    Interesting. How well did the glue and tape hold on the oiled wood? What type of glue was that?

      It's still holding after all the time. Would be better without the oil of course.
      It was normal ca-glue.

    Worst parts I saw were the tape & glue on the rubber foot, you NEVER glue the foot on as it is supposed to be replaceable (BTW that was not an antique foot it was fairly new)!! Also super glue on the handle, really! Exterior wood glue or hide glue yes, super glue never!!

      That makes sense with the replaceable foot, if i do more stuff Like this in the future i will keep this in mind.

    I'm going to agree that you should not have scraped and sanded so much. You took it from antique to brand new. It no longer matters that the wood itself is 100 years old. The cane is new.
    Still a like though. For making it new, you did a fine job.
