@Ms. Tucker According to your definition, Jesus and his followers in the first century, and according to the Jews/Pharisees/Sadducees, were a cult. However, the cult(s) sprung from first century True Christians (although there were some still upholding Gods name and Jesus til their deaths into the second and even third centuries [though True Christianity was getting smaller and smaller]) and became a huge religion, and centuries later another huge religion sprung in Germany. Daniel 12:7-12 (focus on :9 for now) makes it clear the Truth about Gods Kingdom would be made known in the last days. If it wasn't for Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs), just about all, if not all, Abrahamic religions would be saying "God works in mysterious ways." JWs calculated from Daniel and other Bible books that 1914 would mark the time when Jesus would become King in heaven-- Revelation 12:7-12 was fulfilled that year and/or started to be fulfilled that year. Even in sin, because we all sin and make mistakes, they are Gods chosen people and that is the most obvious thing to any honest person. Matthew 13:41-44 describes false religions behavior towards JWs, in that they will hate Gods people and display it with their "weeping and gnashing of their teeth." Gods Word describes JW's as Gods people in :44 as they are the only ones who sacrifice so much of their personal time, many hours per day, many days per week, yearly. JW's are the only ones fulfilling Matthew 28:19, 20 and Matthew 24:14. You can dislike or hate them as you wish, but the Truth is, it wont matter in the end. God assures them that "there are more with us than against us." JW's will have the millions of angels on their side, Jesus Christ, and God All Mighty. The Great Tribulation is coming, and only Gods chosen will make it through into a paradise Earth. Again. yes, JW's sin, make mistakes, as sure as first century Christians (apostles and disciples) did, and as sure as ancient prophets did (but God assures us they are beloved by Him and will be resurrected), but they fix their errors just as Gods Word shows first century Christians and ancient prophets did. Evidence shows anyone is free to become a JW, and free to leave if they want. Everyone knows this. They are the only ones who make it clear Jesus's words about "anyone who wants to follow me must pick up their torture steak" and all too clear that Jesus and God must be loved first: "I came, not with peace, but with a sword. I came to cause division between father and son, mother and daughter..." You can fight against these facts and truths, but this wont matter when The Great Tribulation comes and Armageddon finishes it all up. I took time to tell you all this because I love people. It hurts me seeing the greater masses not wanting Jehovah in their lives. Gods name is of most importance, too, as Jesus said: "I have made your name known" (John 17:26; John 17:6). True Christians later after Jesus's death backed up Jesus at Acts 15:14-18. Gods name was removed from the Christian Greek Scriptures by false christians, and from the Hebrew Scriptures, too. Peace to you.

My cousin was born on this exact day and year.
So chilling just watching the ecstatic applause, knowing within a day or two most of them would be dead, lying face down--right where they had been standing and feverishly clapping. An eerie 180 degree turn of events.
If I had been one of the visitors, I would have secretly reassured the 15 or so who voiced concern and wanted to leave to just hang tight. That they would report what was going on and would return immediately with reinforcements (meaning the military).
If it had been me, I wouldn't have questioned Jim Jones about his methods and about the ones who were wanting to leave.
We will never know, even if they had done just that, the result could have still been the same. But, it is just not good in any dangerous situation to let an abusive partner or spouse, cult leader, kidnapper, etc., know about your plan of escape. Being extremely stealth about it is the only sure means of survival.
There is an audio here on TH-cam of the children being forced to drink the cyanide. There are no words.😢

November 1978 is a month that the people of San Francisco just as soon forget. In just nine days there was the Leo Ryan killings, then the Jonestown massacre (which many were from San Francisco) and then the George Moscone/Harvey Milk assassinations on the 27th. I remember seeing Jackie's picture in the paper and I though how such a pretty young woman could be shot and nearly dying. So glad she survived.

Out of the 918 deaths, *300* were children. That means the parents of 300 children either fed them or injected them with lethal poison. I’m sure most of those kids were loved, but mind control can be such an incredibly powerful thing. It can make you say & do things you could never imagine yourself doing and it often starts with one little step at a time. It’s commonly said, “people don’t join cults” meaning they don’t usually knowingly join a cult. They think it’s a legitimate religion, faith, religious, political or self improvement type belief system. Cults don’t tell you all the scary & extreme stuff at first because if they did most people would run away immediately. They lull you into a false sense of safety & security & either tear down or over inflate your ego. Destructive, harmful cults can pretend to be religions, spiritual/healing centers, self help workshops, political activists, grassroots movements or even charities. Even the less deadly cults can still cause a great deal of harm to you & your loved ones. Just remember something, if you’re never allowed to question leadership or question & disagree with certain beliefs then you should really reevaluate if that’s the place you want to be. Any group that truly means you no harm will welcome questions & opposing views (whether you’re new to it or a lifelong member). There is psychological & financial help out there for cult survivors you just have to look online. If someone you love is in a destructive cult one of the most important things you can do is try your best to maintain positive contact. Don’t berate or belittle them. Don’t argue & fight. Remind them of the good times they had outside of the cult if you can. Ask them lots of questions & encourage their inquisitive side. It’s important to get the gears of their critical mind going again. 🧡
