I’m urging everyone to send your complaints about the UI on the feedback site. This isn’t just an aesthetic change - it’s a change that negatively functions accessibility for MANY, many people.
I greatly second this; I did this the instant I saw that possibility. You can do this from the mobile app itself via settings, in the "appearance" section or however it's called in your language.
Another issue I need to say: the old layout also made it easier for those with motor skill issues and disabilities, I am incredibly shaky and I have a lot of issues when it comes to using apps, with this new one it’s practically impossible for me to use

This update is so incredibly bad, have been using the same layout for the past 4 years & now they change the whole thing to something similar to amino which is disgusting, and they should reconsider public opinion to bring it back. At this point now, changing the logo, username system & now the layout ruined what made discord unique at whole. Edit: it's better to just not become like the twitter stans & get along with the update, maybe it's not that bad in the end.

As a person that relies on my moter skills because of my disability this update is horrible. i will strictly be using discord on my computer for a while. i have put this app above the rest of social media apps for a long time and it hurts to see it become something it really isnt. it went from "a fun place to be" to just "a place to be"
not only that but how am i supposto get used to the layout change on my phone vs my computer each day. i just cant get used to that drastic change every day
@@FlapjacksWolf if you have an android you can download an APK of a different version. you have to uninstall the app before trying to install the APK or else it wont work. you can find good versions at the websites APK mirror or APK pure. The version I have is 167.17
They call it "Improved", but all they've done is make EVERYTHING more difficult to navigate, more buttons to get to BASIC THINGS, making the layout confusing, and just making it TERRIBLE.

And I am not talking about the new UI. The ONLY reason the old UI was "intuitive" was because you were used to the desktop UI, which they simply ported to mobile (a terrible UI design). A good UI should have all the things you use most in a single area. Swiping for things like messages, user groups, or anything else for that matter is intuitive if you know where those things are in the first place. Ask yourself this. Why did I try to swipe right from the chat menu to see the users in a server (only to find out it is now reply). Was it because there was something indicating that there was another window? No. It was because you knew before hand that there was the user list next to the messages. Would a new user know this? No. That makes it objectively bad UI.
@@myrkgard2034there's literally an icon of multiple persons that you can click on for it to open up. Where else would you find the people? With this new UI, you have to click on something which had no reason to contain the members.
For the people saying they actually like it and people should stop complaining you do realize that not only are there more people who dont like it but that they could just make something to toggle back to normal and y'all would keep your objectively damn horrible UI?
People don’t like it because it is different. If you get used to a shit UI(annoying af to access your profile beforehand and how dm’s were in a weird spot with servers), you won’t think it’s shit. So of course people are gonna be venomous when it comes to objectively better UI. It’s like introducing a deranged crackhead to a healthy hobby.
@umuclaudius As a uni student that has made an android app in flutter, I can say that the new discord UI is aesthetically pleasing and familiar. It also looks very minimalistic, which I prefer. I wouldn’t be opposed to Frutiger Aero(assuming it was standardized for all UI). That UI is basically what Windows 7 looks like, for reference.

The member list is just inconvenient now. Not only is it slower and more annoying to get into. They completely removed offline members being greyed out. You can't just easily tell at a glance who's actually online anymore. Having to tap a small button on the top of the screen just to get into that tab makes its more annoying on larger servers where you can't just move between them anymore
I actually just started to associate discord with this specific shade of gray. My eyes are just so used to it I am actually angry for them that they changed it especially with my sensory issues it's terrible.
As far as how I don't like the new update, perhaps Discord should add in an option to switch between both the old and new layout Rather than force everyone in to using it
@@sweetbubblepop Because you can't simply "have" the old UI, it still needs to be a part of the app (adding bloat) and they still have to maintain it (adding development complexity). The old UI was literally just a port from the desktop version to mobile with a few tweaks to make it work. This was fine for long time discord users, but objectively confusing for anyone new.
the searching change is actually worse too you have to be in the channel to see the search results for that channel so if you want to find something but don’t remember what channel it’s in, have fun since your searches don’t pull up things for all channels anymore. but wait, it gets better! it also goes by scrolling rather than pages, so if you wanna find something from awhile ago you have to scroll for ages instead of being able to easily flip to a longer time ago.
been using discord since before nitro was a thing. the new layout for mobile is honestly annoying, I really hope there is away to revert on mobile, especially ios if so let me know.
you can, i have the old layout on my phone on iphone you can just use an old ipa im pretty sure you can find an apk for android as well but i haven't tried that since i have an iphone
Not only is it super inconvenient to use, the new update breaks the app constantly, group chats will appear as other ones, it keeps sending me a mile upwards whenever I click on a channel. It sucks so much

