, but we'll see if that still holds true then. Waiting for Star Citizen that long is on you my guy. It is such a terrible example and should never be the bar. I played it, it was amazing to experience, but I quickly moved on once I realized it's not going nowhere. I'm looking to Starfield. I want indie games/developers to be better than the practices we hate about bigger, greedy studios.
Yes, they could shut down things that were copied from the movie that are duplicated....but..they can't shut down the game. It's Public Access at this point as far as "war of the worlds" goes. They cannot claim that BS as that was lost long ago to the public...they may have to retool the look of the machines...but no...they cannot claim copyright on a 1898 story. No way...no way! Retooling the walkers isn't the end of the world.....
Paramount will stop the game before it releases, not because they want to financially gain from the game creator, but because in not doing so, they would miss out on potential financial gain should they ever decide to make a game. Even if they never do.
Also, it's not that Paramount are leaving this game alone, they just don't know about it yet. If this were a Nintendo or a Disney, the game would already be shut down. But Paramount is run by a bunch of old out-of-touch executives that keep making mistakes with their most valuable properties. Just look at their recent failures to monetize properties like Star Trek or Terminator or anything under the Nickelodeon umbrella. And I'm talking about movies and TV there... I don't even think they MAKE games. I'm saying the devs should have a big Plan B in place in case Paramount wakes up (like a subterranean tripod) and suddenly starts paying attention. Intellectual rights are worthless when they're not enforced.
Haha. Cough cough--Halo--cough cough. Yeah you're not wrong there. Yeah legally it would make sense for them to step in once they hear about it or see it becoming real.
i think theres something with the copyright law that it can downgrade and some objects might loose copyright restrictions because i kinda experienced of a video i deleted (i dont risk) that had a lot of copyrighted content but no one was after me soo theres also a chance that paramount will just stop giving a crap
The new one, The Attack? Considering that this game is based on the 05 film, I wouldn't say it supports the latest film or the people behind it directly. We saw how Paramount butchered Halo for the sake of the direction they wanted to take the franchise. With that in mind, they may not want any competing ideas. When these teams of people pick up old IPs, they really want to put their own mark on it and it usually comes out in destructive ways.
Unreals environmental lighting is just much better looking. this would probably be even more obvious in the probe experience. metallics and refraction are just so much better. This would look amazing in Unreal 5. LOD is also something unreal handles really well. My opinion, a big crutch with the gaming community, is they seem to almost value when they can play something over how good it will play, this is a problem, i dont think the unreal switch is a bad idea, id rather accept a delay for something that plays and looks better. As for some of the mistakes with performance and announcements and delays, this is just growing pains really on making a game with a super small team and it not being something you do professionally. just the way it is...these are some things you might have a hard time forgiving a professional game studio for.....but in this case, my opinion is to be more aware of what this is, provide feedback and temper expectations. This is not me saying its not okay to be upset, its a perfectly acceptable response, and its a response that will be a learning experience for the team, but there should be some empathy combined with it.
Agreed, you can't expect the same level of progress from indie teams, but that is also why I tell people to be cautious. Indie projects can go awry or get snuffed out for a number of reasons (and actually same with AAA these days). The biggest problem here was the unfulfilled early access release, along with the other issues I listed. Indie should only mean smaller, not irresponsible. A learning experience for sure, things have seemed to take a turn for the better. Thanks for the comment, Justin!
@@voidboi0 I would say of all the mistakes, missing a release deadline is the least "irresponsible" game companies miss target goals and deadlines all the time, from the very small to the very large, hell all companies do, sometimes you just have a misguided internal perspective of what you can get done in a certain amount of time because theres a lot of factors you can not predict that could cause delays or more to something than you expected, adjusting for this and understanding to compensate for it comes with experience...hence why big developers seem to make this mistake a little less than indie ones...but all of them, still make this mistake. Again though, being aggravated about it, and voicing those opinions, is an ok response, because this motivates improvement.
