I loved the runner on his own, but then you threw in the bus stop, the falling leaves, the running cat, the cobblestones, and suddenly it took on an almost Rockwell whimsy which is amusing and engaging. Context is everything.
Adding the cat and the stone road definitely made the drawing complete. At first, it looked like the model was run on thin air, but adding the other parts gives it motion and context.
I like that you let your artwork take you where it wanted to go. And if that was to add more detail...then YES! I think the best art comes when we "go with the flow" and see where it takes us.😀
Excellent picture ! I always add something to compliment my subject in my paintings and illustrations. As you said, it tells a story. Makes the picture intriguing and is tremendous fun to create ! Please do add fun little touches to your sketchwork! Anyhoo, got to get back to the chores. Have a fantastic day one and all!
with the background, it feels less static! And it begins to tell a story. See, whenever Im surfing social media, the first thing that draws me to other artists' art/ sketches, is non solitary images. Solitary sketches feel so detached and boring but as soon as i see a page full of interlinked and communicating sketches, I feel so pleased. Anyway, it is also how I do mine so maybe i am a bit biased
I thought 0.1 was always too thick for me so I favored the .05 and only used the .1 for darker areas. But recently I have been using the .1 more and varying the pressure helps to make some interesting lines.
I use Pitt Pens all the time and absolutely love them. Really enjoyed this video and the way you built up your sketch. I think including the context of the scene adds depth.
You asked for feedback even tho it’s a year ago, I thought I’d add my two pennorth: I very much like the background you added. Adding a story to the figures brings it to life SO much. You are very talented. I’m hoping some of it will rub off on me☺️
This is great and inspiring. The cat, leaves and bus top sign give it more of a 3D quality. Really cool thanks for sharing and explaining your use of pens. Very helpful and good food for thought Scottie.
I really like the extra elements that provide the context! Sometime ago, I ordered a 0.005 micron fine liner. I didn’t use it for a long time, but now I find it useful, as you have described, for getting lighter shading, fine details and also when working with softer papers where the line tends to expand a bit. Also, you can get really small dots that work well for texture.
I think either way is good. It's good to just do what you feel in the moment. I have some unipin fine liners where there's a 0.03, which is great for starting a sketch. Having said that, I love using an old fountain pen for quick sketches where I have limited control, its really freeing and so satisfying when they turn out well. All the best.
It's like the sketch evolved from a pose study to a story once you added in those extra elements in the background. I imagined a kid and random cat chasing after a bus he missed for school
as a beginner I actually love fineliners and pens in general because mistakes stay and it creates a rough, very scratchy look that's often quite special.
The color of the clothes are great because they are balanced. It would be great to see it with a water color. That amount of background details are just enough and not too crowded. The leaves detail makes it look like there are trees around the area.
I wouldn't add anything else on the background, just the guy, a very plain floor, and all the cast shadows related. Love your channel. Your drawings are amazing!!!
I really love minimalism but the dynamic definitely changed with the extra elements. I think that it would depend on what you’re trying to convey. The negative space was interesting like a body in motion in infinite space, but again It depends. I think they are both outstanding.
Amazing work! I really like your style. It is unique and really cool looking. I really liked what you added with the cat and background. Gorgeous. I agree. I've found even for my handwriting, a fine tip helps me write much neater and more accurately. It doesn't seem like it would make a difference but it does! This is the first video I've seen by you. You just got a new subscriber. Can't wait to be inspired by more!
The figure in itself is good and gives a study feel, but with the other elements it makes it into a story. Both are goods, depends on what you want to convey. Thanks for the video and awesome art
great point. Im finding not much is really known or shared about fine liners and how to draw with them.. many books dont cover aspects like this also Inking with varying washes of ink is also a bit of a mystery also.. I have been doing alot of research on these things for a year or two.. great point about the different sizes.. I use micron pens so I can get down to .003, .005. and work up as high as 08. nice to see others working a "process".. love your work an your videos.
Hey! I love your warm gentle voice. It’s calming while trying to learn a new skill. You’re a Great artist and teacher. Thanks for investing into other peoples lives by taking time out for making these videos. I prefer you adding other objects. That gives us more creative ideas. I would like to say you did a FINE job on this video of drawing with FINE pens!😆 Blessings!😊
Yeah they take a bit to get used to but once you get it they are great. I like the Micro pens, but I will try to find these and give them a go. Thanks for posting.