"...searching, which is better..." There are two different search bars in two separate locations with different search functionality. The old one had all of the functionality in one singular search bar.
I had the previous “new layout” where the server were on the bottom where your could scroll through them instead of them being on the side. I’ve been using this layout for a year just for them to change it to this and to not allow me to revert back to the one I’ve gotten comfortable with is extremely frustrating because I prefer it more than this one/the original
For the people saying to just get to used to it: it's not easy to do so when a lot of the changes simply aren't very good. Navigation just isn't as fluid even if you want to learn it, you can't quickly swap between talking on a server and on DMs as quickly as in the old layout

its just like other platforms, they like to change layouts of their app but they dont revert it to the old one however much hate they get, theyll always wait till the community gets used to it and then they dont get no more hate, thats how almost every app works lol
What they should have done was give people the choice between the two layouts like how they had it when the UI was an Easter Egg. That way both sides could be happy.
I'm happy to hear I'm not the only person that HATES this new UI. I saw what it looked like from my friends and now I'm refusing to update it, turned auto update off. The big thing I'm worried about is will discord even listen to us? Do they even care what we have to say? I think back to the username change and how many people didn't like it, and nothing happened, it makes me feel like they don't give a damn about their users opinions and feedback. Discord is still the best mobile messaging app imo, but damn.. it feels like I'm a parent watching my kid leave home and make every bad decision possible.

For those people who know about what happened with D&D beyond, I hope that’s what happens with this. People totally bombed the website and cancelled subscriptions and such, so they lost so much money in such a quick amount of time where they had no choice but to cancel their plans. I hope discord loses enough money to go back so people can actually use the app without issues. I think the dark mode is fine.. IF YOU WANTED IT? It’s too dark. I hate the reply feature, it takes more taps to get to servers/dms, I can’t swipe back into a conversation I have to reselect it. I for some reason keep having discord switch me to the old layout and then like an hour later it switches back to the new? That has happened like 4 times now, I don’t know why but I love when I get to have the old layout back for a minute. I’m on mobile so I can’t download an old version which SUCKS. Also the reply sign looks like a road sign and it’s ugly 😊
Why do the friends with closed DMs appear above your open DMs! If I want a DM closed, I don’t wanna see that person! They’re tried to fix issues that didn’t exist. Maybe they should work on the reporting system, because it sucks. Absolutely ridiculous.
"Oh hey, we see you closed a DM from a scammer/person who sent something unsolicited/general rude person. We'll bring those front and first so you can reopen them, don't worry!"
the swiping and layout would hinder my abilty to moderate my servers i need the fast swipe to the side to be able to quickly find people blessings to the abilty to turn app updates off, this looks like a horror story that'd make dissy unusable for me in many ways
Now, I didnt hate the Logo change, but what I did hate was that they removed our tags! To this day I complain to it in my status/about me. THIS IS NEARLY WORSE!
New layout is like generic Telegram/Amino. It's ugly and unnecessarily cumbersome. The old UI served a purpose, especially for people with disabilities, because everything was accessible from one central hub. Now they expect you to ping-pong back and forth between sections to get anything done. My note-taking has suffered from it. I can only imagine what it's doing to the people who are actually employed by larger server owners.
We did in fact have a lot of time to get used to this UI. The problem isn't that we need to get used to it, the problem is it is terrible in literally every conceivable way.
i got the new layout and got used to the messages button quickly. the only problem i had was the app "softlocking" (basically: cannot switch channels or servers, cannot switch to messages, settings still open) at random times. Hope it's not just for me.
It is not just you, it's been showing my DMS with people when I've switched to group chats. I've been a beta tester for about a year and trust me when I say this. This UI is way more refined than what it was in the beginning of 2023.
Can we all appreciate, besides the downsides, that they finally added favorite DMs? Like you can pin your best buddies at the top of DMs. Hope that comes to desktop soon
I don't think I can physically use the new layout without it braking or doing something I don't want. Why did they change it if the app worked perfectly.
@umuclaudius If they don't they will lose a lot of people minor things like a logo don't matter IMO but when you ruin the majority of your users experience they will find something else to use and as far as I know discord already operates at a loss it's why they have tried so hard in recent years to charge for features. If they don't at least add back the option too switch to classic UI I think they will lose a lot of app downloads and wouldn't be surprised if the apps rating tanks massively
The old layout was fine. This new one just is too modern, also nobody asked for this update, and we didn’t need it. Another waste of time and money for discord.
The searching is actually worse as you can no longer view images without clicking on them and clicking them kicks you out of the search method and its the same with pins
Its so uncomfortable to use now like before you swipe left for server list, dms, server channels, the middle for chatting and right for the player list. But now you have to press buttons, i swipe to close the dm but want to go back to it but i cant and have to press the dm to open it and its just so unnecessary uncomfortable it is to use

