I always felt that Bargate was a "For Hire Prison" In that if you can afford to throw someone in despite their standing you can. The reason I think this is because of how relatively small the prison is with the 3 cell blocks, The fact that if you break the law no matter how bad you don't get arrested, You and Scarlet Robe getting thrown in despite being recognized heroes (and morally good if you chose that path.), and the whole birthday race thing being the only activity prisoners have. If Jack had all of this influence there he could've backed up the guard force with his own minions or even run the while prison himself maybe throwing his personal enemies to the void or something. The chapter is also one of the few times violence is an option for escape until you reach the underchambers of course. Also the other prisoners they don't seem to be criminals in the normal sense too
This has always been my assumption as well. Bargate gives me hard-core Chateau D'if vibes... "No, my dear Dantes, I know perfectly well that you are innocent. Why else would you be here? If you were truly guilty there are a hundred prisons in France where they would lock you away. But, Chateau d'if is where they put the ones they're ashamed of."
Well Jack does call balveriens puppies so I believe he would be able to control or talk to the kraken I also believe he can talk to any creature and use it to his advantage kind of like in the way we can control bees and all that we have a limit he may not
Barget Prison’s Warden Poetry reading actually reminds me of my high school time Welsh born History teacher in Ireland(I’m Irish) whenever we or he get bored he read poet he loves but ends up we get bored more lol
There are two theories I’ve had on the ownership of Bargate Prison: 1. It’s owned by Bowerstone directly but under Lady Grey, it became a place where she dumped all her political opponents and dissidents to make sure that no one would stand up against her. She replaced the staff with her own loyal, but ruthless, thugs and gave them a sense of authority but so long as they dealt with her problems, they could do whatever they liked to the inmates. And when Jack returned, Grey allowed him to use the prison as well since he encouraged her to become Mayor in the first place and dump people who he found inconvenient there as well but she never asked questions as to who they were or why, she just was keen to have Jack as an ally. 2. It’s “owned” by Jack, by which I mean that the structure was probably just a fort or something from years or centuries past but Jack’s bandits, possibly the same ones that destroyed Oakvale, rebuilt and reformed the place into somewhere Jack could use to contain and torture people for information if they knew something about how to recover the Sword, in any shape or form. It’s not associated with Bowerstone at all, and the guard uniforms were probably just stolen from somewhere else to give these bandits a sense of authority and power over their inmates. I find this less credible since I can’t see Jack being that invested in something like a prison and he could probably trap people in the Void for later use if he really needed them, so I would side with it being Grey’s political prison that Jack was able to use as he saw fit as well.
Late reply but I give different thoughts on 2nd theory It could be Owned by Jack of blade however every Warden who assigned to there actually Bribed by Jack considering Warden is Young compare to the Scarlet Robe since she’s locked in there when hero is Young and Guards who get payment from Warden just following order And if I were warden in there I wouldn’t imprison Hero or dare to touch him even if I’m bandit in Guard uniform lol
This was my first RPG ever and when I played it as a child the Bargate Prison traumatized me. It seemed like some very vile and evil fever dream and I felt such relief when I finally escaped. Horrible. This prison alone is probably the sole reason why I hate it when a video game imprisons you against your will or somehow traps you in an area.
I can't say I've ever come across that view before, but I can completely understand it. I have a similar feeling where I feel comforted in a horror game and I have an npc experiencing it with me.
It works extremely well in an RPG setting: Your entire "freedom" is just removed, something that makes rpg's what they are. I think they do add a very memorable moments due to that. I haven't seen other games do this as well.
Great video as always skyrion 🙏 i like to play with the idea that the developers of the next fable game watches your videon for insparation, but one can only hope! 😂 sure would make the series stay true to the original
Do you suppose that with the cruelty exhibited by the guards in the fact that they said Jack of blades was boss and the fact that it's known that Jack encouraged / helped Lady Gray to become the mayor and encouraged her to kill her sister do you think perhaps he had some evil influence radiating out from him? Especially since the rest of the guards throughout all of Albion seem to be pretty virtuous and not cruel. In fact I would say maybe with the exception of some bandits we don't see any cruelty on the level that we do with the guards in bargate prison
I don’t know about your normal players- but I always tried to get the escaped men out with me by giving them cover with ghost swords and healing them constantly. Would try for hours to get them all out
@@Skyrionn Yeah, I believe that's what the Guard outfit was originally created for, so you could sneak your way past. But they made the room where you acquire it mandatory to progress instead.
The theory did make me think for the first time that the Kraken isn’t actually all that evil, but if it were trapped by Jack, then it would be more like an abused animal which has been forced into fighting for its master’s amusement and only lashes out at the HOO because it feels trapped and has no choice but naturally might just leave people alone if they never attack first, which adds an oddly tragic element to the creature’s story since it had as much of a choice to fight as we did in that case.
I obviously don’t remember the poetry the warden recites, but does anyone remember if what he was spouting had any significance or was derived from something?
I don’t think the Crackin actually dies the eye symbol if you go back into the room actually opens, which means you just injured it. It could also be a glitch because one time it popped up for a split second when I entered the room after supposedly killed it.
Every play through I do, I try to win the race and get the key first try. It never happened though. Always opened the wrong book. Is it even possible? I’m curious.
I've always believed that Jack raised the Kraken from birth (Hatching? Do Krakens come in eggs?). Once it got just big enough that it couldn't escape through the piping placed it there and trained it to attack anyone and anything that came from the direction of the prison (As there was only 2 entrances to the Kraken's chamber).
What if Bargain prison is reaven scar from fable 3, the ship in fable 3 leave in direction to the bargain prison, and both are prison that no one is suppose to escape.
One thing i never liked about jack is how he can just show up...and kidnap you with low level enemies i could one-shot, Like damn bro thats kinda insulting 😂 Just kill me if youre OP enough to do so smh
The theory: fable the journey is a fever dream the hero of Oakvale had during his year of imprisonment in Bargate.
Very good theory! What if everything past Fable 1 just didn't happen.
cant wait for fable 4
I can, because it's gonna suck
I have full faith in playground. Maybe it will suck but I don’t care I just want more Fable

