The "get low" moment is really fun, actually! I saw them in Chile and it was incredibly difficult, seeing as the venue was fully packed. But still, we got as low as we possibly could, and when the "ARE YOU READY" hits, everyone jumps like CRAZY! Feeling the whole crowd go from crouched to jumping in a split second is something else, it feels like everyone's jumping with 10x the energy they usually do.

"Wasshoi Wasshoi Wasshoi Wasshoi!" It is just a shout of encouragement cheering on people carrying heavy floats and shrines at Japanese summer festivals. I see it translated in some subtitled videos as "Heave Ho" - not everything has to have a literal translation, I'd just leave it as Wasshoi personally.
Not sure of any similarity with 'BxMxC', it has a much more Japanese feel similar to 'Megitsune' for me - they even had the same person make the official video as made the mv for 'Megitsune'.

The live video you watched is from NEX_FEST - same festival as the 'Kingslayer' video - same editor too judging by the editing style, so that would explain the similarities. Shame he didn't manage to film the people getting low and all jumping up after Momo's "Are you ready!" They did - and all the crowds ever since have been defying their aching knees and getting low when Su tells them.
I think For The Fox God had the live at Legend MM (with Kami Band intro) - that is gone of course. I did find a couple of compilations which were mostly Legend MM, but had a couple of clips from the official live mv thrown in to confuse the copyright blocks (Azura Biuke has one).
The song title translates as 'Metali' (or 'Metari') which is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (festival). The song is about a Metal Village holding a metal festival, so they have included all the matsuri shouts everybody would be calling out as encouragement to the people carrying heavy floats etc like "Sore, Sore", "Dokoisho" and "Wasshoi!".
They are inviting us all to dance - I am reliably informed there is something in the lyrics (Su sings it and it is in Momometal's kabuki section) about we are all idiots or fools - the idiots who watch and the idiots who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all idiots why just watch, we may as well all dance.
This is what Tom Morello had to say. "I am a big fan of BABYMETAL, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I’ve been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of METALI!! I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!"

This song introduced me to BABYMETAL last year. I had only heard "Gimme Chocolate" back in 2014 and it wasn't for me back then... almost 10 years later, I heard this song from my cousin's Spotify playlist and I was ABSOLUTLY mesmerized and became a bit obsessed listening to new songs. This band did something in my brain that never happened before in 30 years.
And here I am now, BABYMETAL is my favorite band by far and I'm so happy and proud to be part of the community.
They have that Power to convert People to Fans i guess :) Happened to me too but it was the Song Headbanger that convinced me ^^.

The song is fun. I was lucky to see them in Denver in 2023. When Su said to get low, you bet I listened to the Queen. Live is the best way to experience BabyMetal!!!!
The 3 stringed instrument is a Shamisen. A Koto is like a cross between a harp and a slide guitar. Regarding Tom, just the fact that he wanted to collaborate is freaking awesome!

I was looking at your list it says Arkadia is next, you have to do 'Starlight" and "Shine" first as they are a combination of songs named the trilogy of lights that many believe was a tribute for Mikio's passing and Yui's departure as the songs represent the three stages of loss

Metali comes from combining the words Metal and Matsuri (Festival), basically the song describes a festival at the Metal Village, and the girls are inviting you to dance if you can’t sing or to sing if you can’t dance, even if you look foolish doing it.
The word Washoi basically means Let’s Go! Momo mentioned in one of the interviews you saw that this is her favorite song to perform live, because she loves chanting with the fans, and she has never mentioned this (at least that I’m aware of) but I’m pretty sure she loves Metali for being the first recording she was in, as the new official third member of BabyMetal.

You're absolutely right, indeed this live was filmed at the same exact show as Kingslayer, the Next_Fest at Makuhari Messe.
The live version has a special intro, unfortunately cut in this final editing, as Matali is one of the three songs that BM are currently playing and have the Kami Band performing their solos, the other two are YAVA! and Kageru.
I've seen them in Milan and there is actually a good quality fancam, that could be worth to be checked. There are a couple of videos from BD, but one has bee n striked recently, so, be aware.