@@JustinKrux Just making sure it's clear that the irresponsibility I'm speaking to came from a culmination of all the issues I listed on top of the unfulfilled release date. No backups, marketing big pieces of a game people might not end up with, big last minute changes, poor communication about such changes, etc. Like I said, things are getting better, been supporting for a long time.
The footage I've seen so far is pretty uneven... The sounds, the tripods, the scenery, etc. are mostly excellent... The humans in the game are pretty terrible though. The dialogue and voice acting needs a lot of improvement, and the human modelling re: looks, posture, movement, etc. look like PS1/PS2 level...
If they push the game towards extinction release the source code and continue underground. Leak the code and development. If for nothing else but spite.
They'd much sooner shut it down than spend money on it imo. It's their IP in the end. They could just start up a studio tomorrow and start cranking out a game just like this with a much better budget and a much, much bigger following. In the big picture, this is still a drop in the bucket and they may not even know about it still. The amount it would cost them to make their own game likely wouldn't be very much from their perspective either. Whether or not they license, adopt and shut down this project will be based on principle and whether or not they want this game to exist at all.
Just a reminder, were talking about a company that spent $10million per episode on Halo (which turned out crap). I don’t think they’re afraid of burning cash or have any shortage of it to burn.
I mean he probably could, if he had the money. It’s probably not even worth it considering how expensive that could be. I don’t think Paramount would part with it for very cheap.
@@voidboi0 i do kinda agree like who knows how much it would cost to buy the tripod model from Paramount and there might be a change they would part with it but that might be very unlikely also love the content.🙂👍
to be honest we're looking at a good few years of development (Ref has even extended his study) and further unforeseen delays from a small developer and an even smaller team if he even has a team and isn't doing this basically solo. we might seen steam early access in a year or so but a full release? not before 2025. if I'm proven wrong and it comes Sonner n works out then that's great obviously, but from my experience following games and even bigger more organised and better funded dev teams n projects, very few game's come out on time and certainly not always in a coherent working form cyberpunk being an example. cos if a huge AAA Games company can get thing's wrong and experience huge delays even with all their funding and personnel what chance has a single guy or a handful of folk got with next to no resources and that's within reasonable expectation? not much. it's always better to under promise and over deliver, than over promise and under deliver.
Right there with you. And I believe the "full release" will remain a fluid idea until then as well. We don't know what his ultimate end goal for the game is and how in-depth he's planning to make it. Full release could mean a tripod invasion sim with no bugs, or an more expanded survival horror game with awesome multiplayer elements. However, I will note that Gavin from Choo-Choo Charles pulled off his game in one year using Unreal blueprints and it turned out great. I think it comes down to knowing you skillset, the scope of the game and managing things right. But you are 100% on the money, over promising is a fast way to instill distrust and disappointment in your followers.

There are some good and bad things in this video. WOTW was silent for 2 months. And Paramount has the ability still to remove the tripod models from the game. But I covered the copyright issues and other things.
I realized I said “launch” a few times but to be clear I’m referring to the Q1 early access.

With no back ups Is like calling for truble
Does that mean you're gonna make a new video? If so when will that be?
@@DogCatLady2004 Ofcourse we will continue to show our progress. Although things were quiet at the end of the year, this year the game has made leaps of improvement that we're excited to show soon!

Looking forward to where you guys take the game this year 👍👍
Take as much time as you want, you all put so much effort on this project and I'm impress and never, never back down 👍👍👍.
This is a great perspective.
@@LandAnchorNo, no, no, no, not spiders I beg of you.
Honestly I feel the game he is trying to make is fantastic and made with true passion! I didn't doubt that the game would get delayed! I truly thought it would, because of how perfect they are making the game! The only thing I'm afraid of is them losing the passion or getting a copy write!
They're definitely putting passion in.
Honestly the biggest letdown would be the buildings not being destroyable. Even getting blown up to "polygon blocks" would still be preferable than having no destruction at all
Yeah would really like to see them crumble or partially break apart as opposed to just exploding.
