6:40 Seeing gankers parry spam gave me flashbacks from when I first learned to parry back in DS1. Once I got it, I tried to spam it everywhere to one shot everything. Though I paid the price when my brain shutdown trying to parry manus staff dark bead.
@@shelledferret5844 That's fine, but it's better to practice on enemies first. When I learned to parry in DS1 I praticed on sword type enemies since they are the easiest. Then I moved to spear types and halberds. Get a feel for each weapon's animations and time the parry.
At. Like 8:20 you wonder yourself what kind of parry this guy had , it was light blue and not carina retaliation. The parry is called Thops barrier I think I hope it helped you 😅
@@Emreakca- I used a Zweihander until I got a Grave scythe up to Fire Giant before joining the dark side and using duel Nagitanas. Now though I use duel rapiers because they are more fun to use and are also better than Nagitanas except for the fact that they don't bleed.

After that fight I immediately respected and started using the glaive pretty soon after.
I love that the strategy for invasions is optimally: "Is there anything in the game that deals a shit ton of damage? Cool. Is it easy to dodge? Yes but that's fine because the people you're invading are actually dumber than the NPC's in this game."
It honestly makes me a bit sad. I had so many cool dynamic fights against ganks in DS3, but in this game it's "bring something that can one-shot everyone or you die". I'm already so bored.

Wave of Gold dodge timings carrying based on the host might be related to it using the hosts view of map terrain so that it properly follows height mapping. And because it’s the hosts world, it may be defaulting to them to get it properly. That’s just a guess though, since Waves of Gold seems to traverse the different levels of terrain fairly good, unlike some other wave based attacks.
I think It desync because of the lagging of connection which every from software games have and also the internet connection of players. Like sometime people just teleporting on your screen, or they take no damage from your hit, and take those damage after few seconds
I'm so glad this is being talked about now, even though exposure will probably weaken its surprise factor. I always carry this when I first invade in, because if hosts are standing on your spawn-in and try to greed it's a super free punish
12:30 isn't a bug, it's flinching and it makes playing colossals extremely annoying unless you have a lot of poise. it could work in your favour though. if you miss an attack you can be flinched while the hitbox of your weapon is still active and hit someone that walks into your flinched weapon
I feel like the "golden land" ash of war is also really good for ganks and 1v1s aswell. Infinite hyper armor and the holy bullets protect you even if you whiff
just dueled a guy yesterday with golden land, it’s a little scary the first time you see it. ends up being punishable on startup tho once the novelty wears off.
@@dann5295 I dont use it much but I don't think it is that easy to punnish (in duel at least). because after the blast you can follow with an attack, the blast and attack does really high poise damage and you have hyper armor in the mean time. If enemy jump attack early, they get hit by the blast, if they jump late, they get hit by the follow up, and after the follow up you can roll. It is not like something only hit the ground like some of the earth shaker aow or wave of darkness
and personally, If I use golden land, I'll never use it from a far for the projectiles only. I'll use its hyper armor to trade hit. And for gank squad, I don't know if this aow is useful
The running joke that Thops is kinda the school idiot (or at least not the brightest student) is one of my favorite things about Liurnia. It's not enough that they basically gave him the age old story of "I stepped out to get the mail, the door swung shut behind me and my keys are on the counter"; they also gave him the usual self-deprecating village idiot personality. But then my favorite part: He spends all this time, pours his life into working on his amazing sorcery. Literally works himself to death creating a sorcery to dispel all sorceries, to prove himself to the Academy that he truly is one of the greatest mages of our time. And his greatest creation is literally something the Carians already use, but worse. His eponymous sorcery is Carian Retaliation without the retaliation. Something the Carians created to defend themselves in case the academy attacked.
Except that the flavor text for the barrier says it's a revolutionary new technique and future generations will venerate him, which... seems wrong given the comparison to Retaliation.