A koto is like horizontal harp; the three stringed instrument is a Shamisen, which is more like a banjo being a box with a skin stretched over it. Washoi doesn't translate well to English, the common one being "heave ho". The song is about a summer street festival, a matsuri, this one being metal, a metali. At a matsuri, the crowd will carry portable shrines around, and the crowd will yell "washoi" as encouragement. The shrines are a Shinto religious thing, and carry kami, or spirits. The kami enjoy the festivals, and to partake they enter portable shrines and crowd surf in them. more or less.
The get low probably is picked up from Slipknot. In 2017 Babymetal was opener for Corey Taylor and Korn for a tour. Su probably wanted to try it out, but you get packed so tight you could not possibly get low.
The slogan "Wasshoi" means "God has come."
We parade around the city or town or wherevr with gods on a portable shrine, so we all chant together. At festivals in Japan, everyone almost always chants "wasshoi."
Keep in mind that the artists with whom they collaborate don’t always have matching schedules, so they’re not always going to be available to perform live or film videos together. We got lucky with BMTH and EC because BABYMETAL was touring with them or at the same festival so we were able to get the live videos. F. Hero was able to perform live with them because his schedule allowed it. And it was a few years after Brand New Day was released that they were able to perform it live with Henson and LePage. Hopefully someday we’ll get to see Tom and the ladies on stage together to perform this song.
Did anyone explain the "Get Low" bit here in the comments? It's a play on Kabuki theater, which is what they're emulating on-stage during the Momo solo bit. (Also why she speaks in an unusual tone of voice prior to the growl.) Audiences are supposed to be seated and quiet during the performance. Then she rips it up and everyone gets to go crazy, festival-style. The amount of participating in staying low depends on the audience, but sitting/kneeling isn't necessarily easy in a packed crowd, so some folks just duck their heads or squat a little bit.
Perhaps he's playing through the whole song, but only showed up at the end "live" section, because he would seem extremely out of place at the beginning in the temple. His groove is heard throughout.
And I don't know, but some people may have had a problem, if he dressed up as a Japanese for a video. Maybe.
Also: "Ratatata" was a collaboration between both bands. Tom is here as a featured artist on a Babymetal song.
The whole section where Su asks the crowd to "Get low" is because Momoko is imitating a Kabuki performance (hence the exaggerated speaking tone and poses she makes). Traditionally in Japan the audience at Kabuki theaters are seated on the floor for the performance. Of course it is impractical at Baby Metal shows to ask folks to sit, hence they have changed it to "Get Low"--it also makes for a cool visual when Momo growls "are you ready" and everybody leaps to their feet for the outro...

I think it's time you saw what the kami band is capable of. In this case the Eastern Kami band. The song is a Su solo song called "Rondo of Nightmare" and it is by far one of the darkest songs they've ever done. Hope you will check it out!

I see Metali as Shin Babymetal's statement of intent. Duo BM made their "lets get serious" album with The Other One - which is amazingly good, but it has a bit of a somber mood through it. Then as soon as it was released they got Momo aboard, and a few months later we got this. A pure bangin' party song.
Momo loves this song! (It’s unofficially her song) The first song with her on the recording and they gave her a awesome focus part! Metali is no. 1 for me right next to Megitsune (similar vibes different feelings 😂), it was so fun at the concert, i saw the fancam video before i went and i knew about Momo's part but holy hell it was amazing to be a part of it in a crowd, hope they will play it at the upcoming concert I'm planning to go to 😊 love your reactions! This is not the translation for it, but it essentially like the Japanese equivalent of "Heave-Ho". It's a chant they say on a festival related activity.
The song title is a combination of the word 'Metal' and 'Matsuri' (Festival). So that's why there's a lot of Japanese influence included like the Shamisen, and the chants. It essentially about having fun and dance at a Metal Festival in a Metal Village.
That live performance was from NexFest. The same concert from the Kingslayer live you watched. And it was edited by the same person.
Unfortunately, a lot of good Metali live was taken down with the channels. So, that's the best version you have. It's still live audio, just the visuals are edited more. Not much different than any other version you'd find, except for the Kami Band intro.

