- This was another awesome cold flow test comparing a very popular Mopar ZF transmission fluid that is used in a lot of the new Mopar Chrysler transmissions. It's amazing how the green ATF fluid froze rock solid.
This test is a best case scenario representation the unfortunate part is the synthetic blend oil which is the Mopar will thicken much quicker with oxidation and will break down extremely fast compared to the AMSOIL fuel efficient ATF fluid

This one Eben was the biggest shocker for me. My wife's vehicle is a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid and uses the ZF 8/9 speed trans fluid to cool the electric motor transmission and lubricate the front differential assembly gears. It's a single speed transmission unlike the 9 speed in the gas only Pacifica. I was shocked though that ZF, being a German company, has a trans fluid with poor cold climate flow, since Germany has ultra cold winters. Amsoil is definitely going in once the factory warranty is up this October.

I recently did a transmission fluid change on my Buick because it was shifting hard, slipping and making some noise as well. After putting in a new filter and 8 quarts of Amsoil Signature Series fuel efficient transmission fluid in, now the car shifts better then ever, like a new car. Shifts into gear easier, smoother, quieter and no more hard shifting and clucking or slipping on acceleration. This product is phenomenal.

Wow! I have a zf transmission in my vehicle and dodge states to me it recommands or even requires mopar transmission fluid for their vehicles with the zf transmission. But I'm a amsoil guy, and this says it all on your video, amsoil transmission is surely the winner for protection protection protection! Nice review man!

I use amsoil in my wife's jeep renegade too and my 900hp honda civic drag car.
The reason why people call Amsoil snake oil is not because of the product itself, but because of the way that it’s marketed and sold. Through affiliates that bash other products while pumping up the products they profit from. That is the definition of the snake a oil salesman.
Snake oil is a term used for products that do not work that are basically pseudo science there's science that's proven and then there's pseudoscience which is something that does nothing.

This test proves nothing because where does it even get that cold where someone will actually live? If you used a realistic cold temperature like in Russia or Alaska then that would make sense but these guys want to use an unrealistic temperature

Thanks for sharing. You're running a test at negative 58 degrees Fahrenheit below zero. That's very cold. If I lived in a place that experienced those temps it would be worthwhile. What do the tests look like for temps that most people/vehicles experience?
Great question Jean it is to show the maximum temperatures that are very cold just to show how they're different if it's at room temperature it will pour a lot quicker and a cold start can account for up to 80% of the wear on a motor so it's very important to have a good flowing lubricant.

I live in Canada about 5 hrs north of Syracuse NY and we get -40C temps extreme winter events that's is -40F for our southern friends. We also travel 6-7 hours North for sled'n. Shocked at the pour comparison.

How much is the Amsoil?
@@lynnsyddall420 approx $18 at retail. Preferred Customer price is less than $14. So, as you can see quite a bit cheaper than the Mopar ATF but so much better in terms of quality and performance. I am sure Eben can answer any other questions you have about the entire line of Amsoil superior products. You will not be disappointed by Amsoil or Eben.
Mopar is not $47 a quart it ranges between $10-15, cheaper if you look for sales..
If you have an 8-9 speed 948TE or equivalent you better use Mopar...Nowhere in life is below 50 degrees this not an accurate test of real word!!
Hey eben, i think you should do a cold flow test with amsoil singnature series atf against valvoline maxlife atf that everybody "squacks" about 😉😉 the valvoline seems to be the pennzoil platinum of trans fluid on the internet right now, everybody raves how affordable it is and says it does well. Yes it will mix also all the other fluids that Amsoil makes will mix with all other fluids.

I am thinking about going to a soil in my ram transmission. What about the fact that you don’t get a few quarts out when changing it? Will the amsoil mixing with the remainder of the molar oil cause problems?
These are some great questions Michael Yes any fluid that's compatible with that transmission fluid will mix just fine also any non-synthetic will also mix with synthetic I get asked that question a lot so basically what a full synthetic is is about 25% synthetic 75% mineral oil That's what most full synthetics are so they are actually a mix with Amsoil it's actually 100% synthetic so it will make a huge difference in your shifting speeds even if you change half the fluid it'll make a huge difference also in cold flow protection and you'll also notice a big difference with the cold shifting This is a cool video I did at -50° c to show how they're different.

After your Renegade transmission fluid change video, I thought about doing my renegade, but I heard it is not recommended to change the fluid type and stay with the expensive Z9 fluid.

Steve. I think for the sake of the channel you need to add couple of tests like cooking the oil on hot plat. metal loss by dipping a rotating metal sample in the oil. see how the oil react in different physical environment.

I have no idea and never used it but the synthetic is Sam's oil 100% synthetic is a big difference much smoother you'll have a longer transmission life and much more high heat protection this is the best way to buy AMS oil if you want to try it I would be raising a dealer I could always answer all your questions on the products in the future.

Next time at the north pole I know what oil to use. How does the flow compare at more typical cold winter temps like -20°C instead of -48°C
It would perform better the warmer it is also when it gets oxidized it gets a lot thicker quicker so the 100% synthetic hams will will hold up a lot better over the course of a oil change compared to a lot of the other motor oils.
This test here shows a lot of that oxidation and oil thickening and the way it holds its film strength.

I’m about to do ATF on my 2018 Lexus Is300. Looks like the transmission is almost 10 qt capacity. Do I do multiple drain and fills to get all the 10qt of old fluid out?

Which brand would be better for driving in the heat ? Need zf 8&9 speed atf I kinda busted my transmission lines so got them replaced and Oreily’s said I needed at+4 so I spent about 300$ on 8qts three days later my check engine light is on and car is forcing itself to drive turns out we put in wrong atf now we wanna make sure we put the right one it due to we need to fill it by being under the car

Just put amsoil in my renegade trail hawk. Works great except I now have a check engine light on for my transmission. Not sure what is going on just yet.