If you wanna roll out a new UI fine, but when the existing one is easier to use and looks better it feels kinda pointless especially the swipe to reply stuff that is second nature for anyone who uses discord on their phone why change that? They've made a worse experience for their users by forcing this change keep the old layout as the default and have this one be a secondary option. I also don't like the idea of dumbing down UI especially when discords is already simple to use in an effort to making it simpler they have made it more annoying and more difficult to navigate and do basic task
The layout is honestly just fine and I can get used to it, the main problem is the fact I cannot swipe to see the server list anymore. That was way more convenient.
the new mobile layout has accomplished 1 thing for me, a decreased usage of discord and thereby little to no contact with my friends unless I'm home and an inability to quickly snap/send photos since I've removed the app from my phone and intend to either replace it or just deal with not being reachable via mobile discord.

"Save time and make it easier to maneuver" >proceeds to slow down the app, settings, and connections. While at the same time making it bug so much, it takes 30 mins to send a single message because you have to reload the app 5 times and resend the "failed to send" 'User friendly'
as someone that has used discord since 2018 and got very familiar with the old discord layout and design, the new update has totally ruined the experience for me. this video basically sums up why i deleted it 💀

I swear, I just got this god AWFUL update and just how much they wanted to excuse the need for a "swipe to reply" without it being optional is making me INSANE. They locked behind a button at the TOP of your screen (super damn uncomfortable given that you type on the opposite end) and hid behind it not only the original sidebar, BUT NEW FEATURES TOO! How much did they test it to see that this is not only detrimental to those who were used to the app's layout, but is also generally bad design? I've had to press that damn button 3 to 5 times to finally get the hitbox each time I wanted to, because it's just so damn uncomfortable to go all the way to the end of the screen if you were typing a second before.
So I deleted Discord off of my phone and reinstalled it from the App Store, and it reverted it back to its original layout and format. Hopefully it would do the same for anyone else who wants to go back to that original look because they hate it too
honestly, i started using it when it was just an experience because I knew they would make it official eventually. now I'm used to it, and I love it. though I can't decide whether I like the fact that they used the old server layout instead of the new one in the experimental option.
I stopped updating Discord after an update that ruined everything for me. I am using an older version. And since I am on an older version, the only way I can use Discord Nitro is to update... so... I'd rather keep the old version than pay money for something and end up with a Discord UI I can't stand. I have sight issues and the current Discord is disgustingly not sight impaired friendly. So I don't use it. It also means I can't boost a server, but I'd rather have a better user experience than pay money for a worse one.
This is honestly terrible. I was used to the new UI and had been using it for 6 months now (the ✨new ui if you know what i mean) and it going back to the servers on the left is terrible bro
What is the biggest phones I'm having with DUI is whenever I'm running a group or a server I'm having trouble removing people from the server or the server's issue is fixed itself but whenever I try to remove someone from a group or do anything with them on a group it just doesn't want to work all it does is either send me to their profile or send me to settings where I can't do anything
Dude, what do you mean by "search became better"? It's the thing with literally the worst changes they've made, you can't just jump to messages temporarily anymore, can't fucking preview images, and there are no pages anymore, just endless scrolling.

Ive had this layout for a while but i cant have my servers in a pull tab on the bottom anymore and its super annoying I just deleted the whole app Im so used to it, im used to everything but the fact that my apps arent in a pull up tab at the bottom is annoying
Not to mention I constantly get weird buggy server chats where I either cannot send messages or it sends them in a different chat or server. My muscle memory is fucked now and every time i try to check on the server members I answer to a message, the dms are annoying now... They could have changed the UI and left the gestures the same. They also force it down our throats, and almost everything has so much visual clutter you barely get any info on the screens, ie. the server members screen. And yeah, I constantly have to restart the app because its so buggy. Anyways, sorry for ranting I just hate it...
So to save you time, does it look good? No. Does everyone hate it? Yes.

