Proof if we needed any, that a new version does not have to be inferior and forgotten. Loved Anthony Hopkins/Emma Thompson, but this version was so much more affecting somehow. Matthew & Hayley were fantastic together. You really feel their yearning. Even writing this, it's still memorable. Just like in Brideshead Revisited or Little Women adaptations in movie or tv versions, we all have our favourite characters in each. It's a must watch if you like period movies.
I've yet to watch Howards End, but I'm quite excited! It's been a while since I watched a good period drama. The cast is refreshing, too. Hayley, Matthew, Pippa & Alex are very good actors
Some pieces are so perfectly rendered the first time that any attempts at recreation feel like an assault. Merchant Ivory's Howards End is one of those pieces.