Greatest villain in a video game ever. Up there with vader, palpatine etc.

I think this is the prison I've always had trouble on you have to sneak after you win the race to find the keys to the cells and I'm terrible at it
It took me two attempts to get that key.
:O I was just binge watching your videos and a new one came up, nice!

I would love to think that the Playground developers watch these. One of them did follow me on Twitter recently.... @skyrionn
I literally am replaying through the three in anticipation of 4. Just finished Anniversary and started 2 last night.

It's a shame, there was meant to be a whole stealth section for Bargate but it was entirely squashed :'(
WHAT! That sounds amazing!
@@Skyrionn Yeah, I believe that's what the Guard outfit was originally created for, so you could sneak your way past. But they made the room where you acquire it mandatory to progress instead.
I think Ravenscar keep from fable 3 is actually the same bargate prison but remodelled due to the passing of time. But who knows, i may be wrong.
Now that's an enemy I can't wait to see again

I have to ask. Where the heck did you find the Fable inspired font you're using in your videos?
I'm unsure now - I think its called "Fable2" font
i think jack summoned the kraken because when we first go to the prison we dont see it but when we escape we see it
Look in the water next time. You can see a strange glowing thing in the pool of water.

Love your lore videos! Do you find all this information in the actual books you can read in the fables?
I normally put my sources in the description. It's a blend of a bunch of things really!
Is there a connection between Ravenscar keep, and Bargate prison?
It is referenced in Ravenscar Keep, but there is not a solid connection
These prison guards are the only ones you kill that's not considered an evil karma act

Was the eye Red? Because Scarlett Robe is right next to you and she causes the Eye as well, just blue not red.

It’s rare occasions According to Ex Dev you usually get the key at the 2nd try but if you lucky or guessed well you get the key first try
I too can never get the key on the first try. Even trying a different one of the three books.

I always wondered after showing off my kraken trophy head why it looked so small. baby kraken? who knows the theory might be right :p
Oh maybe? I was unsure about this one... could have some merit though!
So is Oakfield in the same area?
No.
Maybe on the same coast, but not the same area. North of Albion is still fairly large
Plot twist jack killed a krackin and summoned it
nice!
Fable has greater lores than half life in my opinion. That's because i've never played fables and the story is more confusing than half life