Any update on that Jeep? Also can you test Mopar ATF +4 full synthetic vs Amsoil fuel efficient ATF full synthetic? Do you need me to send you a quart of the Mopar ATF +4 full synthetic. Hey man love your videos but I have a challenge that I would love to see you compare somehow. Red Line Synthetic D6 ATF has good numbers for the ZF 8HP70 boxe with Viscosity @ 100° C - 6.4 cSt Viscosity @ 40° C 30.7 cSt Flash Point @ 249° C - The flash point is exceptionally high and great for long endurance races. So do you think you could ever compare it to AMSOIL ATF? :) I see the AMSOIL has better Brookfield Viscosity but the flash point and the pour point are almost identical.

I have a Jeep Renegade 2015 A/T, living in UK. Sometimes while driving my tramission feels like disengaging because my RPM just jumps up and the speed goes back to 0. To overcome it, I have to let go of the gas and try again. Just wondering if you experienced something like that before. Could be a transmission oil problem? Car got only 25K in the odo. Thanks. You should try Mag 1 multi vehicle low viscosity by warren.
Stop Stellantis and tell your doctor if you experience heartburn, diarrhea, or a frozen transmission lasting longer than four hours.

Do you recommend partial or complete exchange of with machine?
I always like to do a pan drop and do the drain and fill which is usually anywhere from 33% to 66% of the fluid in the transmission the rest is in the torque converter then I usually like to come back after 5,000 miles and do it again if it's a new vehicle when switching to Amsoil that's what I did to my personal car you'll see it on the channel it's the SL550 playlist.

What's the mileage rating for the Amsoil eco ATF, 30,000 50,000, 60,000, 80,000, 100,000 or higher???
Great question I'm not sure which ATF you're talking about but most ATF fluids are going to be good for about 30 to 60,000 mi depending on how you're driving.
If you're doing specialty stuff like all highway driving you can go quite a bit longer with oil analysis.
If you're doing city driving in a high temperature area like Las Vegas it's more preferable at about 20,000 miles just depends on driving conditions. And if you want to be 100% for certain you'd want to definitely do an oil analysis like in this video.

One year while working at Fry's food & drug grocery store they put on carts on one the hottest days on record for three hours and it was 128°f plus the asphalt factor.🥵 I usually changed the ATF fluid in the vehicles I have owned about every 50,000 miles on the old V8 muscle cars I have owned but no more than 100,000 miles with Valvoline Max Life ATF Dextron III Mercon V and filter and gasket of coarse.

The zf 8&9 speed fluid is not even comparable to amsoil fuel efficient garbo. Listen, the friction modifiers have a huge effect on behavior on the fluid friction. The 8&9 speed mopar stuff is the same as zf 8&9 speed, and is designed to have less friction modifiers. That changes static and dynamic friction coefficients. You put that AMSoil fluid in a zf 8 or 9 and your trans is going to burn up guaranteed.
You'll notice on the Android ATF is the same specification as this fluid It is a different base stock there's a lot of differences in the fluids This is the full specification on that specific ATF -

@@Syntheticoilprotection You do not recognize the actual effect of friction modifiers on clutch temperature. Specifically more friction modifiers found in these AMSOIL products comparative to the zf product (keep in mind, chrysler simply rebrands the fluid ZF actually engineered for the 8hp90), causes increase in sliding friction, and decrease in static friction. If you use a standard ATF in that application, you will burn the frictions up.
Correct you always want to use the proper specification for any of the transmissions.

So if anyone has the newer Rolls Royce with the ZF 8 speed automatic transmission with GPS, they should use the Amsoil Fuel-Efficient ATF, because that transmission is still even more expensive and requires stricter lubrication at the coldest temperatures and hottest temperatures, despite being the same transmission with the GPS found in BMWs.

Of course you always want to change your fluid on most transmissions around 30 to 50,000 mi if you're doing all highway driving that's an exception so then you could go longer but if you're doing normal city driving like most people you definitely want to change it pretty early.

Absolutely do not. The ZF 8&9 fluid is much better than the super friction modified ATF's. And the factory computer is not designed to use the high slip rate engagement of these ATF's. You will literally roast your clutches.

Amsoil is the best and I bet they never stop wrapping there filters..
Supposedly the amount of friction modifiers in the ZF fluid are lower than amsoil and too much modifier in those transmissions can be harmful to the clutches. I'm sure amsoil would work in it but I guess it was designed for a designated amount to be used in it... Amsoil is better fluid overall I'm sure tho I agree, does look beautiful.

I like Amsoil but I run a ram zf8 tranny in Canada and I change it regular with zf oil I towed 10k trailer for the last 100 000km and no problems so maybe Amsoil is better but when it comes tk transmission I’ll stick with manufacturing as I hesitate a one fits it’s all for transmission Amsoil I like the gear oil or engine oil where I can choose the specs for oil I want but the tranny I’m hesitant
Mobil 1 atf or Mopar +4 we're probably the two best, and most relevant comparisons to Amsoil fuel efficient.
This test absolutely proves nothing because both products do not serve the same purpose.
That's correct and not correct at the same time.
So the one meets one specification.
The other fluid meats several specifications which you'll see on the back of the bottle.
So there's nothing proved as in yeah they both don't meet the same exact specifications across the board but the one thing it does prove is that one will have less parasitic drag when it's shifting because less resistance.
That equates to better fuel mileage smoother shifting longer lasting transmission because if the fluid doesn't flow over the components they won't be cooled and you could have a burning issue even if it's at a cold temperature.
This is some great info that you will see some big differences between a lot of other fluids.
