I work as an Investigator assigned to the Crimes against Children’s unit. His explanation sounds similar to a lot of bad guys I’ve put in prison. There’s never a good reason why an adult would have any form of communication with a child he/she met online.
Only time I talk to kids on games is when I’m on 2k. That’s all they play. But if they good at the game I will add them to run with them. But he was on some Diddy shi!!!

If you watch these to catch a predators or Colorado Ped Patrol you see a distinct patter with every one of them. "Yea I swapped inappropriate messages but nothing was gonna happen". I can guarantee if Twitch didn't get involved there would have been a crime, you don't just accidentally get into an explicit convo with someone you know is a minor.

The funny thing is...I stopped gaming with some people because of weird stuff like this. I even got labeled as the weird one for suggesting that a 12-year-old kid who joined the party either leave or be kicked out. There were 7 of us in the party at the time the kid joined. The youngest of us was 26. Once kid told me his age, my immediate response was "he is way too young to be in here with us". One of the other dude in the party said the kid was his son's friend and in his exact words "let the young nigga rock out". Everyone in the party too agreed with letting him "rock out". Kid heard the support he was getting and immediately got mad disrespectful towards me, calling me weird and all kinds of things. Everyone else in the party thought it was funny. I left the party and have never played with that group since.
