I'm a huge Bowie Fan, I'm only getting down to learn to play my guitar recently at 56, I'm so grateful to you for being on you tube, Wish I'd had you years ago, Thank You.
I'm only 13 but due to my parent's good taste in music, I've listened to bowie for years and have also just started playing guitar, though i have been playing violin for about 4 years.
I´m so happy that after a year of practicing guitar with your videos and others too I can FINALLY play this soong!! One of my favorites Bowie songs, thank you for being such a great tacher Justin, greetings from Costa Rica!!
The first song I ever learned to play by myself. No tabs, no sheet music, nothing. And well before anyone ever heard of TH-cam. Just sheer repetition/experimentation with the chords I knew, until I got it to sound right. I still can't believe how much Mr. Bowie's passing is hitting me. I'm deeply saddened by the loss of someone who's music has been so much a part of my life. I know I'm not alone in that.
Haven't played my guitar in yonks. But this made me dust it off and have ago. Many thanks for sharing. I was so so lucky to see Bowie as Ziggy in 73, here in Oxford. The costume changes, mime and friends from school with flashes on their faces. Fantastic gig. His best era for me. If you walked round school carrying Ziggy Sardust, Alladin Sane or Hunky Dory you were the dogs.
I don't often comment on these tutorials but in this case I have to commend you Justin for doing this. David Bowie was legendary and this takes me back some 40 years (yeah I'm 60) and it stirred a lot of old memories. People these days are very fortunate to have people such as yourself posting these videos. We used to learn this stuff by listening to the record or cassette tape and sheet music if you were fortunate enough to even find it anywhere - and it certainly wasn't free. My hat goes off to you for this one - very well done!!
Beautiful mate. Even the description story is moving, because it's true. Lazarus describes it all, what a parting gift! The legacy of Ziggy will always be in my heart. Great lesson again, thank you.
Thank you so much Justin!!!! So fantastic. I don't really know how to play the guitar AT ALL (that makes 3 instruments I don't really know how to play the piano, the trumpet & the guitar), however now that my 8 year old son is almost playing better than I am I thought I would come back to it. This video is something I played with a while ago but then gave up on, figuring I would never be able to play it. You have now taught me how to play Ziggy Stardust!!!! I have figured it out thanks to you. Bowie was such an incredible gift to our world, was lucky enough to see him 3 times and his music is still as impactful in my life as it ever was. Now that my son has taken up the guitar I can't wait to teach him about Bowie. I've never wanted to steer him towards who he likes and doesn't like, other than raising both my children on The Beatles. He has had his stages already, Kiss, The BeeGees, (living in Canada) The Tragically Hip, The Band, Elton John but I have slowly started to introduce Ziggy Stardust into his life, this will go a long way. Friday night he is playing his first Open Mic, he is going to play Love Me Do!!!! Thanks again Justin!!!!
Funny in a way, I have had a David Bowie C D playing non stop in my car all through Xmas and new year( Reliving my musical youth), and I have been marveling at how creative he and his band were, just to come up with endless music just amazes me. I think anyone who had Bowie's music as a backdrop to their lives, felt or witnessed something very special. Well done Justin on doing a Bowie classic. Cheers "Look at those cavemen go, it's the freakiest show. Is there life on Mars?"
This looks super fun and the way you play it works super well as a solo acoustic jam. Will definitely learn when I have a bit more time in February. And we miss you, Ziggy!
I met Ronno in Seattle and he showed me the correct way to play the song. I said I wasn't happy how anemic the pinky trill sounded when I hit the D chord. He showed me that he played it like a barre chord D hammeron to give it a bigger "tone".
Nice one Justin. The perfect tribute. Blackstar is indeed stunning. Pushing the envelope until the end, Absolutely chilling how the great man has gone with a deliberate and starkly beautiful artistic statement on his own passing.
Huge kudos to you, Justin, for doing these two Bowie songs, at such short notice. There are plenty of others we would love to learn, maybe in the near future? As it stands, a major, (or should that be, A Maj) 'Thank you' is in order, for being so cool and making these videos. :-) xx