That was my first thought when I can across these guys. It be nice it the tripods could step on buildings, knock parts of building and destroy buildings. I have my fingers crossed for them.
or the heat rays destroying the buildings like the film
I agree 100%
Much as I hate the possibility of the whole copyright issue.. I certainly hope we a get break and they allow it. The 2005 film deserves a lot more than just what it got, and there’s a fanbase that’s been desiring such a game for a long time.
Agreed. It’s an extremely slept on IP.
Yeah I think we just gotta wait this one out. Ambiguity feels like an appropriate response with so much still up in the air. Thanks, Grub!!
@@voidboi0 I think it’s a good idea for them to just take their time and get their heads in gear. Delays happen all the time.
Proximity voice in multiplayer is definitely another must have for immersion - & asymmetric objectives. (Since its not strictly a survival game in the traditional sense, players could receive tasks and objectives which pit them against eachother or force them to work together)
Thats how i would do it anyway
I hope they don’t, idk about turning this into a player threat only game, the tripods need to be the main threat
This is some of the potential I'm thinking of. Imagine Rust or DayZ inspirations.
Was definitely my reaction. But yeah they pretty much had no other choice.
as a close tester myself the main issue for me was just the preformance. If they optimized it a bit i feel like the game would run smoothly
Would be interesting if one of the original designers of the tripods for the movie actually took their time and tested out the game anonymously. And is giving Raf support without him realizing it.
Ha! That would be wild. If that were the case though I think they'd have a license already.
@@voidboi0 lol true.
Seeing the results the team has made on the game, I’m not mad that they’re delaying because that means they’re improving upon the game and adding more details which will make the game even better

i definitely agree gameplay should be #1 priority in any game
My man 🤝
I've been following the game for a good while now. My hype has gone but my excitement is still there, if that makes any sense. I am just not expecting the thing any time soon. My main concern is just that the gameplay is actually enjoyable. Making the tripods super accurate to their movie counterparts is fantastic, but the game needs to be fun.
This is a great take. It’s pretty much where I’m at too, Passion. Gameplay loop is key.
This exactly! You're def paying attention Eaglejoc 🤝 That's why I asked. They said the would have backups, but they actually didn't (at the time).
@@voidboi0 Haha yeah, Hopefully we can see an original design, even if its a "dlc" type. As you said I'm sure they can make something amazing.
True. But let's push for the best 👍
I plan on re-watching the movie with some friends when the game gets close to coming out.
I also totally forgot that they wanted to release it this year. I have faith the game will be good for what its trying to accomplish
That could be while. And let's hope so!
@@voidboi0 yea no doubt
I think paramount getting involved and helping make this game a full on experience would do them wonders. This could easily get a graphics upgrade and a story. Basically free money for em. You could sell it as a triple a title.
Check out my latest video to see the graphics boost they just gave it. But I still agree. Having more to the game like a full story would be amazing.
Now most of the planet is passionate about computer games and therefore it would be foolish for paramount not to offer cooperation because they have original animations, this will make the game better and make a profit from this project because it's worth it
As long as the profit they think they can make from this is worth the paperwork, then yeah.
We'll see. But agreed, unlikely.
That’s awesome to hear!
I’m glad Voidboi saw my message, so people would understand the situation on Rafs game. Thanks Void! 🤙
Game Developers try not to get sued challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
Copyright speedrun! We'll see haha.
I think this is a pretty good estimate for what to expect.
Who knows.

I’m supposed to be a fire fighter this December 😮
Thank you for your (future) work!
Hope it works out
Blink in the next video if you are being held hostage!
😐😑😐😑😐
HEY I JUST FOUND A WAR OF THE WORLDW GAME ON ROBLOX. IT HAS NO SOUND AND SOME GLITCHES BUT ITS ACTUALLY FUN AND A LITTLE SCARY TO PLAY. Same tripods as a the movie and everything tbh
Nice
@@voidboi0 maybe you can do a video of it. Even though there is no sound but it is really fun to play. I’ve been playing for hours not getting bored. have fun!
