I think the biggest point is respecting and knowing the culture you’re jumping into.
I believe in being able to jump genres but as an artist myself I’ve always made sure to learn at the very least the history of that genre I enjoy and want to make.
    Great video btw ty

What he’s saying about people who think it’s okay to put clout and success above all else. What happened to making music as a hobby, as a true passion. It goes along with midi packs, there are actual people who try to justify their use case, but if you’re willing to give up on the genre you love or you take the easy way out by using samples without post processing, using midi packs, or making music you’re not passionate about, it puts a bad taste in my mouth just like the entire social media culture. It’s built off of wrong intentions trying to appear as something else. This society has little integrity behind its actions anymore, everything’s a shallow cash grab or clout chase

Thank you for putting this together, I don't use Twitter so this is entertaining to say the least. 🍿
The gatekeeping is insane, and the dire need to "stay true to the roots" of dubstep is kind of sad.

    Really cool video!
I think poor decisions were made when it came to marketing, although it seemed like there were good intentions behind it (or at least lack of malice). To be clear, lack of malice doesn’t make things okay (I guess you can use Notlo as an example). I think it’s a case of Deadbeats goofing a little bit and causing a mess.
Jack had valid points, but he kinda lost me once he started rambling about what motivates producers. As someone that have dealt with aspiring producers, it was a bit confusing and disheartening. I understand some of what he believes stems from experience, but it doesn’t mean all producers should think like him. Let artists make art for whatever reason they want to! Same goes for the people that go to a show; they decide where their money goes.
Also, some of the internet trolls are much worse for the culture and community than what they’re making Grail Sounds to be. I swear every time I hear something related to EDM on Twitter, it’s nasty drama.
What drew me to the community was inclusivity, love, and support for artists. I hope to see more of that moving forward… We’re better than this

I listen to both "old" dubstep and the newer stuff and I'm in both communities. They didn't "revive" the genre. Biome and Ternion are some well known artists that have been doing it for AGES. It's cool to try and bring more people to the old school stuff though. I don't really understand the drama though. Stuff like this happens a lot I'm sure. I don't personally like the track but I can hear the inspiration in it. dubstep always had sampling. its not bad to sample things. with the duploc and r/realdubstep subreddit, from what ive seen from talking in there and reading posts, its more of like a family / community thing. the things they really care about is the culture, its not about money or being known with them, they support new artists well and give good feedback. I feel like the old school stuff has gotten a LOTTTT of hate from the newer genre's communities. The gatekeeping I think came from maybe that.
I've personally been attacked for saying I like old school dubstep in a riddim discord lol.

Yeah I can definitely understand both sides and they both have valid points and issues with eachother, I just think it's a bit ridiculous and overdramatic to harass an artist to this scale for making a song you didn't like