Wasshoi is a chant the Japanese use to help energize and motivate festival goers, shrine carriers, and those pulling parade floats.
Also, you missed out on the Legend MM version with the Kami band intro which, unfortunately, was on the For the Fox God youtube channel! If we can find another upload of it on youtube you should definitely check it out because that in my opinion is the definitive version of the song so far.

A lot of the live concert videos were lost when the For the Fox Gods page got taken down a couple weeks ago. 😭 They posted the entirety of the most recently released dvd (Legend 43) and the powers that be were very unhappy and nuked their account

It took them 5 years to get to play Brand New Day with Tim Henson and Scott LePage, so if BM can coordinate with Tom Morello in the next couple of years they will still be ahead of schedule, lol

Got to see them live in Grand Rapids, MI last year. It was a great show, and I was really surprised how many people showed up for them. I didn't realize the Midwest liked them so much! I always like your reactions!
They are hosting the radio show, I listened to the first one (Su-metal was speaking rather fast, as she does when nervous, so I missed some bits) - they look like they will be hosting members of Atarashii Gakko! over the next few weeks. Apparently AG helped out BM recently and that will be revealed in the next show.

I see the Tom Morello feature the other way around. It's distinctive, fits Morello's style and it's replicable (if it's not directly in a backing track).
One of my top favorite bands is Amon Amarth. One of their best known songs is "Twilight of the Thunder God". The studio version features an incredible solo by Roope Latvala (Children of Bodom). They have a brutal live but you always expect more from the solo (I suppose they don't play it as in the studio recording because of tuning or something). Sometimes, too good is just too good, I guess. 😅

First time I saw this live, Su told us to sit down. We sure did out best, but it was really hard with the crowd being so packed close to stage. Best I could do was a squat. Last time I saw them live, she said to "go low". I can still manage a mosh pit, but crouching was no fun for the old knees, let me tell you! 😂
Love that they gave Momo a bit of a monolog for her first song as official member, but it's sad that this section (including the scream) is always on the backing track. I hope they at least let her do some harsh vocals live in the future, but I sort of doubt it, to be honest.
As for the radio show (Babymetal Metaradi), it is indeed hosted by the girls themselves. They played some of their music and dutifully delivered a lot of promotional lines obviously written by Koba and the team. They did seem quite relaxed and had some lighthearted banter, but most of it was of course scripted. They talked about guests they would like to invite in the future, and apparently Atarashii Gakko will be there for the next three weeks.
One thing I like about this MV is that its got a closer feel to a live performance with Su holding the mic and the girls smiling and having a fun time. Loved your reaction to trying to get subs and its all Japanese! I'm very glad the growl wasn't spoiled for you. I love Su's power poses.

The 'real' version include the stage theatrics and the crowd interaction. And the audience adds the last bit to make it complete.

The Babymetal radio show it's a weekly show is 30 minutes long I think with English subtitles and the translations get kind of sketchy sometimes but it's really a trip I checked it out yesterday because it's not scripted they're just cutting up it's funny

TBH, 8 hour flight back and forth for a few minutes of footage? He's not in the song for the majority of it.
Electric Callboy was playing throughout, so they could make all kinds of cuts to the band.

Other than that, tho, BANGER! I really like it when they add cultural elements to it, like the shamisen, that specific style of spoken word that Momo did, and the wasshou chants.
Oh, and the Momo demon growl? She does it in the Electric Callboy collab as well, which a lot of people didn't catch.
When the EC dude screams, are you ready? You'll notice he doesn't mouth the 2nd are you ready. That's allegedly Momo!

