You oversimplified this concept and missed a few crucial steps in the process of creation of Depository Receipts (GDR, ADR or IDR). I'm not in school so I get that I'm not your target audience. However, this is still incomplete and oversimplified even for school kids. Indian companies issue securities and store them with a domestic custodian. This domestic custodian them informs Overseas Depository bank about the securities. The overseas depository bank further informs the investor and provides shares to this investor for him to put his money in. What (information/shares)the overseas depository bank gives to the overseas investor is called DR.