I’d rather have them delay the game and release it completed high quality and with good performance
Totally agree.
If the game fails I'd cry
We'll see
Getting the license would be awesome
It would be!
The Movie came out in 2005. I think we can wait a little longer right? They can take all the time they need to do it right. Personally I’m just happy this is a thing that is happening at all.
Me too. Fine waiting, the problem was the promise of early access.
Paramount can TRY to bring a copyright claim to court, but it would be difficult to PROVE. The general design of the Tripod can’t really be copyrighted because the overall design is public domain.
Ehh I don’t think you’re correct here. The concept is public, not the designs.
They don't have to "prove" anything they already snitched on themselves They literally have pictures of tripods from the movie beside their tripod design in the dev showcase you're a fool if you think this isn't an easy win for them
Great video per usual void thanks for keeping us in the loop!
Plutooo! I got you 😎 thank you
I simply don’t understand why they didn’t sort out copyright issues, and come to an agreement with Paramount early on. It’s blindingly obvious there would be copyright issues (tripods and sound design etc).
I covered that pretty clearly in the video.
DONT GIVE UP THIS GAME IS SO GOOD
I don't think Raf will give up easily 👍
The license would change so much. Could open up those possibilities.
@@voidboi0
I know right? It’ll be so cool. I mean granted that u make a follow up video about the comments u get, it would be a good point to bring up cause the videos from when the game was literally just being thought up n earlier development videos, all the audio was from the movie. But yes, a license from Paramount would definitely open those doors for the audio. But the audio in recent past videos are pretty cool. Especially the Uber Pod (don’t remember if it had a sounding horn in the movie) but the deep blaring of the horn would really make anyone jump lol.
Yoooo lets go I'm in a voidboy video! although blurred out
Haha. You made it, Matt! I like involving what the community thinks. I tried censoring this time as maybe some people don’t want the attention. But if people would rather see their handles I’ll just post them next time.
If I was Paramount, I would support this game 100%. Would just boost sales of the movie, and other merchandise.
It is truly iconic. But I've never heard of something loving the pods but not the movie.
;-;
Like WTF!!!
Like wow, Just wow
I kinda feels lied to with the "early" part like Just Say this year
Haha. Better have some other games in your library. Agreed, it's not a good look.
Yeah right, btw what did that morse ..._ _ _.. mean
@@riccardoaltieri4054 Oh I was blinking out ..._ _ _... (which is morse for SOS - Shave Our Ship - a common distress signal) before I cut it short.
Been following this for a while, would love to score it... but until I see a public demo, I'm on the fence.
Right there with you. Always better to wait.
Not sure if Raf's doing this but it would be nice if you can create your own servers in multiplayer.
I think that's how his other game EmergeNYC works.
Funniest thing that could happen is Paramount taking lead over the project like "We won't gonna do anything about it, but we own the project right now".
That would probably freeze production
I wonder what the game would look like with the Jeff Wayne Tri-pods. Im not saying he should use it but I wonder how it would look?
Great video very unbiased
Thank you, Chris! Want to make sure my beginnings start on the right foot.
I Hope ho gets founded, there Is so Much potencial
Agreed!
tbh raf needs to learn how rust worked. They started out as a Graphcis ps1 game and kept improving over time until it looked and played the way it is today. He has to worry about the mechanics of the game and then the aesthetics. he goes the way upside down
Yes. If a game is fun, people will play it no matter how it looks, which as you've said, can always be improved later.
I absolutely love war of the worlds movie. And I was very excited for the game to come out as well.. But I understand that good things take time. I really love your work guys.. Keep it up! Hoping for the game to come out ASAP. thanks ❤😁
Thanks for the support Sunny!
@@voidboi0 🥰
2:28 aye I recognize my comment I made about "hell, I'm worried about paramount" etc..
Yeah that's you 👍
You're probably right or dead right. Paramount probably already has people looking at The War of the Worlds Channel or Paramount when so far probably on the Discord Channel having people who are people talking about what developers talking about how will the game look like.
