  • I'm installing some storage solutions on the Rebel 1100 today! Note that this is a shortened version of a previous video ( • REBEL1100: Viking Bags... ). Viking Bags reached out to me recently and said they liked the original video, despite the problems that I had with the bag. So, I shortened it to make it more to-the-point! 😉👍 Skip to the end of the description for clickable time indexes.
The ‪@VikingBagsYT‬ Plain Swingarm Bag for the Rebel seems to be constructed very well and it looks good on the Rebel 1100. However, the fitment leaves a LOT to be desired. So, let's address those problems first!
The strap and buckle arrangement that is shipped with the bag just doesn't work. The buckles are HUGE and they intrude into the bag's very limited space to render it nearly useless. The mounting slots that are cut into the plastic backer are in the wrong positions and are oriented in the wrong directions for the Rebel 1100's frame rails. I rode around with the bag installed for about 2 weeks and then removed it out of annoyance... temporarily.
Fortunately, the fix for the strap & buckle disaster is simple and only takes about 10 minutes! You will need to drill 3 small holes in the plastic backing for some heavy-duty zip-ties (I used 75lb / 34kg outdoor-rated ties for my solution). The holes for the front mount should be drilled as close to the front of the bag as possible to prevent it from flapping around. The nylon ties secure the bag to the frame securely, and you reclaim all of the lost space from those original straps & buckles!
I also recommend sealing up the original holes/slots in the plastic backing with Gorilla Tape to add a bit of extra waterproofing for the back of the bag. I used small swatches of tape on both the interior and exterior of the bag for extra security. This bag is NOT waterproof by design, so heavy rain or downpours will cause some water to intrude past the storm flap. So, it's a good idea to carry gallon-size Zip-loc freezer bags to waterproof anything delicate (e.g., cell phone, wallet, paperwork, etc).
IMPORTANT NOTE about fitment on the Rebel 1100: this bag only fits if you don't have the passenger footpeg and bracket installed on the left side of the motorcycle. I ended up removing this bag after I installed the passenger seat kit and my saddlebag mounts. If you don't intend to install the passenger seat and footpegs, then this is a great low-profile storage solution.
    Time indexes:
0:00 Unboxing the Viking Bags Swingarm bag
1:25 No instructions included, straps aren't matching up with the frame rails
3:25 Modifying the bag to fit better on the Rebel 1100's frame
5:30 Interior measurements of the swingarm bag
7:14 Figuring out correct bag placement and drilling the new holes
9:46 Mounting the bag on the Rebel's frame rails with zip ties
11:32 Final mounting position is very secure and makes the best of limited space
12:39 Finished appearance and placement of the bag, final thoughts and verdict

Zipties are a godsent for everything lol. If it doesn't fit,use a ziptie. If it wobbles, use a ziptie.

Very nice solution, Quasi! Great alternative! And I love zip ties!

Nice install you wrangled. Looks like probably fit a couple of sandwiches in there. Of course they are Texas size sandwiches. Maybe even a beer, sandwiches and a pistol or wallet. I am not intimately familiar enough with the Rebel 1100 to know if a tool type cylindrical leather bag could fit under the front head light, for a little extra storage of light items. If Viking made a left and a right hand side of those type bags it might be kind of cool to make some leather straps and have it as a Mini tank saddle bag set up. Perhaps it is not such a great idea. Lol Good stuff. Thank you for the content.

It's made for Harleys not Rebel 300 or 500. I'll wait for something designed specifically to fit the Rebel. More than likely Viking will not make it because they seem dedicated to Harley accessories. You made it look good though. I wish it was just a little smaller so not to hit the leg. In my state you can legally carry a firearm on a bike as long as it is in a case permanently attached to the bike. This would be perfect if only it fit a little better. You need a CW permit to carry in a backpack.

Viking Bags originally listed that bag as a specific fitment for the Rebel 300/500/1100, but they have since removed it from their catalog. I don't know if they replaced it with a newer/different model, or just stopped offering a fitment for the Rebels. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I don't understand why you just don't use a tailbag on your rear rack. Isn't that what a rear rack is for. Anyway good video for people without a rear rack. I'm Trying to Be Nice but you could have a LARGE Sale on all the accessories you bought for your different Bikes then took off too put on something Different. We have ALL done that. Myself have at least 20 things laying around. Yours must be in the hundreds. It's Cool to watch you put em on .

Viking Bags reached out to me last week to ask if they could use the original video on their social media, even though it wasn't entirely positive. I said, "Sure!", and then edited it down to a shorter version with all of the original points and opinions intact. 😉👍 --QM

Why don’t you just get a tank bag?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  ปีที่แล้ว

Tank bags always scratch, so I didn't want anything resting on the tank. This was an early video from just after I purchased the Rebel 1100 and there were NO luggage options for it at the time.
Since then, I have ditched the swingarm bag and installed the Honda solo rear rack and also the Honda/SW-Motech saddlebags. You can see the final configuration that I've been using in this video: th-cam.com/video/vWoyLIqkHfg/w-d-xo.html .
That layout has served me well for the last 18 months and 7K touring miles. When I need more storage for my longer road trips and moto-camping adventures, then I'll toss my DrySpec D38 drybag across the rear rack. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@@timwagster9458 Agreed! I'm surprised that Can-Am hasn't sorted out that flaky SAS (steering angle sensor or yaw sensor) problem after 3+ years. Luckily, that's NOT one of the issues that plagues my Ryker. @ThrillMouseMoto has been suffering with that problem for over 2 years. It's a flawed design or just piss-poor problem mitigation and remediation on BRP's part. 😉👍 --QM

The bag was originally listed as a fitment for the Rebel 300/500/1100. I'm not sure how it fits on the 300/500, but the strap locations certainly didn't work for the 1100, and the buckles consumed half of the interior space. The minor changes that I made fixed those issues. I ended up removing that bag a couple of months later when my passenger seat and saddlebag supports arrived: th-cam.com/video/YNcx7Uuxrqw/w-d-xo.html . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
