    Thanks so much for putting this up. This was one of my favorite recurring gags on the show, and really served to surrealistically separate this program from all others. A brilliant and underrated comedy.

    Eddie Albert joined the military after he had found success as an actor. In World War 2, he had saved several lives at the risk of his own.
    He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was discharged a short year later so that he would be able to accept an officer position in the Naval Reserve.
    During the Battle of Tarawa, Albert earned a Bronze Star with Combat "V". He fought in the first wave of combat that lasted for three days. After most of the shooting was over, he was sent back to the site of the battle to salvage any equipment he could find. Because of coral reefs in the area, Marines weren't able to land directly on the beach and had to get off their boats 500 yards from shore. Enemy combatants started picking them off, and soon the waters were filled with over 100 wounded and many more dead. Albert disregarded his mission to grab equipment and began pulling marines to safety. He took 47 in total, and oversaw the rescue of 30 more.

    This was a truly great TV show, I watched it with my Dad on TV in the UK, American comedy tv shows were so great then, slick and professional like this, I cant ever remember seeing these, thank you poster, it just goes to show how confident they all were on the love of the fans. How beautiful Mz Gabor was, I really only took notice when I was much much older and had kids of my own and being stupid just saw her as someone who was trying to stay good looking far beyond her years but I was of course quite wrong, a fantastic actor who could handle any role, I hope I can buy this show online

      Sets are generally made with a wall on the left, a wall on the right and a wall at the back. We, the TV or (or if a live sitcom) studio audience are sitting where the final fourth wall would be. Hence when addressing the camera or audience the performer is addressing the unseen fourth wall which is where the expression originates

    It's strange that Oliver also saw the names in the 2nd clip, since he was usually oblivious to the credits that usually only Lisa saw.
    I'd never seen the "Carpentry by Alf & Ralph Monroe" credit before. Again this is another one where Oliver joined in the fun of seeing a credit.
    I'd also never seen that last clip w/ the credits at the end. By union rules, the Director credit appeared first rather than last, as the Director is always credited last at the beginning of a program or first at the end of a program, so the Director is always credited closest to the body of the program.

    • @kenm7179

      Agree- maybe not by "a long shot", but definitely better. The writers created a whole town full of crazy, but human, characters. I rank it with Futurama as my all-time favorites. Honorable mentions- The Simpsons, Twilight Zone, Faulty Towers, Doctor Who, Get Smart, Tracy Ullman (Tracy Takes On), Larry Sanders, The Avengers (Emma Peel), Batman, The Honeymooners, and a few more I can't think of off the top of my head.

    • @michaelnivens6267
      @michaelnivens6267 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1
