i'm so thrilled to be groeing sweet peas for the first time this year! where I live we are starting to get autumn weather, so I'm going to follow the Cool Flower Method.
Yay!! That’s wonderful! I know we are able to start ours in the Fall here since we are in zone 8b and it doesn’t get too cold in the winters, but I also haven’t tried that method. It seems like it would be great to get a jump start for next year.
Never tried to grow sweet peas. I’m in zone 7b in the SE. I think we’re supposed to start in the Fall because Spring temps heat up too fast some years. I bought a short variety to try this Fall. Renee‘s seeds offers it. Also I think in general only certain ones are more heat tolerant. Thanks for the info.
Yes you are absolutely correct. Some can tolerate heat better. It’s also good to consider their bloom time- some are earlier blooming vs others are a later in the season. I’m super excited to get ours planted. 🤩
I finally stater acclimating mine!
That’s awesome. How are they now?