They should’ve made it an optional layout, and the OG should’ve been under “Classic” while the new layout be under “Modern”.

As someone who used amino… it’s so much worse… even amino was competent enough to have an understandable layout, navigating the app wasn’t confusing.

been using discord since before nitro was a thing. the new layout for mobile is honestly annoying, I really hope there is away to revert on mobile, especially ios if so let me know.

Not only is it super inconvenient to use, the new update breaks the app constantly, group chats will appear as other ones, it keeps sending me a mile upwards whenever I click on a channel. It sucks so much

There are two different search bars in two separate locations with different search functionality. The old one had all of the functionality in one singular search bar.
I had the previous “new layout” where the server were on the bottom where your could scroll through them instead of them being on the side. I’ve been using this layout for a year just for them to change it to this and to not allow me to revert back to the one I’ve gotten comfortable with is extremely frustrating because I prefer it more than this one/the original
Exactly this! I’ve been using the new UI for so long.. and for them to fuse the old UI with the new one feels so unnatural.

For the people saying to just get to used to it: it's not easy to do so when a lot of the changes simply aren't very good.
Navigation just isn't as fluid even if you want to learn it, you can't quickly swap between talking on a server and on DMs as quickly as in the old layout

its just like other platforms, they like to change layouts of their app but they dont revert it to the old one however much hate they get, theyll always wait till the community gets used to it and then they dont get no more hate, thats how almost every app works lol

What they should have done was give people the choice between the two layouts like how they had it when the UI was an Easter Egg. That way both sides could be happy.
I'm happy to hear I'm not the only person that HATES this new UI. I saw what it looked like from my friends and now I'm refusing to update it, turned auto update off.
The big thing I'm worried about is will discord even listen to us? Do they even care what we have to say? I think back to the username change and how many people didn't like it, and nothing happened, it makes me feel like they don't give a damn about their users opinions and feedback.
Discord is still the best mobile messaging app imo, but damn.. it feels like I'm a parent watching my kid leave home and make every bad decision possible.
I'm completely dumbfounded how they make a major change such as the layout and UI, why implement a major change to the app and not have an option to keep old changes?

For those people who know about what happened with D&D beyond, I hope that’s what happens with this. People totally bombed the website and cancelled subscriptions and such, so they lost so much money in such a quick amount of time where they had no choice but to cancel their plans. I hope discord loses enough money to go back so people can actually use the app without issues. I think the dark mode is fine.. IF YOU WANTED IT? It’s too dark. I hate the reply feature, it takes more taps to get to servers/dms, I can’t swipe back into a conversation I have to reselect it. I for some reason keep having discord switch me to the old layout and then like an hour later it switches back to the new? That has happened like 4 times now, I don’t know why but I love when I get to have the old layout back for a minute. I’m on mobile so I can’t download an old version which SUCKS. Also the reply sign looks like a road sign and it’s ugly 😊

Why do the friends with closed DMs appear above your open DMs! If I want a DM closed, I don’t wanna see that person! They’re tried to fix issues that didn’t exist. Maybe they should work on the reporting system, because it sucks. Absolutely ridiculous.

Old layout just felt more "open"
New layout is like generic Telegram/Amino. It's ugly and unnecessarily cumbersome. The old UI served a purpose, especially for people with disabilities, because everything was accessible from one central hub.
Now they expect you to ping-pong back and forth between sections to get anything done. My note-taking has suffered from it. I can only imagine what it's doing to the people who are actually employed by larger server owners.
We did in fact have a lot of time to get used to this UI. The problem isn't that we need to get used to it, the problem is it is terrible in literally every conceivable way.
i got the new layout and got used to the messages button quickly. the only problem i had was the app "softlocking" (basically: cannot switch channels or servers, cannot switch to messages, settings still open) at random times. Hope it's not just for me.
It is not just you, it's been showing my DMS with people when I've switched to group chats.
I've been a beta tester for about a year and trust me when I say this. This UI is way more refined than what it was in the beginning of 2023.
You can always revert it to the old one with an APK if thats any help.
If you want normal dark mode try using system default background and set dark mode in your phone and that's how you can use old dark mode

