I think making "healthy" choices on vacation is much easier when you approach activity as fun, and nutrition as delicious and supporting feeling good, as opposed to punishment or dieting. When I plan a vacation, I plan physical activities because I love the way I feel when I move, and because being an active person is part of my identity. I choose foods with plenty of fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, because I prefer to eat those, they are tasty and help me feel better! And hiking is one of my family's favorite exercises, and a great way to see any natural areas that are in your vacation spot. And we try, when we are booking a hotel, to find one that has a small gym. I don't use it every day, but it is a nice option for some alone time and to destress (sometimes vacationing with kids is super stressful). Basically, when you approach fitness as treating yourself like a pampered pet (plenty of walks and water and really high quality nutritious food, sounds like how I treat my puppy), as opposed to punishing yourself for getting out of shape, it is easier to incorporate that into vacations, because you won't feel the need for a vacation from that.
I went on a 3 week vacation for my wedding and honeymoon. I got in a ton of walking at national parks, city walking, and random hikes. I did completely set aside my usual workouts because I wanted to focus on the trip and time with my new husband. Now, I'm slowly building back up my routine. I usualy like some sort of formal workouts when I travel, but it just wasn't realistic for me to keep with any sort of routine on that trip.
One week of relaxation, enjoying the scenery and the food is nothing compared to the 51 other weeks of the year. Good thing I already have a balanced approach regarding fitness and health when we went to Thailand. My family and I walked a crapton (10k-15k everyday) and indulged in the cultural food for lunch, dinner, and snacks while still having a balanced meal during breakfast. I enjoyed it and by the time I got back into my routine, I got my first ever full push up!
Great tips! As a RDN I will have people tell me they get constipated (gross to talk about but true!) on vacation. Your advice about getting fiber at breakfast was spot on! (Also the walking helps!)
Working out started being a habit for me in college, but it was only in the last year or so that MOVEMENT started being a priority for me. I get in my workouts when I can, but getting movement is how I help my body feel its absolute best and of course I want to feel my best on vacation! That mindset shift has helped me so much and your videos have helped me find creative ways to make it happen.
I have to get some sort of movement in every day because it just makes me a more pleasant person to be around lol. Good tip about trying to bring food with you on vacation. You save $$$ too.
This was perfect! My sister and I are actually going to Denver, CO in a few weeks. We’re making it a road trip but we already have so much fun outdoor stuff planned-some easy hikes, walking ghost tours, etc. Since we’re driving, we’re going to have a cooler filled with granola, some fruit, etc that I can eat while there but also CO has a large plant-based community so I’m definitely looking forward to indulging on some vegan goodies too.
Hello justina just want to say that im so happy that i’ve discovered your channel. I really like your anti-fitness influencer no bullshit and science based approach to fitness😅. Your videos have taught me, a fitness/healty life style beginner a lot😁. Thank you for the amazing content✌🏻
My favorite vacation spot is Vegas and I walk EVERYWHERE. Plus the buffets. Let's eat some veg, some lean protein, and then hit the dessert bar. All things in moderation
I usually do a yearly trip to islands of adventure & universal at least once per year. I have a step goal on my Apple Watch and usually hit my goal by 10 am. 😆 I love to eat reasonable breakfast at hotel / Airbnb beforehand and enjoy eating whatever I feel like at the parks. I keep it semi healthy but also indulge on the fun stuff like ice cream 🤤 You’re making me want to go to boulder now! Looks so fun and beautiful. Which Marriott card do you have? 🤔 I’m really thinking about getting it. Thanks for the awesome video. Looks like you guys had an amazing time. ❤
