Chuck was a prefect example - if you work hard, persevere, and do your job, your day in the sun will happen. The Ice Bowl was his day in the sun. Iconic performance in brutally tough conditions in perhaps the most iconic game in NFL history.

All Lombardi Teammates had respect and appreciation for this Yale Graduate...a great Packer Fullback!

Lombardi knew he was special in many ways and gifted intellectually coming from Yale. Mercein was tough as nails and
performed outstandingly well for the Packers. He's the only guy that can signal a TD lying down. That was a genius move, Yes?👍

Chuck Mercein produced that day ...in the Ice Bowl ! Without his runs, catches and runs-after-catches, the Bart Starr TD wouldn't have been set up. I was screaming at the TV when Chuck took over that game ! Great and lasting memory of my youth ! #30 forever !!

What a great Cinderella story!!! Chuck played one additional year in Green Bay (I think). He is absolutely right, he did come through.

One of the key players of the Ice Bowl win, was let go by the Giants.
But as Chuck said" If you hang in there, go through rough spots, keep trying and don't give up, good things happen."
His performance in the last minute drive is one for NFL history !

Chucks performance on that LAST DRIVE was immeasurable . To be trusted by all the greats of those Packer great teams and deliver when called upon has to be considered as a great team player . Those Packers of Lombardi stuck together as a TEAM and accomplished great things . Perhaps more players should remember that it's not all about your individual stats

Chuck was the right guy for that game. Not a hall of famer, just a player. He came out of nowhere and helped the Pack win it all.

Chuck Mercein was chosen by Lombardi in the first 1967 play off game against LA Rams. Mercein played very good. Then against the Cowboys, Chuck Mercein did what Lombardi chose him to do, help win the game.

+Stefano Genovese ----- Not True.... Not True.... Full-Back Chuck Mercein, was picked up by Lombardi's Green Bay Packers Mid-Season 1967, after Key Leg Injuries to Jim Grabowski (Knee) and Half Back Elijah Pitts ( Achilles Tendon). He was in Packers Green and Gold for the Nov 12th 1967 game against the Cleveland Browns where the Packers prevailed 55 to 7.
      1967 IN REVIEW
Despite numerous injuries and an average offense, the Green Bay Packers made NFL history, winning their third straight championship and second straight Super Bowl. The Packers made their history without Jim Taylor (who was traded to New Orleans) and Paul Hornung (who was selected by New Orleans in the expansion draft). FB Jim Grabowski (knee) and Elijah Pitts (torn Achilles tendon) could not last the season, forcing Vince Lombardi to start Chuck Mercein, Ben Wilson, Donny Anderson and Travis Williams at times. .

I love the one clip when the Packers are practicing and Lombardi is yelling "come on Mercein" who replies something and Lombardi bellows, "what do you mean you got it"? "You got it"!
I laugh my ass off when I see that!

Lombardi shafted him for Super Bowl 2 didn't let him start. I felt Chuck was MVP in the Ice Bowl. They wouldn't give him the ball when they close to the goal line on the last series of downs....they didn't "want" him get the TD. The Packers wanted Donny Anderson to get it because they paid him the most money. The after 2 tries with Andy, Starr kept it..........but called the play for Mercein to get it...... Poor Chuck........

    • @KWCline91
      @KWCline91 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It wasn't because they didn't want Mercein to have the ball. The conditions on the field weren't favorable for the running back to score. Starr decided to run it in on a gamble. I'm sure if you would've asked Mercein, he would've been proud to have played on a Super Bowl winning team. He did get one rush in the game. But it was for no gain.

You are a F ing Idiot. Chuck broke a blood vessel in his arm in the Ice Bowl , but nobody knew it because it was so Cold, there was No Swelling. So he was injured and could Not play in Super Bowl II. Starr capt the ball on the last play, even though the play call was Brown 3- 0. ( fullback thru the zero hole) because he was afraid of Chuck slipping on the Ice, and all Bart had to do was get in behind Kramer and Ken Bowman for the TD.
