    Tweaking Oberheim Matrix-1000 (off camera, beneath the Evolver keyboard) in real time, using Behringer BCR-2000. Arpeggiator from Novation Super Bass Station, subtle fx from Ensoniq DP/2.
    This is very far from a full demo. I focused on tweaking the filter cutoff and resonance, the two envelope decays, oscillator 1 pitch and LFO rate at the end. This is about taking 15 minutes to just enjoy the vast versatility of the Matrix-1000 even when changing those few parameters, and how BCR-2000 can help give a hands-on control if you can't afford a specialized controller. It's an old synth, with a slow CPU, the tweaking should be slow, otherwise it lags as you will hear in a few moments. Subscribe to this channel, as I'm exploring the Matrix in depth and there might be more videos about it soon.

      Hopefully in a few months I'll have a full custom new bank!

    Hi great video! Can you tell me how you chain your midi? I have a Kiwi Patch Editor and I’m trying to figure out with only one midi in how to set both a controller and the editor at the same time. Thanks!

      Thanks! I use a pair of Motu Midi Express XT modules, one of them has USB, and also, the audio interface has midi in/out, so every controller and modules are talking to each other and with the computer via these Motu units. They mix all incoming signals and route them to the synths. I made a video describing my audio and midi setup, here it is th-cam.com/video/XjBZ5946io8/w-d-xo.html

      @@JobimSynthMusic Do you need the in and out from the matrix connected to your set up? I have my BCR hooked up via USB and my interface's midi out going to the matrix. It isn't working and im not sure why.

      @VigilanteWilliamson I don't think you would necessarily need to connect the matrix's midi out, but that's important to have a two way communication with the CTRLR software programmer, also for patch backup. so I have both ways connected. I think the matrix needs the sysex on the specific channel so that's one thing you should check. also make sure the matrix is running one of the third party firmwares, 1.16 or 1.20 . I'm not at the studio right now but I think the matrix shows a little dot on the display when it receives midi data so that should be a little help to check if it's getting the messages from the BCR. sorry for the late reply, hope you got it sorted by now but I'll leave the comment in case it might help someone out.

    Would do you recommend using Behringer BCR for Matrix?

    • @JobimSynthMusic
      @JobimSynthMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      absolutely. with the BCR next to the keyboard you can tweak parameters while programming and playing the keys. the only thing you can't edit with the BCR is the modulation matrix. I use a combination of the BCR because it's next to the keyboard, with the mouse for the modulation matrix (CTRLR free editor).

      @@JobimSynthMusic Thanks! But how do you set up sysex commands on BCR for Matrix
      ? Do you have Matrix template? Or just using learn function?

      @Drumsdude123 sorry for the late reply, I didn't get a notification. I got a template for BCR 2000 here github.com/christofmuc/bcr2000_for_oberheim_matrix1000

    Update the firmware chip and the parameters are controlled faster

      @@JobimSynthMusic Ok,might be worth trying a different firmware then,there's a few versions out there

      @colincampbell8178 I looked around and it seems the 1.20 has been the latest , most optimized version for some years. perhaps a Kiwi upgrade makes it work even better, but I'm not a big fan of heavy modifications like that. so I'm good with my vanilla Matrix for now.