You didn't experience the heartbreak, confusion, and pain of losing Yui.
Babymetal was just not the same without her. I still get emotional watching the First Take Monochrome when they clip to the 3 robed figures holding hands.
It was a deliberate choice to acknowledge her while referencing the video that showed that their strength came from them being together.
Needless to say, it took me a while to warm up to Momo, but I have. Still miss Yui, tho. I just want to know if she is ok.😇
Nice reaction. And here's the difference between featured and collaboration. This song is a feature and Ratata is a collaboration with Electric Callboy. Beyond that Tom said he wanted to work with them for a long time and they sent him a demo of this, and he knew he wanted to play on this song. Sadly, they were at a music festival together. Photo proof of it is out there and Tom didn't play the song with them. They did perform it. In the photo it almost looks like they trying to talk him into it. But who knows? Only the Fox god knows, Tom and Babymetal, the folks standing around them. LoL Momo joins and Su and Moa make her do solo section. No pressure. Momoko handled it like the pro she is. The start of the MV reminds me of the MV for Megitsune. Sometimes I think of Metal! video as part 2 of the Megitsune MV. For the crowds the get low is hard but folks do try. All for the jump. This isn't even the first time Babymetal did this. A long time ago at a music festival in Japan I believe Babymetal got the crowd to sit down so they could all jump up together. Folks get too excited to get down for so long. Especially when you know it's about to go crazy. Another fun tune by Babymetal. the MV was made in Japan and Tom was in the USA at the time. Maybe someday we will get them live together. In the meantime, we have Momoko's first growl. And Babymetal showing their new fangs as they like to put it. Lastly, they did their first radio show as host. It's a half hour long and it goes by fast. In the first episode we get a lot of their personalities coming out. And you can clearly make out their individual voices. They were excited about the show and what may happen in future shows. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.
The radio show is the three ladies talking to various guests. Next week they will have Atarashi Gakko as guests. It is in Japanese and the guests look like they will be Japanese performers. They mentioned XG, Perfume, Hyde, One OK Rock, etc.
They are inviting "meta tomo" or metal friends. They seemed especially interested in groups that had toured internationally like they had. It is on the babymetaltube channel with good quality english subs but it looks like the various posts are being taken down for copyright.
I really hope they can have Yoshiki from X-Japan on their Show. That would be awesome:)
Momoko is so talented. I've been following her career since her Sakura Gakuin days and she always showed that she had a lot to give as an artist. She sings, she dances, she speaks English and Korean, and she can act. Actually, the idea to have her do the spoken part of this song comes from her experience in theater plays. The voice she does is Kabuki style and she does it perfectly. She said in an interview before joining Babymetal that her dream was to be a dancer for a famous group or artist, so joining Babymetal is literally a dream come true for her. Knowing that, I smile whenever I see her perform with Babymetal.
Not sure you are aware of this but the amazing thing about Momo, well one of them is that I believe she is 4 years younger than Moa and 6 years younger than Su (so ATM only 21) so joining and performing with them as a fully-fledged member but have been quite intimidating.
In Headbanger when Su hands the microphone to Momo there is brief nod and a smile that says "you got this", imagine taking that on at her age in front of 30,000 people.
They obviously took the energy of a couple of nuclear power stations and made a day blackout for whole Japan just to record this song)))). Can`t even imagine how it feels live. Happy New Year, Whiskey-metal!

Unfortunately the best live version of this song was the Legend MM performance with Kami band intro from the For The Fox God channel but it was taken down recently.
This was filmed at Nex Fest, same festival as the Kingslayer video and done by the same videographer
I also think this was in Makuhari Messe, a favorite Babymetal venue. Makuhari Messe is a big conference center with multiple halls that can be combined. Each hall holds about 12,000 standing capacity. Babymetal usually uses two halls for the concert and another hall for queuing and merch. Not sure what they used for Nex Fest.

