Quiet Riot was really more like three big hits, and two were Slade covers. Slade had plenty of hits, so they really shouldn't be on the list. Blind Melon is unfortunate, great band, but only one big hit (No Rain), and a bunch of great songs that never became hits.
To call Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon a "one hit wonder" shows how little that the creators of this video know about music, or the impact that people and bands can have on music. Had Shannon not died then Blind Melon would have been massive, in much the same way that Mother Love Bone would have been had Andrew Wood not died.
simon boyland no it shows how little you know about music. The definition of a hit is generally considered singles that made the top 40 on Billboards Hot 100 list. Blind Melon had exactly ONE single that did that. No rain topped off at number 20, not impressive at all but still considered a hit. That is their only single that ever made the Billboard Hot 100 list. That is the epitome of a one hit wonder band. Yes you can say if this hadn't happened or this did happen things would have been different but that's not how it works and it has nothing to do with anybody's personal opinion of a band. It's black and white. How many singles made the top 40 on Billboards Hot 100. For Blind Melon that's exactly one and this they are the ultimate one hit wonder band.
Amen @simonboyland. The amount of talent that Shannon had was insane and if he had had a little more time on this earth, I think he would have written some monster hits. I guess BM could have been considered a one-hit-wonder but the fact of the matter is that Shannon's legacy has lived on the longest alongside Kevin DuBrow. That's what counts. Shannon is my favorite singer and I love Blind Melon with a passion.
Oh Steven, it shows how little you know my friend. 3 Charting singles in the top 50, pretty sure that is more than "one hit", 2 charting albums in the top 30, pretty sure again that isn't a "one hit wonder". As I said, had Shannon not died they would have been massive as would Mother Love Bone had been.
+simon boyland...So nice to see someone mention Andrew Wood. And, yeah, I agree it's unfair to call a band that was cut short due to a death a "one hit wonder." Moreover, that phrase is pretty derogatory, despite lots of highly influential singers technically falling into that category (i.e. Lou Reed).

"Lesser known band SLADE?!" Do some fcking research. For one, total up how many hits SLADE had in the U.K. when they were one of the biggest acts on the glam rock scene (glam rock, NOT glam metal -- glam rock included other "unknowns" like David Bowie and T. Rex and Roxy Music). Quiet Riot covered a classic Slade song, and that plus "Mama were all crazee now," another Slade song, gave Quiet Riot their only significant hits.
Tell me about it, lol. But then the bias will always be towards what's 'hot' on Billboard to the American audience, like fuck all exists outside the US, hahaha. Slade were fucking awesome.
Tell me about it, lol. But then the bias will always be towards what's 'hot' on Billboard to the American audience, like fuck all exists outside the US, hahaha. Slade were fucking awesome.
Nikki Swift, Quit Riot was NOT a One Hit Wonder Band. I am going to stop watching right here at #5 because Its clear you dont know the true definition of one hit wonder. Quit Riot?? Really, THUMBS DOWN
Slade wasn't a lesser known band, they're one of the most popular bands in British history. Their Christmas song is megaclassic over there. A lot of Americans don't know them because they weren't popular here for some reason.
In the summer of 1988, I was helping my friend's band in the studio. We got there early one day and there were these guys inside, making this crazy sampling song. We were all Metal kids so I never really listened to that music before and these guys were real nice. It was at Hillside Studios in Englewood, NJ. The studio is in Tony Bennett's son's house. It was Rob Base and EZ Rock. That song got VERY popular a few months after that.. EZ Rock was a good guy. RIP! Shannon Hoon is another terrible shame...
Cool video, BUT to say Quiet Riot (only) made it to #5 on the charts does kinda spit on the band. If you've ever been an artist (which I'm sure you haven't) you would know just how hard that mark is to get.
not these days. you can sell 50.000 in a couple of weeks you've probably got a number one or at least top 10 hit on your hands, 30 years ago you'd have to have sold millions.
When they say "lesser known" I think you have to take into consideration this generation. When Kanye West, Rhianna and Paul McCartney did that song together, there were people who LEGITMATELY thought Kanye had discovered Paul. A whole generation who know nothing about the Beatles. Kids today who think music from 2000-2010 is OLD SCHOOL.
Caroline Wright lmfao you do realise that's something called trolling. Those people leaving those comments on the vid were just making jokes or playing stupid to get reactions.
Uh ..NO! Those of us who listened to R&B music in '80s (primarily, BLACK people), know that his BIGGEST hit on the R&B charts was "THE WORD IS OUT", in 1984 - BEFORE "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off", in 1986 ..Shit, that song didn't, even, reach the top 50 on the R&B charts; whereas, "The Word Is Out" was in R&B's top 20, cuz that was the effin' SONG!