(By the way this is just coming for me I'm someone who thinks too far)
Time will certainly tell.
you even added the alien writing on the hood of the tripod.. no comment, just wow
I'm not the dev but yeah they did an amazing job.
also i was really curious, where did you get your info from that the tripods are called warriors, harvesters (well that's obvious) and uberpods?
We find this info from the actual lore and source material from the 05 film (which the devs are drawing from). In my documentary on the game, I reference where the canonical Uberpod name comes from: th-cam.com/video/IXLORHZDZYc/w-d-xo.html
Well, only game exist but flash and mobile game in 2005. But I'm curious about this war of the worlds the game, it's like refreshing now and marked as survival horror game.
But, really?? It's still copyright from paramount?
Yeah copyrights last nearly 100 years. Just the designs though.
You know it is bad when he runs 55-60 fps when the store page says RECOMMENDED:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel Core i5 or Equivalent
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 or Equivalent
DirectX: Version 10
Storage: 42 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD highly recommended to improve load times.
Be sure to check out more recent videos: th-cam.com/video/GbNx1QcgnrI/w-d-xo.html Raf has been pretty responsive to feedback.
This is just an accident waiting to happen. Copying someone's intellectual property is simply not allowed. His attitude is pretty flippant when it comes to legal issues and I think he's just going to get burnt in the long run.
It’s not like Raf hasn’t tried, but yeah I had to make this video for the problems I was seeing. We won’t truly know till release potentially.
To the people dissapointed with the wait time, Ive waited for Star Citizen for 10 years. I don't think you will need to wait that long for WOTW.
Yeah I covered that. And the backups look great.
I think it should be good because copyright only kicks in if he made money off it or he claimed it was his right?
He’s planning to sell the game (for no more than $35). But infringement can still occur from reproduction, distribution or use of the protected work.
@@voidboi0 Yeah it's definitely getting struck down
Paramount will stop the game before it releases, not because they want to financially gain from the game creator, but because in not doing so, they would miss out on potential financial gain should they ever decide to make a game.
We'll just have to see
It would be foolish if Paramount went after the game. It compliments the movie.
@@voidboi0ah i understand, yeah i thought you meant just that specifically. but what your saying is completely understandable.
im going to be an elderly man by the time this game releases
Ha. Let's hope not.
well if youre about 58 now then you may count as elderly when it releases
Raaaaaaaaaf
Benjiaminnnnnn
The footage I've seen so far is pretty uneven... The sounds, the tripods, the scenery, etc. are mostly excellent... The humans in the game are pretty terrible though. The dialogue and voice acting needs a lot of improvement, and the human modelling re: looks, posture, movement, etc. look like PS1/PS2 level...
Yeah it’s become quite mixed. For a solo dev, it’s pretty good. As long as the gameplay is solid, I’ll be happy.
Hi @voidboi and @war of the worlds game
yo yo Hayden!
Will we get to see the tripods from that one scene that look like the Uber pods but are a bit flatter on top and have yellow lights?
Probably not.
If they push the game towards extinction release the source code and continue underground. Leak the code and development. If for nothing else but spite.
They don’t own the concept just the designs. But I doubt Raf would do that anyway.
It will exist one way or another
Paramount wants to see this finished to determine the price they pay. They'd be fools not to buy it out.
Think of all the development money Paramount saved by waiting to see what they're paying for. Plus, it already gas a following.
@voidboi0 The risk and development costs are mitigated. They can only profit.
Just a reminder, were talking about a company that spent $10million per episode on Halo (which turned out crap). I don’t think they’re afraid of burning cash or have any shortage of it to burn.
@@voidboi0 It's an easy sell for a good agent.
cant raf buy the model so the game cant get taken down? that would be a good idea to not get sued or copyrighted
799 likes? time to round it up
Haha. Thanks for topping that off.

I’m not sure what you meant by deleting the silence cause I’m worried if it might be a good thing or a bad thing
