We actually drive our sheep right through the middle of our little town 4 times a year to get to our other farm. Up to 7 Merama running through town but we have never had a dog fight fortunately but our dogs seem to know they aren't on their territory. They've killed their fare share of cats though and riled up a few neighbors by running through their yards but most folks love to watch 600 sheep and their lambs run past their windows, it's been that way since my great grandfather, so part of the town's tradition.

Will the guardian dogs mess with your pet dogs if you bring them around? Do you have to make sure to keep them away from one one another or introduce them to your pets so they don't see them as a threat to the flock? Greg, question. Can you elaborate on the benefits between the parasite resistance of running sheep and cattle together? We have been keeping ours separate due to we were told that the sheep would pickup parasites from cattle.
Sheep and cattle complement each other perfectly. Cattle parasites can be ingested by sheep and the parasite cannot complete its life cycle. Same thing happens when cows ingest sheep parasites. The two species act as vacuum cleaners for each others parasites. It’s a win-win.

Hey Greg, I'm a big fan from Tasmania (Australia) and I love this concept. I currently have a small flock of 15 sheep (14 ewes + 1 ram) and I'm planning to increase to around 50 ewes and 2 rams when I can organize some leased grazing. I would like to separate out my rams after tupping time and the last season's lambs. If I had a small number of cows I could run these together with the rams and older lambs and it would be from this 'flerd' that I would either sell from or select my replacement ewes from. So I would run a flerd with the flock following along a reasonable distance behind as per the season and the recovery. Any thoughts or problems you could see with this would be much appreciated.

I think they will eat your trees
They will eat every pine needle they can reach. If you protect the trees it would be ok.

We use a cafeteria style 16 hole mineral feeder. We use Free Choice Enterprises for our mineral.

Mixed flerd is the best you can do.

Bulls are out of cow herd from March till July 1st.
