Good question- US CMA is a globally recognised professional certification (we use ‘US’ prefix to differentiate it from Indian CMA, but the actual name of the degree is just ‘CMA’). CMA certified professional is employable in any finance related role as the course focuses on skill development in finance domain and covers curriculum at both - IFRS and US GAAP level, making it a viable option to enter any MNC (including Indian and Non-US based companies.)

Hi Komal, EA is a specialisation or niche course, while US CMA offers broader scope (in comparison to EA). If you have specific interest in US taxation profile, I would recommend you EA, or a combination of CPA+EA. However, given that you are already a CA student and a helpful add-on that is aligned with your CA curriculum would be US CMA.

Hi Deepak, sorry but I have to disagree here, I haven't come across such a data set or trend regarding US CMA professionals. In my experience, I have seen these professionals taking up competitive and critical roles in FP&A, M&A, IB - Accounting & reporting, etc roles.

@@deepaksoni-ou7rl It completely depends on the company you join, and if you happen to work in any of the metropolitan job market (Gurugram, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, etc) there are enough day shift jobs available, so I would recommend anyone to opt for a day job accordingly. US CMA doesn’t need to work in US companies or US shifts only, its a certification for Finance professionals in general, and can expect a competitive job in general Finance profiles even in Europe and India based companies.

Hi Shijo, a log of CMA candidates who struggle to land a job approach me for assistance, and 99% of these cases get the fundamentals wrong - CV is not upto the mark, don’t know how to apply and change CVs as per JD, lack effective communication skill and are hardly prepared for the actual interview. So I do agree with what you say, but the fact is -with or without CMA, such candidates do struggle to get a job and need to understand job conversion process properly.

Hi Palak, soft skills (communication, networking) and technical skills (excel, financial modelling, alteryx, tableau, etc) can be gained along with US CMA for better job prospects.
If you have some background in finance 300 hours per part is fine, if new to finance- target 400 hours. If you are able to study 20 hours a week - ideally 5 months of prep per part is enough:))

You can consider going for self-study (you can buy/borrow study material, second hand, and prepare - this is what I did) or you can consider joining a prep provider as well.
I pursued FRM specifically for learning Derivatives in depth, and eventually even got placed in credit risk role. Coming to CMA, I was awarded scholarship (after winning IMA SCC 2018) and course looked good to me, that’s why I went ahead with the same. In my second role- Business Analyst (at FIS) and current role - Consultant (KPMG), a lot of the learning outcomes from CMA are coming handy, so frankly speaking- glad I pursued CMA. Having said this, I do agree with you - CMA and FRM don’t hold significant synergy and even I don’t recommend such a combination to anyone.

Not required, you can pass the exams first and simultaneously or after passing the exams, complete two years of work experience and apply for the certification.

Cma india is better initially but after sometime it doesn't matter what you do. cma india isn't valued outside india and Another thing to consider is uscma can be completed within a year. By the time you complete cma india both uscma and cpa could be completed.

Passing rate of Indian professional exams is 10-15%, passing rate of US exams is 30-40%
