This is honestly a perfect analysis of the whole Steamy Awards fiasco. It was a really good concept, but its execution was quite flawed. But a lot of people in the fandom, myself included, were way too harsh towards him. So Play, Don’t Pause, if you’re reading this, I sincerely apologize. You didn’t deserve all of us attacking you.
While I don’t personally agree with not asking the creators for permission, I do think that the video was great. I was really angry in the heat of the moment but now looking back, even I agree we were too harsh on him. After this whole ordeal blows over I hope that everyone can come out of this as a better person.

"Time to kill my channel" is an incredibly based intro. On a more serious note, 100% agree with the part about making mistakes on videos and such (lord knows I've made my fair share). It would be really nice if people could say "I don't like the way you handled that video, but that doesn't make you a bad person". Stuff like that happens with frightening regularity. Just my two cents though, all are entitled to their own opinions of course.
As a person who really only just discovered that Thomas TH-cam Ducumentary series existed (I thought it was all 'TH-cam Poop Content') But the PlayDon'tPause opened my eyes to a wealth of content that I didn't know existed. I think he did a good job. Maybe he aint a pro when it comes to award stuff, but he's definitely laid a cornerstone that can be built and improved upon.
I have to agree about Victor. I believe his main problem is that he doesn't have anyone to hold him back. He needs someone to shoot down some of his ideas for videos. I want to like him for what he does with Stories of Sodor. I want to like him for his vast range of voices. Hell, I want to like him for The Reddit Railway. But when I was a Patron of him for a while, I asked him in DMs to perhaps tone down the edgyness of his Sodor Shorts. The response was a "I'll think about it". This was before the whole Adolf Thomas short he did that made me burn all bridges with him. I don't think of him as a bad human being or a bad creator. (At least, I hope he isn't a kiddy handler or worse) Just one that has too many flawed ideas. (Though thinking about it, it could be the fear of being COPPAed that makes him double down on the edge, but this is just my guess)
Here's my two cents. I think he should've asked permission, but at the same time, people have got to man up. This isn't something like LWP's disastrous The Exhibitonist video. He was trying to give advice to creators to improve their content. Many of the responses feel very immature on both sides really. But I will say that PDP should've handled the backlash better. But people also need to handle criticism better.
And look, I get that Victor has done some pretty bad things and continues to just be a pain in the a** to the Thomas fandom, but good content is good content. Many people love Ren and Stimpy, but that doesn't mean that John K is any less of a pervert and criminal. I agree that there was a lot of 2022 fan content that was overlooked, though. But a lot of the backlash does come from people who overall are terrible at responding to criticism. The Blue Snowplow, while I still do love his content, is a good example. He goes on a hissy fit if you give the slightest bit of criticism, it seems. I used to have a lot more respect for the guy, but he's really shown just how self-important he is in recent times.

Huh, not a bad video. And surprising to hear a Thomas fan mention Wildcat and Nogla since it seems not many people in the fandom share their other interests outside of Thomas or something. And yeah Playdon'tpause's video is rough, and I was certainly a bit struck by his comment when using a clip of an adaptation of one of my stories "spoon feeding the mystery to others" as a bit harsh. But I took it as something true since my stories work good for audio purposes, but they don't adapt for a visual medium too well since it describes stuff the viewer can clearly see without needing the writer to walk them through everything.
The Steamy Awards was a failed attempt to give some love to this wonderful community, and it’s a shame what happened. I honestly don’t understand why people say he should’ve asked every creator in the video for permission as most Thomas fan videos use something from other people’s content, even as small as fan uploads of the official episodes or fan music recreations or cleaned up audio of the original music. I also do agree he made the video more like a review than an award show but atleast it was an entertaining review! I just kinda assumed everyone forgot that even happened and the fans on Twitter went to complain about whatever people argue about on Twitter but maybe now that the dust has settled and people have watched this video maybe people will have second thoughts on Play Don’t Pause!

If I’m criticized for my work and how to make it better, I’m fine with that, I’m a starting writer (cause all my videos never had scripts…but making scripts is also bad for me XD…long story) plus he had good intentions, he didn’t flat out say disrespect you people! He gave some advice, heck in a real award show this happens to I bet. I want to be in a fandom where people can just chill for 5 minutes…the other fandom I’m in is FNAF…something happens every two seconds 90%ish of the time Also I’ve had people take my videos without permission (usually smaller creators…ok that probably came off as rude), but if my video is going to be mentioned or something, I’d be excited since my video was given attention. Once again, wasn’t malicious intention, I believe he’s from outside the fandom?? (I think?)And usually people outside looked down upon us…he gave us a chance. That’s all from me, Dan

People seriously are mad at him because they didn’t like the video? Why don’t they just make their own? Its called TH-cam! If I were Play, Don’t Pause I wouldn’t change a thing just to spite them. If I were him though, I probably would just never discuss any thomas fan content again because of the negative reaction to his criticism. Thats not an admission of doing anything wrong, it’s a recognition that the the Thomas fan community is not worth engaging with.
The Thomas fandom is partially upset because of the flaws I've pointed out in the video... Using content without permission and "shitting" on it can feel degrading. And for every one person that is upset, 10 other people will be too. I only made this video to help shine a light on some hidden facts, and to help provide a DIFFERENT perspective. I love this fandom, I just find it a shame how things turned out.

Seems to me when people make their own content using copyrighted characters and then get mad when other people criticize it are throwing stones in a glass house. People should be free to hate on whatever Play, Don’t Pause said. But its crossing a line to try and have him censored, or worse yet, self censor. If his video is unpopular, he should get dragged in the comments over his opinion, not the imaginary crime or slight of “using content without permission.” No one has permission from Mattel, and its all on youtube where anyone can access it. There was a certain egirl with a lot of clout who got multiple channels suspended a couple months back because she didn’t like people criticizing her old videos which were still up on TH-cam. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

In defense and to be fair to him, though, he has stated numerous times that the shorts are not canon and are usually parody. That said, of course, I don't particularly enjoy certain aspects of the shorts he made (I was weirded out by that one too) but, seriously it's not "engines." You say that as if it's a common occurrence and a normal part of the series. It's not, it was a one-time thing for a one-time gag. In fact, it even makes fun of that fact itself and how nonsensical it is (which personally I appreciate, DevoantArt is scary). Oh yeah, and he just kills the son off anyway. And is that to say ALL the shorts are cringe? Some are hit or miss but I highly doubt some aren't. I mean, Robot Chicken and before have done the same thing and worse so it's not as if it's new territory. But hey, that's just my two cents.
I'm glad you made this video and agree with a lot of it, but I must disagree about the need to make an apology video. PDP has nothing to apologise for; the fandom should apologise to him if anything. On that note - and I address this in general - I can not understand the antagonism towards Victor Tanzig, either. I've seen fans get away with much worse than anything Victor has done.
About victor getting hated I saw someone post a rant towards him on a community post about an offensive short because it has something nazi related in Thomas like that.
So what exactly has he done to warrant that? The only thing i remember people criticizing him for was that one short he had deleted cause it had some some offensive dialogue in it.
I don’t care at all that he didn’t ask permission, it’s fair use so he’s completely in the right. And I thought going into it that there was going to be different judges, but there weren’t. It was all his thoughts, thus making it a biased video. It was an awful experience, and though I don’t think all of the hate is deserved, a good amount of it is.
