Absolutely the cutest little Astromech in the galaxy! I used to have one of these when I was away at college but somehow managed to leave him behind (I know, I know, and yes I do feel guilty and miss him). . I don't know if this is a newer or different version as I remember a few things and don't remember others shown here, for example the light tag game, I don't remember him able to do that at all, but instead you could have him play Leila"s message and his light would shine (no Leila image tho) and he would dance to the Cantina music as well. My favorite was "Hey R2, go on patrol!" And he'd basically come to life and just roll around, avoiding obstacles, sometimes following people, like he was alive and exploring his environment with his array of sensors. He was a big hit at work as well. I cant wait to see what future versions of this little guy will be; if they can make one this sophisticated in 2008 (I think that's around when I had mine), imagine what they'll be able to do in a few years! I really have to get another Interactive R2- now if they'd just also make an Interactive K9 from Dr Who then I'd never have to talk to humans again! LOL! Thank you so much for sharing this video as it brings back loads of memories from a happier time.

From past research, it appears that this toy was released in 2002 and 2008. Christmas of 2015, ToysRUS released this product, plus the radio controlled version by "Thinkway". How do you determine what year the product was released? I thought by the box, but there are many style boxes on the internet. Then, I thought maybe the Voice Command Sheet would indicate the date. Any ideas? Jay
+Jay Thomas thanks for watching! I was not aware of a 2015 release of this toy although there are similar toys the 2015 one is not the same. The toy is probably mostly identical but was a different packaging and was not a Hasbro release from what I saw. I will check my packaging when I can get to it and reply with that info. I hope the one you purchased "was the droid you were looking for" and not something less awesome than this particular r2 unit.

When I received it, the seller was telling the truth. The twist ties were configured to factory specs. One droid was from 2002, and the other 2007. Have you ever heard two droids carry a conversation? It is never ending. LOL
Your first R2 has a spasm on the head? That's not a malfunction. He has a secondary autonomous mode, where he stares at you. It uses the same sensors that he uses in Follow me mode, however it doesn't use the drive wheels, only the head. You can manually activate it by having R2 reset system, then saying "Answer this!" and he'll begin tracking your face. He goes into this mode on his own, randomly. It can also be accidentally activated by smalltalk.
I just bought the last one on amazon and its disco now so this is a classic toy and I got it for $300 and the BB8 is going for $1000 now so its a collector item my friends!!
I just received him for my birthday from my daughter, but instructions are not in box, is the a link to print instructions and all info about him? I’m also missing the antenna 😮