I'd leave it up to your creativity, what vibe you getting from the picture or your mood of the day. I took from this video the vibe you got from it was a " rushing to get somewhere quick kinda vibe" 🤷♂️. I liked it cos at the same time I'm picking up tips from you. Preciate it friend.
I like the Micron fineliners and the Copic fineliners myself! 05 and 08 work well for 5in. To 9in. Image's....and allow for a bolder line especially well for a cartoon or anime artwork! I also like switching up sizes on different lines to ad variation and depth to the image😊
Thank you, thank you for your wonderful tips and subject choices! I’m learning sooo much! It’s great watching your artwork develop as it goes! So blessed to have found you! Blessings to you and yours! Merry Christmas!😁🎄
Personally, I like the stories your sketches tell us! That’s part of the beauty of art, no matter what kind of art. It takes you away! You’ve got that creative artistic style! Keep doing what you do!
Absolutely loved it🤍 watching you draw makes me excited go out and practice for myself too. I love the characters you have with your lines, every stroke seems to be drawn with confidence, like you already see the drawing in the paper even when it was still blank, and you're just tracing along the image you already have in your head. Thank you for providing all these contents! Question from me: how do you feel about real-life urban sketching, as in going out and drawing on the spot out in public? I like doing it but I still find myself unconsciously rushing and getting nervous, or just not drawing fast enough to catch the moment I want. Would be interesting to hear your experience!
Glad this has motivated you to get into sketching! I love the idea of urban sketching. I know what you mean, I'm just starting out sketching outside and yea I definitely felt I was rushing and my hand wasn't as steady as usual. I also have to get used to sitting or standing without a desk. But it was also great to be outside and capturing people in natural poses. I found that if I sat in an area with lots of benches I could find someone sitting to sketch long enough before they left haha. I'll share a video soon about my experience urban sketching too.
Personally I really liked when you had just the boy and the cat. It let my imagination kind of fill in the rest of the space and come up with a story. Either way, incredible sketch!!
My favorite fineliner has to be the LePen 0.03 size. It's unreasonably thin - and that's why I love it. It's reasonable for me and the details I like to etch in. I've never actually considered this sketching though, since mygoal was to be a traditional illustrator - and we haven't been huge....proponents of color usage if you catch my drift
Sketching well still looks like magic when it works out. Everyone bangs on about getting the “art fundamentals” right to make sure a sketch really looks good and works. I think the wash is fine here and doesn’t take away from the overall effectiveness. Can you say what the fundamentals are for this sketch that make it work so well? I guess scale/persoective and shadows/highlights and leaving enough out of the detail to allow the mind to fill in the blanks. What else? These videos are great I find and I can really take away a lot from them. I also notice you stop and check them keep going without lifting your pen, I guess the pen and the paper factor into why stopping doesn’t bleed into the paper?
Incredible line work! Maybe when adding more elements, then raise the contrast of line weights to draw focus, or more contrasting values with shadows to give more depth. The elements all work very well together, but hold the same or similar light values.
I feel like it was better without the gray wash as there was a great contrast. The drawing was literally popping but I enjoyed the sketch! Really well done!
Running man is great, cat is great, leaves are great and middle wash line is good. Floor distracts the eye and takes away from the very good details on the main subjects. Some speed lines on the floor would've worked better I think, if you're adamant on having a floor plane. Either way, good stuff!
I loved the runner on his own, but then you threw in the bus stop, the falling leaves, the running cat, the cobblestones, and suddenly it took on an almost Rockwell whimsy which is amusing and engaging. Context is everything.
Absolutely has the Rockwell whimsicalness....
Loved this!!! 🎉
Yeah, I can feel the emotion coming off the paper. Happy boy and his cat 🥰
😊
inspiring!
Adding the cat and the stone road definitely made the drawing complete. At first, it looked like the model was run on thin air, but adding the other parts gives it motion and context.
Thanks for the feedback Kevin!!
I love the added details! Esp the running cat! Who runs with a cat? 😂 Great choice and beautiful work Scottie ❤
@@mollygilfillan6551
Well I used to walk with my cat...see a dog 🐕 you start running 😂
I love how precise your lines are without using your wrists
wow I love you added a cat and the sign. Now the whole sketch really tells a story!
Thanks I'm glad you liked the story! Trying to work out how to add these type of things😊
I like that you let your artwork take you where it wanted to go. And if that was to add more detail...then YES! I think the best art comes when we "go with the flow" and see where it takes us.😀