Hey, old comment I know but I remember hearing that he was trying to prove that incantations and sorcery could be of the same origin. I thought it was an interesting thing but I cannot remember what there was to prove it. Also it can deflect the final boss's Elden Stars
The light blue parry might have been thops' barrier, a spell you can get from a scarab after finishing thops' quest with the second academy key. It's a more defensive oriented magic deflect than retaliation since it's a larger window and hitbox I think and it blocks multihit spells.
I’ve come up against this in a few duels and I’ve rolled out of the second part a few times. Seems There’s a few frames between the first two moves where you can move back slightly and roll out of the AOE
Pretty good connections generally (I get to finish my invasions, haven't been fog walled yet) I've rolled out of BFT, and phantoms have rolled out of mine. If you catch them on the edge of the tornado, they can roll before you slam down
1:10 i swear i have not gotten a single functioning shield break riposte cuz the window is so small now and i think what happens then is that they roll just as u start the animation but they still get stuck in the animation but dont take dmg
8:00 That's the ash of war version of Thopps barrier I think. It's parry frames are inferior to carian retaliation and the golden parry, so I don't think there's much reason to use it.
been running into a lot of dudes and summons with the Wave of Gold sword at 125/137 and its so stupid. Not even just the desync is annoying but also its completely stupid range and it completely blocks your vision. When trying to run away to get some space from gankers and they just spam it combined with the desync makes it so much harder to get away, especially if you aren’t in open field.
I've put a few hundred hours in the game and this stupid weapon art is the one that sealed it for me. Get called as a hunter in farum, find the invader who immediately presses L2 as he sees me, I lose 1500 out of 1900 hp without being able to roll, once the first one is done he presses L2 again and kills me... The imbalance in this game is so stupid.
The heavy weapon bug? Isn’t that just he broke your poise so your attack didn’t go through because his attack took priority over yours? He used an ash of war, if that hits in my opinion it should interrupt your jab with a halberd

I just got a sick idea how to make this work even better. Use the Ripple Crescent Halberd which scales with arcane which means that Soporific grease works with it and scales with it so you can get one or two shot sleeps and then use the black flame tornado on the same weapon.
like as an offhand? ripple halberd can't use blackflame tornado right so sleep + swap you'd have to do or some setup like that it'd be weird investment tho between faith and arcane

I've been hearing a lot of opinions on using flame and lightning infusions im both my builds are 125 a 60 dex and a 55 strength should I be using the infusions and not really worried about the rain debuff

Remember to use the physick: The one that boosts poise + the one that's converts elemental damage to hp. It makes it so that many heavy attacks don't interrupt you, the forced staggers will be interruptee though.

Maybe the Rotten Sword Insignia Talisman would be good for a 4th slot because you're hitting them like 5 times in a row. Not sure how much extra damage you'd get out of it.
If they nerf the range significantly, it'd technically become a worse version of washing pole with double slash + bloodflame buff, so there would be very little point of actually using it.
@@aadaaadasda9979 When something has been the most used ashe of war for the first 3 months of the game, nerfing it to the point of inferiority in a game filled with possibilities is not a bad thing. We see this all the time in mainstream pvp games. The meta is weakened to introduce new variety which eventually stales with meta to be weakened again. Games aren't about perfect balance when theyre filled with options, theyre about variety.
@@Nergigante killing one of not so many unique weapons off is always a bad thing. IMO they should nerf it through an universal bleed nerf + status buildup/procs during roll fix (if possible on current junky engine), and only then, if it's still too powerful, maybe try a slight range decrease and FP cost increase.

I think on a decent connection (less than 60ms) it shouldn’t be possible to roll out of.
yeah the only times ive noticed people get out is when they have 8 billion ping

No one levels vigor at those levels so I imagine it would still work

Yes. Rain boosts lightning and reduces fire. Water pools also give lightning attacks/spells a spreading hurtbox.

it never doesnt one shot on a close range hit so i dont think its necessary

14:35 - I don't know why fromsoft hasn't nerfed river's range. It's honestly silly, and a huge reason why it's so braindead
If they nerf the range significantly, it'd technically become a worse version of washing pole with double slash + bloodflame buff, so there would be very little point of actually using it.
@@aadaaadasda9979 When something has been the most used ashe of war for the first 3 months of the game, nerfing it to the point of inferiority in a game filled with possibilities is not a bad thing.
We see this all the time in mainstream pvp games. The meta is weakened to introduce new variety which eventually stales with meta to be weakened again. Games aren't about perfect balance when theyre filled with options, theyre about variety.
@@Nergigante killing one of not so many unique weapons off is always a bad thing.
IMO they should nerf it through an universal bleed nerf + status buildup/procs during roll fix (if possible on current junky engine), and only then, if it's still too powerful, maybe try a slight range decrease and FP cost increase.
