  • I return to cruise on a cruise ship after it has been sliced in half and had a new section added, staying in a part of the ship that did not exist when I cruised on Windstar Star Pride the first time I sailed on the ship. I show and talk about what it is like and what changed

    Gary: The ship is 30 years old
    Me: Oh it was built in the 1970s, looks kind of modern for that time period.
    Reality: 30 years old is 1993.

    I have such happy memories of this ship (yacht) when she was the Seabourn Pride, particularly sailing out of the heart of London with Tower Bridge opening for her to pass under. Shame those days have gone but it looks like Windstar have done a good job of keeping her alive.

    Great video, it is nice to see a cruise line stretching and renovating an older ship instead of scrapping it. My first cruise many years was on a small ship and although it didn’t have as many amenities it was interesting how the crew did it all. The crew member serving you a hamburger at lunch might be singing in the show that night.

    OPEN BRIDGE!! Do take that in if you haven't experienced it as it's something most never get to witness. I was fortunate to ride on a LASH carrier as part of my USCG training at MSO New Orleans (now Sector NOLA). The best part was observing the Pilots bring the ship down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico and from the Atlantic into Hampton Roads. It was an amazing experience watching the Pilots work.

    A few weeks ago I was on the Star Legend, which is exactly the same as Pride, and loved it. I wonder though, why Windstar and so many other lines, have chosen to have the bed by the window/balcony. I purposely chose the older section that has the bed by the door. Much more serviceable layout. The only drawback is the heat/cooling air isn't very strong. Thanks for your videos, they've helped me immensely.

    Was on the Nordic Prince that did the same thing. The sister ship Sun Viking didn't do the stretch. (Royal) This goes back to the '70s. Sun Viking was the better ship. Those were the days.

      I sailed on the Sun Viking in 1997 from Singapore to Hong Kong prior to the British handover. Lots of Brits on board who wanted to see HK before Chinese took over. About 900 passengers if I remember correctly. Staff was fabulous...knew everyone by name. My second cruise. How far we've come.

    Has Windstar solved the lack of HVAC with the addition of the added cabins utilizing the existing engineering?

    • @dpr3709
      @dpr3709 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No. A few weeks ago I was on the Star Legend in Iceland. Because I prefer the cabin layout, I chose a cabin in the older section. The heat/cooling system was very weak. A engineer on the ship said it's because the old section still has portions where the heat/air is steam generated.

      Try sailing on the USCGC MAKINAW (WAGB-83) "Big Mac" on the Great Lakes. Only 290' long with a round bottom you're in for a ride. We took a 36-degree roll one day and few nights I slept with my arm around a pole just to make sure I didn't roll out of the upper bunk.

    The all gender bathrooms kills it for me. I’m in my 60’s and don’t care to share my bathroom with men I don’t know.

    • @namename9998
      @namename9998 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If the mens room is out of service and the next nearest one is on the floor above youd rather men vomit, poo or pee in their pants just so you dont have to share a bathroom with men you dont know. Technically men have already used the bathroom in your cabin so whats the problem with men using a single person bathroom. Youre in your 60s. Act like the adult youre supposed to be unless you have no problem being told that despite you being and old woman youre not allowed to use the mens bathroom even if it means youll have to poo all over yourself.

    • @namename9998
      @namename9998 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cherylkoski7184 How am I the rude one? Im not the one refusing to share bathrooms with people of the opposite sex. And if I was that uncomfortable sharing public bathrooms (like many germaphobes are) then maybe I shouldnt be using public bathrooms instead of discriminating against people for something they had no control over. If its not okay to discriminate based on skin color why is it okay to discriminate because of reproductive organs especially with single person bathrooms.
      Your husband, father, brother and son arent rapists are they. If theyre not then women shouldnt have problems using the same bathroom right. What other reason is there to be worried about using the same bathroom as people of the opposite sex. If your family are rapists why would they be using public bathrooms (unless they served their time). And men can be raped by men but men dont seem to have a problem sharing spaces with other men. Social etiquette never stopped criminals from committing crimes so why do you think the womens bathroom is safe.

      @@GeoffWilliams1 "I the only one thinking that your comments are a bit over the top here?" No
      But lets change stop signs and other warnings to calm soothing colors since red is an aggressive color. Lets not panic when we see someone running with scissors. And arent the people refusing to use bathrooms being just as over the top. Honestly, do you really believe they will remain calm while theyre about to pee/poo/vomit but are being denied using the nearest bathroom. "The all gender bathrooms kills it for me. I’m in my 60’s and don’t care to share my bathroom with men I don’t know." That seems over the top.
      Its important for people to understand why theyre being labeled sexist/misandrist/hypocrite. And I didnt include that they probably never had problems with places that never had segregated bathrooms like small restaurants where there was only 1 toilet the whole time the business was open. Unless it was 100% women only and no men ever entered the business chances are high that a man used the same toilet these commenters had (husbands might pick up their wives who work there. People who make repairs are usually men. People who make deliveries are usually men).
      Like you said, Im making a point. You cant get the point across with just "dont use public bathrooms then". The background is more important than "dont use the bathrooms".
