Tom and Greg are basically succession's power couple also I'll never get over the fact that they talk about their characters in first person.

Tom actually has more chemistry with Greg than with his own wife.
They're the two outsiders who kind of tangentially are part of the family.
@@ClueSign What I find disturbing and even painful is how Tom keeps trying to connect with Shiv and how she always pushes him away, like it's almost sadistic. I wonder if the interaction would be any different if Tom beolonged to the same circle.
@@cbojorquez It is disturbing how she is so aggressively cruel and dismissive of him; so willing to sacrifice him to the political machinations of her father, and even willing to exploit his love by declaring she wants an open marriage, but only AFTER they wed. Not nice.
@@ClueSign cruel, yes, but not that surprising given her upbringing. ): Succession is such a tragedy. No matter how dickish they are, I feel really bad for the Roy children. They were raised in a veritable minefield, formative years ripe with emotional abuse from their domineering father and otherwise antipathetic mother. Love was seen as a weakness, vulnerability, something to exploit; likewise, relationships were transactional, just another facet of business where there’s a winner and loser. As a result, Shiv can’t bring herself to open up to Tom. That would mean going against the (sad, messed up) values instilled in her practically from birth. I believe that Shiv loves Tom (Sarah Snook and MattMac have said as much), but she has such poor interpersonal effectiveness skills that it comes across as a cruel kind of half-love. As sad as it is, it’s really entertaining to watch. And it also highlights the disparity between Tom’s relationship with Shiv, who pushes him away, and Greg, who validates and strokes Tom’s ego. No wonder he loses his cool every time Greg stands his ground. That’s his emotional support egg.

Mr Darcy? Watch him in Little Dorrit, a BBC series, and you'll be blown away. Mr Darcy is nothing like that.
Listening to Matthew is like a cup of hot chocolate in winter
Both actors are gifted with such awesome roles. Their dynamic doesn't feel unfamiliar, but I can't think of another show that's portrayed a relationship like this. They also help function more as audience surrogates, even central protagonists, since they're witnessing all the insanity from an outsider perspective.
The only thing that comes remotely close is Louis and Harold from Suits
kind of reminded me of the office's brian and the boss guy (don't remember his name) in comedic sense
They are very much simon and toby from in the loop which shares a scenarist with succession
My favourite insult was Tom telling Greg he could be the weirdest king in Europe
These guys always crack me up when they're on screen together. They're a classic comedy odd couple.
Greg is Toms work wife. The Dynamic is brilliant. Batman and Robin. Terrible people but they are less terrible than the Roy's. Tom made it clear that he cares for Greg, every Tom needs a Sporus.

Nicholas Braun has very "kind" facial features...despite being 2m tall he radiates a very approachable and non-intimidating vibe...cool guy!

What I love about most about Tom isn’t Tom. It’s Matthew. I JUST LOVE HIS VOICE IDK WHY!! Tom is among the best characters in Succession as well but man, I wouldn’t like him as much if he was played by someone else. Matthew nailed this role!
MM is such a brilliant actor and on top he's got an extraordinary voice and good looks.

This show gives me strong “The Office” (or arrested development) vibes, mainly because of the camera pans, but I thought their relationship was like Angela and Phyllis, where they’re competing over the better Christmas party lol.

Ignoring regional accents, this does highlight to me that Macfadyen, unlike most of the main cast, doesn't sound/feel like his character naturally and has to do some 'real' acting to get there. Braun here comes across not too different from Greg. That's not a knock on the other actors; they just happened to be cast to their natural qualities.

Anyone else find Tom a scary sort of personality? I mean, his first meeting with Greg in the first episode, out on the baseball pitch, where he confesses that he's actually a nasty person... it's continually amped up. Tom is scary.

I did not know Matthew Macfadyen had a British accent until now. it makes his American accent as Tom really funny. spot-on but comedic in how good it is. kind of like Jim Jefferies doing his American accent.

I just finished and this is my favorite couple, but Greg was a pure delight to watch.
I really feel so much more could have been done with his character instead of him essentially becoming Tom's bitch. Greg was truly clever (using Google to translate Swedish, etc.) and his character could have become so much more ruthless.
Still was amazing to watch these two. Just a gift.