@umuclaudius If they don't they will lose a lot of people minor things like a logo don't matter IMO but when you ruin the majority of your users experience they will find something else to use and as far as I know discord already operates at a loss it's why they have tried so hard in recent years to charge for features. If they don't at least add back the option too switch to classic UI I think they will lose a lot of app downloads and wouldn't be surprised if the apps rating tanks massively
The old layout was fine. This new one just is too modern, also nobody asked for this update, and we didn’t need it. Another waste of time and money for discord.
The searching is actually worse as you can no longer view images without clicking on them and clicking them kicks you out of the search method and its the same with pins

Its so uncomfortable to use now like before you swipe left for server list, dms, server channels, the middle for chatting and right for the player list. But now you have to press buttons, i swipe to close the dm but want to go back to it but i cant and have to press the dm to open it and its just so unnecessary uncomfortable it is to use

Google Play recently announced what from now one, some apps will automatically update even if you disabled auto update function
If you wanna roll out a new UI fine, but when the existing one is easier to use and looks better it feels kinda pointless especially the swipe to reply stuff that is second nature for anyone who uses discord on their phone why change that? They've made a worse experience for their users by forcing this change keep the old layout as the default and have this one be a secondary option. I also don't like the idea of dumbing down UI especially when discords is already simple to use in an effort to making it simpler they have made it more annoying and more difficult to navigate and do basic task

The layout is honestly just fine and I can get used to it, the main problem is the fact I cannot swipe to see the server list anymore. That was way more convenient.
They should add a feature where we can switch layouts, (old and new) then There not existing hard work wouldn't disappear...
the new mobile layout has accomplished 1 thing for me, a decreased usage of discord and thereby little to no contact with my friends unless I'm home and an inability to quickly snap/send photos since I've removed the app from my phone and intend to either replace it or just deal with not being reachable via mobile discord.
My Discord client on my phone is 60 versions out of date. I still have the old font.

bro this update is so bad, I cant believe discord would add this to everyone, if they knew user’s wouldn’t like it they should’ve not released it. They should have at least added an option to go back to the old setting
I swear, I just got this god AWFUL update and just how much they wanted to excuse the need for a "swipe to reply" without it being optional is making me INSANE. They locked behind a button at the TOP of your screen (super damn uncomfortable given that you type on the opposite end) and hid behind it not only the original sidebar, BUT NEW FEATURES TOO! How much did they test it to see that this is not only detrimental to those who were used to the app's layout, but is also generally bad design? I've had to press that damn button 3 to 5 times to finally get the hitbox each time I wanted to, because it's just so damn uncomfortable to go all the way to the end of the screen if you were typing a second before.
My biggest issue is the search feature!! I cant simply type a name and click image to find those images not to mention in a specific channel!!

So I deleted Discord off of my phone and reinstalled it from the App Store, and it reverted it back to its original layout and format. Hopefully it would do the same for anyone else who wants to go back to that original look because they hate it too

I stopped updating Discord after an update that ruined everything for me. I am using an older version. And since I am on an older version, the only way I can use Discord Nitro is to update... so... I'd rather keep the old version than pay money for something and end up with a Discord UI I can't stand. I have sight issues and the current Discord is disgustingly not sight impaired friendly. So I don't use it. It also means I can't boost a server, but I'd rather have a better user experience than pay money for a worse one.

What is the biggest phones I'm having with DUI is whenever I'm running a group or a server I'm having trouble removing people from the server or the server's issue is fixed itself but whenever I try to remove someone from a group or do anything with them on a group it just doesn't want to work all it does is either send me to their profile or send me to settings where I can't do anything

Dude, what do you mean by "search became better"? It's the thing with literally the worst changes they've made, you can't just jump to messages temporarily anymore, can't fucking preview images, and there are no pages anymore, just endless scrolling.

Not to mention I constantly get weird buggy server chats where I either cannot send messages or it sends them in a different chat or server. My muscle memory is fucked now and every time i try to check on the server members I answer to a message, the dms are annoying now... They could have changed the UI and left the gestures the same. They also force it down our throats, and almost everything has so much visual clutter you barely get any info on the screens, ie. the server members screen. And yeah, I constantly have to restart the app because its so buggy. Anyways, sorry for ranting I just hate it...