Metali = Metal + Festival (Matsuri), released around Japanese Traditional Festival season. Babymetal is being rebellious again 😂 - kicking the tea sets and wearing shoes on the Tatami mat in the MV, and having a female (Momo) in a Kabuki Theater section. Hence the “get low”, as we’re watching Momo perform Kabuki Theater.
At the DC show in November, pretty much the whole crowd got down, all ~5000 of us! It’s really hard to see tho on camera.
Suggestions - You really need to check out songs with Kami Band solos:

Many of us listen (almost) exclusively to live versions of Babymetal's songs. Babymetal have a lot of live albums released along with their many concert Blu-rays. The production on their first two studio albums, Babymetal and Metal Resistance, is not the best. It's a lot better on Metal Galaxy and The Other One, so I do listen to some of the studio tracks from them. But as you know, Babymetal live just hits different.
Saw this song performed in Los Angeles in Oct of 2023. I thought for sure Tom would surprise us and show up for that show. Nope. Also saw them in November of last year in Anaheim. Still no Tom. Far as I know he has yet to join them in any performance. 🤘🦊🤘
He honestly not the nicest guy, but he should of done it like F Hero did his part live a few times.
I recommend the metali from legend-43 as they invited a female traditional drum group for the entire song.
FWIW, as much as I love the official video, watching a version of this from a festival is generally my goto...or, especially the Rock Am Ring festival. There may bea video of that entire concert you can find, metali is...oh, roughly 25 minutes in, maybe a little less; and you get an intro of the kami band noodling around, always a plus. I find the 'official live' video to be too cut-down and jump-cut compared to even the videos from specific concerts. Also, find a version with subtitles, to learn more of the meaning, but in Brief: "Wasshoi" is usually translated "Heave Ho" -- it's used in japanese festivals to coordinate lifting portable shrines to carry around. This whole song is about festivals, so it makes sense. Also "Wakka Ni Natte" is, roughly "form a circle" and if you get a shot of the mosh pit(s) during that, you'll see them, in fact, forming a ring/whirlpool. I remember an interview where Su-metal mention loving this song specifically because of the crowd response. It can add SO much energy to one of their shows...when it works, it really REALLY works.

Great as always, thanks for the reaction. Disappointingly the version I believe most folks were hoping for-the Legend MM-went away when For the Foxgod was cancelled. That version just had everything. 4K total crowd participation, the band was really visible all the lights and graphics. But alas no more.
The version we just watched was at a Festival so not necessarily a "there' specifically for Babymetal. Where as Legend MM the ONE were out in force and knew what to do.
The similarities with this and Kingslayer have to do with the same group-Circus Head - produced both videos.

All because the BABYMETAL members were wearing shoes inside, and kicking over tea tables during the song.
I guess they were forgetting all the tables the BAND-MAID members overturned in their 'Don't you tell ME' music video.
And that this was filmed in a studio, not while visiting someone's house. : )

Momo does do some growling. Check out "Headbanger (Momo vers), Meta Taro from Legend MM, even in Ratatata. From my understanding, she growls "Are you ready?" in Metali at shows live as well, but this particular performance had her doing it on a pre-recorded track.
Would be tough to get any harsh vocals to come through that clearly using the head mic that they typically wear. But I personally would love to see her growl more live. It hypes me up!
Metali is certainly a fun song, and as you know, certainly better live. Of course Momo growling Are You Ready adds a ton to it, even if it's on a back track. Your thoughts on why didn't they include it on the studio version mirror my own for this and also what Noah from Bad Omens does during V.A.N live that he doesn't do on the studio recording. Which I'll gladly say I got to experience in person as well. If you want to do another version of Metali, while not professionally done and being a phone video, it was one I got when I saw them live in November where they had a Kami Band intro tied to it as well (Though unfortunately I couldn't get every member of the Kami Band due to my position). Also with how you're growing your channel, might not be a bad idea to look at setting up a discord, could also help with making sure you get the correct videos for reactions.