I really love your sketch with fine liner. I think you should keep it like this without adding nothing . Your really inspiring!
thanks, appreciate it Ismael! great to hear your feedback🙌🏼
I love all the added elements. It makes the sketch some to life.
I thought 0.1 was always too thick for me so I favored the .05 and only used the .1 for darker areas. But recently I have been using the .1 more and varying the pressure helps to make some interesting lines.

Yes, adding the extra elements is great it turns you're study into you're own work with your pen/ink wash style.

adding more to the drawing i feel gives it a small story . great work !
adding the other stuff definitely made it more interesting and added a story. felt way more immersive with the other things added!
Adding the other elements was a great idea. I like sketches that depict a scene the way your final sketch does. Really well done!
The additions are great , particularly the cat running along side.
all those elements make a great composition thanks
Gorgeous work! Not a line out of place and the proportions are spot on! I'm now subscribed and enjoying your content.
It's like the sketch evolved from a pose study to a story once you added in those extra elements in the background. I imagined a kid and random cat chasing after a bus he missed for school
imo every detail you added improved the drawing and turned it from just a sketch of a guy running to a whole vignette
Thanks Nicholas, yea I think this idea is something I want to work on keeping for future sketches!
I think adding backgrounds to your sketches adds to the story. it makes looking at the sketch more pleasing.
Thanks Alberto! That's good to hear👍🏼
as a beginner I actually love fineliners and pens in general because mistakes stay and it creates a rough, very scratchy look that's often quite special.
I like it with the extra components
I love the added details! It brings life to the image

I respect your time and dedication
I'm in love with your inking style! 😍
I think I did like it better without the wash but that's just me. It still looks fantastic!
Amazing work! I really like your style. It is unique and really cool looking. I really liked what you added with the cat and background. Gorgeous. I agree. Thanks a lot of the support 🤗🙌🏼 Appreciate it!

I liked the figure running by itself.
Just the figure for my tastes. Well done
Fabulous sketch Scottie, that’s where I want to be! Soon!
It's pleasure to watch you video with your explanation. Beautiful flow of lines with way of working on shadow. I like your style.

The additional elements move it from a sketch to an illustration! 😻

I like what you added! It really took it to the next level.

The drawing was fab on its own, but adding context gave it a narrative. Really cool Scottie!
Thanks Allie!
Simple tip but yes very true!! love the setting you've put the sketch in
Just beautiful! Wow!
Love the addition of the cat. Now I know why the boy is smiling!
Keep adding that was fun to watch.
Love the cat and sign. Thanks for the great video and tip
I have only just found your channel, you have a very calming manner, thanks for a great video….big hello from Queensland 😊
welcome Melita! thanks for watching🤗 good to see a fellow Aussie! 🙌🏼

a thin line is a game changer, i started using a 003 fine liner and omg
🙌🏼yea so good, I would like to try brand too
I love the last result ⭐
It definitely added more to have the extra background as if telling a story
Thank you, thank you for your wonderful tips and subject choices! I’m learning sooo much! It’s great watching your artwork develop as it goes! So blessed to have found you! Blessings to you and yours! Merry Christmas!😁🎄

Great! I like the background!
that was so satisfying to watch
The extras are great shows your skillset
Love the background for sure!
I like the complete and the figure by himself. I like the plain figure more but only slightly more.
Love it best with all the added elements.
I love your sketch either way.
Everything you do is spot on. Love it.
Love your sketches ❤
I tried this technique my art improved thank you!
That’s so good! 👍🏼

I love all that you added!!
Personally I really liked when you had just the boy and the cat. It let my imagination kind of fill in the rest of the space and come up with a story. Either way, incredible sketch!!
I have a few of these. Wonderful devices!
Amazing work sir, can you give a tip on how to be precise with strokes are there specific exercises or is it just talent difference
You did an excellent job on this piece, it’s perfect.
🤩 Aww, what a fantastic story! Can’t turn my eyes away )
Beautiful!

very useful for me🥰
this is soo good, i enjoyed every second 👏👏
I am seriously inspired by your videos my dude. Thank you
Amazing! Glad I found your channel
Did a fantastic job..... phenominal I must say!
Background is great !
I feel like it was better without the gray wash as there was a great contrast. The drawing was literally popping but I enjoyed the sketch! Really well done!
I can also draw pretty detailed ink sketches, but i need grids. How can i accuralty draw without grids. Please tell me.
*i love the additions too😀
This is really cool you captured the movement well!!
I liked it alot with the figure alone, but adding the cat and other background elements really made it better,
thanks for your thoughts Michael! appreciate it🤗

Looks Great. Nice work. Thanks for the info on the fine pen.