Yeah and he stood me up in England. My cousin knew him from the neighborhood in L.A. After he moved to England my cousin hooked me up with him to show me around. What I really wanted to do was meet his friend Boy George. Hey it was the 80s! Ended up meeting Boy George on my own.
Kevin Dubrow, the brother of the famous surgeon Terry Dubrow, who is a talented surgeon from the show "Botched" unfortunately died from a drug overdose. I grew up listening to Quiet Riot, they were so popular when I was a teenager, they were one of the many bands I loved back then, kin the 80's.
bassangler73 Obviously they're not very educated on this subject. Quiet Riot is not a one hit wonder or glam rock. Back then it was all just rock n roll. No stupid labels like they have today to cause infighting.
bassangler73 ok you were off by one with Quiet Riot. In the US they had 2 singles hit the top forty, the general definition of a hit. One hit number 5 and one hit number 31. That's it for singles. So technically they weren't a one hit wonder but they were about as close as you can be. Come on feel the noise hit number 5 on the Billboard top 100 and Bang your head hit 31. That's it. Nothing else in the top forty.
Simple. You take more cocaine than your body can handle and it causes harmful effects. How fucking stupid are you people? You're literally the third shit-for-brains mouth breather here I've had to explain what an overdose is.
The Artful Dodger there are people who take more than they can handle of drugs in order to commit suicide. Many die by accidentally taking too much. That is how that works, duh. You're obviously misunderstanding the meaning of accidental
I never understood why they say "accidental overdose", how do they know the guy didn't take bad stuff or a lot to kill themselves since their career was not what they hoped?
I think what happens is they take the GOOD STUFF and because they are use to the bad stuff, they overdose because the good stuff is more pure and takes less to get high. I learn this from a girl that use to work in the porn biz. When they people in the biz make it to the big time, the drugs get better (more pure) .
Lol accidental means they unknowingly took more than they could handle. Street drugs purity varies a lot so your normal dosage, if you buy purer stuff, might kill you as it will have stronger effects your body can't handle. You can't know how much cut something has without taking it to a laboratory to be analysed. A junkie ain't gonna do that for sure. Plus, in some cases, they start rehab then they go back to doing drugs and still on their normal dosage but their body's tolerance to the drug has dropped in the meantime and that causes an OD. .
Iman Wooden I agree these people were just barely one hitters, let alone ever very hot. I guess if these folks hadn't fucked up maybe they wouldn't just be dead, and the sheepel would have thrown them another bone... until they get bored again.
Lamefoot Ekul quiet riot had several hits on the hard rock chart (we're all crazy now, metal health). Shannon Hoon did co-vocals on Guns N Roses hit Don't Cry as well.
Mervyn McCaughey I know, every Xmas on Dr Who Slade is played. i'm in USA and know that riot redid a lot of their songs like ' mama we're all crazy now'.

Blind Melon was an awesome band..in the early 90's I was in highschool..and we all jammed to them. I have all of thier albums and went to see the new line up a few years ago. They rocked the house..but would have loved for it to have been Shannon. They came back out after show and hung out with a few of us..very down to earth guys. Never forget that night! ✌
I'm guessing this is about 'one-hit wonders' from a US perspective? Because I can assure you that Slade are certainly not a 'lesser-known' band than Quiet Riot in the UK; Slade are one of the top 100 chart acts in the UK.
Because his band only had one commercially successful song, yes. An album being quality doesn’t change the fact No Rain was their only significant airplay.
I didn't know that Scatman John was dead until one day I was telling my young cousins about this crazy song from the 1990's called Scatman. I decided to Google him and saw that he had passed.
I had no idea about Cali Swag District (CSD) two guys passing away. I'm so bummed, I rock their CD in my truck every day, kept wondering why they weren't making more albums. I'm so sad about this. RIP to them and condolences to their loved ones. So many young people dying now I find this out! I'm hurt! should have known! 💜
Jermaine Stewart wasn't a one hit wonder to the R&B World. He had songs to chart on the R&B, Dance, Top 100, UK and other European Charts. The dude was all over the Soul Train and American Bandstand.
Thank you for this video I enjoyed the trip down memory lane but so sad to hear about the loss of these young people. And of course the older ones. The senseless shootings and the drug overdoses terrible. And preventable.
The problem with this video is that it speaks to a lot of the problems black R&B, soul, and Hip-Hop artists have complained about for decades. Jermaine Stewart and DJ Easy Rock and Rob Base might only have a had moderate success on the mainstream music charts, however they weren't mainstream artists and had success on the black music charts.

Any which way Quiet Riot were no one hit wonders.
Tell me about it, lol. But then the bias will always be towards what's 'hot' on Billboard to the American audience, like fuck all exists outside the US, hahaha. Slade were fucking awesome.

Insert joke about the earth rotating around America here >>>>
Slade was never a popular band here, sorry to say. They are lesser known in the US.
