- It is Family Day at MCRD Parris Island and we finally get to see our new Marine after 13 weeks! We are unbelievably happy to see him and are such proud parents. Ethan fractured his leg during The Crucible so was on crutches and unable to participate in the motivational run. We enjoyed getting a personal tour from our son and seeing first hand what he has been doing and where he has been living the last three months.

Wow this is crazy. It’s been 5 years since this video and your son was my combat instructor this September. He’s the most motivated marine I met and He’s also great leader. Us new marines learned a lot from him! Sgt Myatt is the best!

This brings back so many memories. I graduated from platoon 3070 Mike Company from Parris Island in 1995!
CONGRATS! ETHAN! Joining the Military is so honorable. My uncles fought in WWI and WWII and my father in Korea, my brothers in Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm. Now i have nephews in the military. Choosing to serve is so great. I wish you well.

I loved it. As a mother myself, I must admit that I couldn't help but cry. I know you are so proud of your son and his determination to do something that is not for everyone. You must be busting wide open with pride. Way to go Ethan.
This was one of the proudest moment of our lives! And Colby was so impressed with Parris Island he has shifted his thinking and is strongly considering the Marines himself.

My son graduated 4/27/18, happiest and proudest day ever. Your son's platoon is in the same position my son was, last platoon to the right. Im TEARING UP watching this. When they gave that liberty call. I ran down those steps. Needless to say we all cried, and I'm sure you did too when you saw your son Congrats to you and your Marine.

This was neat to watch and see some things never change. I graduated from boot camp over 45 years ago and still I've had tears in my eyes as I watched these last two videos (graduation left). I'm sure that won't change with the next one. I still get goosebumps when I hear the National anthem and the Marine Corp Hymn. Tell your son Semper Fi from the Old Corps!
My grandfather used to be a drill instructor a long time ago at Parris Island. Just now catching up on these vids :)

Just wanted to say Congratulations Ethan.....I had 2 brothers that graduated Paris Island. And while you guys were getting your Marine for the day there I was getting my new Granddaughter that day. She was born at 5:28 pm on 9/6/18. So we both have memorable things for that day. Love to all of you and prayers to Ethan as he continues this journey.

Congratulations MoM!! There are some great family groups on Facebook that I have joined. It good to have other parents to ask questions to or lean on if needed. We are missing our Marine right now who is in desert training.

We were in Beaufort,SC/Parris Island 10 years ago. Everytime a class graduates everyone knows. It's a HUGE DEAL. Some of the families of the graduates stay at Hunting Island camp ground where we stay.👍👍👍👍👍👍

Was trying to tell other parents (civilians) at my job who have only "sent kids off to college" how this is different.

Great video! Brings back lots of memories, however much different from a San Diego graduation in 1976 like I had. Curious why Ethan wasn't held back after fracturing his leg.
The DIs asked him if he wanted medical attention during the Crucible and he declined because he was determined to finish. Once finished, he was officially a Marine. He will now have to finish healing before he can go onto MCT.

I have your hubby beat in the hair department, mine is to my waist. BUT.... he's got great hair! LOL! Anyhow 13 weeks from now I hope to be there..... walk in your footsteps.
Congratulations to you for raising a fine young man!! Ours has been in for three years and he is now a Corporal and deployed with the Navy. We couldn’t be more proud!

I don't quite understand it all, he wanted to do this all on his own so wouldn't let me help, ask questions, or give him any pointers. but I understand that he very well COULD end up on a ship as a drone pilot if he "gets it" or in another country. (But the large drones are flown out of the USA as I understand it.) I'm still watching! Not sure if there are more.... but I'll be looking! FYI he calls me tonight, he arrives at Parris Island around Midnight? my friends tell me? What time did you get called?
His MOS is logistics, he is an ammo chief now.
@@EECCTravels Nice.... we need him back in the states, some is hard to find. AND expensive. LOL May God have his hand on him, and cover him as he performs his duties and lives, travels. (I've traveled the entire world as an entertainer for 30 years, and now as an automation engineer. Seeing the world is a wonderful thing. My wife is Japanese, got married a couple of years ago.) I work a lot in Asia.

That's awesome! He can't wait to go to MCT!! But he has to go back to PI until his leg is fully healed.
Yes!!! He'll get to shoot a lot of really cool weapons, land nav, more hiking! and he'll find out where he's getting stationed. I got MCAS miramar in san diego! I thought MCT was so cool. I remember thinking most likely I'm never going to do this stuff again so make the best of it!! Well, get better soon Ethan and good luck because YES you will need that leg!! :)

Haha family day was always the worst for the non graduating companies. Thousands of civilians wondering the depot interested in taking pictures. I was in mike company and Lima company right next door was having family day. The drill instructors always told us when we're marching that we stop for no one and just walk through them. We were coming back from chow and all of the families were gathered outside the Lima house, the guide and squad leaders walked right through everyone and just bumping everyone out of the way lol. Then our senior di starting yelling at them and scared the fuck out of em 😂 many think recruits are at the bottom on the depots, but they're not. Recruits will always be higher than civilians
Facts. I think it was especially worst for all companies near the peatross parade deck (Hotel, Golf, Fox, etc.) Having to watch new Marines earn the EGA and then graduate shortly after. 😭
@@ibnshabazz3989 It's true, I was Fox and our squad bay was right across the street from the indoor facility. I watched 10 companies have family day, it was awful
We are headed there tomorrow. Is there a better place to stand for moto run to be able to get to AWF quicker? I heard you have to sit or you’re not allowed in. No standing room.
Just go straight to the AWF after the run. Go to the left side of the building (far side away from the sidewalk). Everyone was lining up on the right and the line was way shorter to the left. Congratulations to your new Marine!!

He suffered a Tibia fracture during the Crucible but still pushed onward! Happened on day one of the three day Crucible 💪

He has a stress fracture in his leg. He injured it on the first day of the Crucible but wouldn’t give up! He hiked over 40 miles with a fractured leg!!
Oh no! He has to go back to PI for a few weeks until he is fully healed to move on to MCT. He can walk without the crutches but he needs to use them so he can heal faster.

The only memory I have of graduation day. Is I had no visitors my uniform was over sized my cover was to big I got far away from the celebration went to barracks change in to my fatigues had to have every thing altered thanks to the civilian s that did it felt like shit but l made through

How did he get injured
He is not really sure. IT happened on the first day of the Crucible and they were doing so much in one day he can't pinpoint exactly what happened. he has a stress fracture in his tibia.
When did they start family day??? must have been sometime after 1979, no such thing when I was there. But things change a lot.
Family day is the day before they graduate boot camp!
Not sure when it exactly it started but in '94 it was the Monday before graduation. It's now the day before.
It never stops. You will with this scare your whole life until deployments
