- In this vlog we are going with the village kids out to the jungle to harvest and collect tarawau fruits.
It school holidays for the kids and Api came to me in the morning and asked if I wanted to come with him and other village kids who were planning to go out and harvest some tarawau fruits as it is tarawau season this time of the year.
This is something that the village kids do every year when it is tarawau season and they show us how to harvest and collect the tarawau and which tarawau are the best to eat and enjoy.

Don't get me wrong seeing this kids venture out into the woods or Plantation just show casing how knowledged understanding and culture is passed down to the up coming generation. This is SUCH a beautiful video. Watching the kids is a reminder that intelligence is a deep thing & that it exists outside of our constructs of the languages that folks have been taught to believe as being "proof" of it. Siyabonga Uraia (since I'm learning a few words in Fijian, I may as well teach you one word in Zulu...which means "we thank you"😊🥰). If I could like this video more than once, I definitely would!!

So very true regarding their traditional knowledge, m just impressed and very proud of them - at that young age. M confident that our traditional knowledge relating to the plants and trees is well preserved and passed on as usual to the younger generation.

We call Tarawau, Mon here in PNG. I love the fruit 😊 alot of hard work from the boys to get it, but can see they absolutely love & enjoy it all 🤩 looking forward to more adventures with the boys🤗☺

the abundance variety of fruits on the island of Ovalau. I grew up @ the Old Kapitol* & the 'tarawau' fruit is one of my favourite. After eating, the nut inside the seed can be eaten too. 😋 Vinaka Bro Ura - this clip reminds me of fond memories back in Levuka. #Good ah!

Always a fun time foraging with the kids during "stone fruit" season, and yeah being actually hit in the face by a tarawau or falling branch does come at a price for such rewards. 😅