Charles from Charles & Eddie passed away in 2001. Seriously. Would I lie to you?
Nikki Swift, Quit Riot was NOT a One Hit Wonder Band. I am going to stop watching right here at #5 because Its clear you dont know the true definition of one hit wonder. Quit Riot?? Really, THUMBS DOWN
Shawn Caughey Quiet Riot?
Thumps up for the thumps down.
Totally agree, Probably Nikki was not an eighties head banger. Too much rap and hip hop, too little metal these are indeed the last days.....
either way they suck ass
I'm pretty sure Nikki can't read above the fourth grade level. What a tool.
Slade wasn't a lesser known band, they're one of the most popular bands in British history. Their Christmas song is megaclassic over there. A lot of Americans don't know them because they weren't popular here for some reason.
Wow I didn't know D.J. Rock was gone. Rest in Paradise all of you
Yes. He died last year
man i miss Shannon Hoon.BLIND MELON WAS THE SHHIITT!!
Dan Seth agreed, and I would argue they were certainly not one hit wonders. Change, tones of home and Toes across the floor were some of my favorites
dont forget walk..
And don't forget Holyman n The Pusher
WhiteDwarfVR4 great songs, but not hit songs. That’s the difference here.
They did hit the chart again with "Mental Health (Bang Your Head)" didn't they?
SuperDriven1 Quiet Riot will go down in history as the first Heavy Metal band to hit number one in 1983. Get your facts straight first.
Guerrilla Thrilla Metal Health was the name of the album and first song on the album. Not "Mental Health." Unreal.
so TRUE! Quiot Riot are NOT one hit wonders!
How sad that so many great celebrities have passed away. What's even worse, is how many have died due to drugs. R.I.P.
They are not forgotten. They became apart of all of us✊🏿
When they say "lesser known" I think you have to take into consideration this generation. When Kanye West, Rhianna and Paul McCartney did that song together, there were people who LEGITMATELY thought Kanye had discovered Paul. A whole generation who know nothing about the Beatles. Kids today who think music from 2000-2010 is OLD SCHOOL.
Agreed. Several times I've had to explain that the meatloaf in the movie 'Sausage Party' is in fact a performer named Meatloaf!
Caroline Wright .. LoL I remember my nephew telling me about MJ's song SaySaySay..with a new singer Paul McCarty..!
John Jones it's not just young people. I know an IRL Janie Jones, a middle aged woman who never heard of the Clash until I mentioned it to her.
Caroline Wright lmfao you do realise that's something called trolling. Those people leaving those comments on the vid were just making jokes or playing stupid to get reactions.
Caroline Wright Yep, preach. I know who Slade is and a ton of their stuff
And I prefer them to Quiet Riot
Jermaine Stewart wasn't a one hit wonder.
He definitely was. I didn't know he was dead, but my first guess was AIDS. Nailed it.
No, he wasn't. He did have two Top 40 hits, the other being "Say It Again" , which charted to #27.
The w0rd is out...by js
Yeah and he stood me up in England. My cousin knew him from the neighborhood in L.A.
After he moved to England my cousin hooked me up with him to show me around. What I really wanted to do was meet his friend Boy George. Hey it was the 80s! Ended up meeting Boy George on my own.
Quiet Riot was hardly a one hit wonder band and calling Slade a lesser known band is ridiculous.
lilnorthnchick 71 Uhm they’re know and their biggest hit was come on feel the noise was all they did! Metal health wasn’t all that big
Shannon Hoon was probably one of the most underated singers for that time period.
I like your channel but its unfair to call Quiot Riot a one hit wonder
bassangler73 can't belive metal health wasn't a hit?
bassangler73 Obviously they're not very educated on this subject.
I was just about to put that. Slade had many hit singles, while Quiet Riot had theirs, using a Slade hit!
Yes, although the one song made them popular, they were not a one hit wonder, this group is responsible for my love of Rock music.....
You forgot Falco and Baltimora. Look them up..
Accidental cocaine overdose? How does that work?
Not all these were one hit wonders. A song doesn't have to make it to the top 5 to be a hit.
RIP to all the artistes here. I used to listen to all of them. RIP EZ Rock.
Quiet Riot was not a one hit wonder group. Redo the video!
He accidentally rolled up a c note and proceeded to accidentally pack his skull full of coke until his heart accidetally exploded.
Plus, in some cases, they start rehab then they go back to doing drugs and still on their normal dosage but their body's tolerance to the drug has dropped in the meantime and that causes an OD. .
I like the Quiet Riot cover of the lesser known Slade. Slade were huge in UK in the 70's. Hardly anyone would have heard of Quiet Riot in the UK.
Well you were right. I had no idea these guys were dead.... or alive, for that matter.
some of these, I really wouldn't call one hit hot wonders....
CamaroAmx You're right I was definetly unfair. They all had their time, and place that is why we are watching this video, lol.
Sadly they all died when their careers were in a slump or their stardom was fading.
Lesser known band Slade???? Not in the UK
Mervyn McCaughey I know, every Xmas on Dr Who Slade is played. i'm in USA and know that riot redid a lot of their songs like ' mama we're all crazy now'.
Or Australia. Quiet Riot are basically a Slade cover band.
Mervyn - so true. I love Slade, never heard of Quiet Riot. Lesser known band indeed; this woman is an idiot.
Blowing Free :- to be fair the stupid bitch didn’t write this load of old Bollocks, she was just shipped in to do a commentary to a video she knows nothing about.
Still have "Slayed" and still love it! {I'm in the U.S.}
What is consider a "one-hit wonder?" Rob Base and DJ Easy Rock had other hits.
POV u searched “peanut butter jelly time singer death” and found dis
DJ EZ Rock died not Rob Base, get it right, and they weren’t a 1 Hit Wonder, they had Joy and Pain also that was a hit.
I saw Shannon in the thumbnail and I just had to say something--Blind Melon is not a "One-hit wonder".
Quiet Riot was not glam rock...they were METAL
May they rest in peace, but drug overdoses are not accidental.
Uh what? He took too much coke by accident lmao. These comments really show how dumb people are.
@@itszombies7256 U twat ur a real Zombie who misunderstand real people comments! Charlie B is blaming deliberate overdosing and ur here talking crap while agreeing on exact same- useless trash talk!
There's no such thing as an accidental cocaine overdose😂😂😂😂😂
Get the facts right and then properly title this video SMDH
"Accidental" overdose .... as opposed to???
Irma Gherd a pre meditated suicidal overdose.
I'm guessing this is about 'one-hit wonders' from a US perspective? Because I can assure you that Slade are certainly not a 'lesser-known' band than Quiet Riot in the UK; Slade are one of the top 100 chart acts in the UK.
Sad video. Unfortunately tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
The first one struck me like a bat and ball... wow!
Blind Mellon,no rain ,soup ,ton of home ,galaxy, its to bad they would have been great?
They were great !
Don't forget Change. Blind Melon were fucking amazing!
ThisRebirth And 'Toes across the floor' .
NOT a ONE HIT WONDER at all! Just because "No Rain" was their BIGGEST hit doesn't mean it was their ONLY hit!
Sandra Lynn it was their only significant airplay, that makes them a one hit wonder. They were awesome, but they only had one big hit song.
Um REALLY?! Shannon Hoon is a ONE hit wonder?! BYE.
Cleo Sanders lol I’ve never heard of them
Because his band only had one commercially successful song, yes. An album being quality doesn’t change the fact No Rain was their only significant airplay.
What about Change, or Tones of Home, or Galaxie?
Owen Harris not hits. Sorry. Doesn’t mean fans of the band can’t enjoy the songs, but they’re not hits.
Has to be a hit on the charts
Gotta few here that aren't one hit wonders
ALF CARJACKS THE CLOWN .. yes, all of them!
Never heard of any of them except Quiet Riot. After my time.
i like this musicvideo its nice and clear well directed looks like you used the same cam as i did to make my video
I love the 80's and 90's! .💜. 🎵Music was the 💩 back in the days. 💯
"Lesser known band Slade" Really??? And Blind Melon are far from one hit wonders.
I didn't know that Scatman John was dead until one day I was telling my young cousins about this crazy song from the 1990's called Scatman. I decided to Google him and saw that he had passed.
Scatman John should be on this list.
Wow crazy thanks for the video
I had no idea about Cali Swag District (CSD) two guys passing away. I'm so bummed, I rock their CD in my truck every day, kept wondering why they weren't making more albums. I'm so sad about this. RIP to them and condolences to their loved ones. So many young people dying now I find this out! I'm hurt! should have known! 💜
I'm sure you're confusing Rob Base with his dj
"Lesser known band Slade". Lol. Mmmkay.
Jermaine Stewart wasn't a one hit wonder to the R&B World. He had songs to chart on the R&B, Dance, Top 100, UK and other European Charts. The dude was all over the Soul Train and American Bandstand.
Oh I love Quite Riot!
REALLY!!! Shannon Hoon a one hit wonder....first time I ever heard that! He was amazing...all his work
Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot must of had a hair transplant in his latter years , Quiet Riot had 2 billboard top 40 hits
That's what I was thinking too or either he's wearing a wig.
Wig
Why they keep saying a accidental drug over dose... NO they died from drugs it was done knowing what could happen smh!!
All kind of mistakes! Even the article about Magic Johnson n Jermaine Stewart used “form” and not “from”.
A lot of these aren't one hit wonders.
"One hit wonders you didnt know were dead" Well no shit lol
Damn that's when coke was actually good!
THANKS💖