I couldn’t have ever dreamed of playing this. I watched your video, 3 hours later after watching your video a few times and lots of practice, I’ve nailed it. Another awesome song in the bag, thank you so much Justin. By the way, I’m a total beginner, picked up a guitar for the first time 3 weeks ago. Awesome video, you are an amazing teacher. I have Yousician, it doesn’t work for me, but your videos really make sense to me and I’m so pleased with my progress.
Justin, you are a very good performer. Do you play in a band or do solo stuff? I want to thank you for what you do. I have learned several songs from you. You are one of the best on you tube in my opinion. You do not waste time. I think everyone should keep in mind that there a lot of seasoned players learning there songs along with the beginners. thanks , you rock....
Justin - I just discovered you and am delighted with this lesson. I've been playing for many years, but still much enjoyed your teaching style and presentation. Wow, great stuff man!
Thanks, Justin, for the tribute lesson. Ziggy Stardust was a perfect choice at this time. A little sad but defiant. Something we needed during our hurt, and celebrate David’s life, talent, and music. Again, thanks.
hi justin found your tutorial posts by accident find yours very clear and helpful. i was looking for to nail the run down in ziggy intro its going to take me a while to retrain left hand to grab those 9ths in major chords . loved the advice on ace of spades and ramble on also. now back to basic training ! thank you
I searched for "Lady Stardust" and mistook this video for that. But strangely enough I'm sure I was in your class at the Guitar Institute in London around 10 years ago. Well anyway, nothing to do with your teaching as to why I'm here 10 years later looking up tutorials. I just thought I had all the time in the world to learn and now I've just hit 30 and realise how fast time passes haha
+justinguitar songs thats incredible!! ive learned so many songs thanx to you!! the bar code is exactly as stairway to heavens finale!!! great!! rockn roll!!
Good Job Justin, I'm making unusually good progress with this in my clunky way. Thank you for doing this on what would have been a very difficulty day RIP DB x
As always, a brilliant tutorial Justin! Frantically trying to decide what bowie songs to throw in the next set and this is up there now! Great fun to play! Thank you:-)
Hi Justin, I learnt this and love playing it. Would you be able to do another Bowie song? I'd love to learn Oh! you pretty things. No decent tutorials on TH-cam of that one and would be fun to learn :) Thanks for all you do! :)
Thanks man, this sounds awesome and, as usual, you've done an outstanding job explaining all the subtle nuances that make this such a cool song. So sad to lose such an influential & creative musician, but being able to learn some of his stuff and "pay tribute" to the man lessens the pain a little. Thank You Justin, keep up the great work and all the best to you & yours in the new year! P.S. and thank you SO MUCH for the "black friday" dvd bundles you offered, I've been thoroughly enjoying the huge pile of DVDs that came in the mail a few weeks ago!!!
Most of today I've been thinking "I wonder what song Justin will do as a tribute", and "will I be able to play it?" Great choice, great lesson, one day....
I'm a huge Bowie Fan, I'm only getting down to learn to play my guitar recently at 56, I'm so grateful to you for being on you tube, Wish I'd had you years ago, Thank You.
Barry Oneill same here - me now 58. Big fun! And Justin helped a lot to get started. Thx!
Don't forget - the Watch That Man guitar intro is G to Cadd9!
Me too at 57
hope still rocking at 60
I'm only 13 but due to my parent's good taste in music, I've listened to bowie for years and have also just started playing guitar, though i have been playing violin for about 4 years.
You are going above and beyond today, Justin.
We all GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.

I don't think I've ever felt this sad after someone I didn't know personally died
+Art Artsen Ditto on that 1!
Him and Elliott smith were heartbreaking
+Les Paul Is there a particular reason why you chose the Seymour Duncan twin coil for your profile pic???
+Art Artsen when paul walker died.. i dropped a tear or two back in 2013
+Jackson Oberhauser AND John Lennon
A lot of feel in those vocals justin, great job!
Look at justin while the playthrough. He enjoys it more, with every second... music from the heart. Thanks justin!

Another fitting tribute to David Bowie, thank you Justin. Outstanding...💔 ☮
* * * * * 4:44 Intro, 11:30 Verse, 17:20 Chorus,
RIP David Bowie, what a great way to celebrate his genius work with your brilliant tutorial. Great job Justin!

three days ago I first touched a guitar.
Yesterday I bought an E-guitar on EBay.
Today I play Ziggy Stardust.
Oh my gosh I just love it!
May David Bowie rest in paradise
This man and this album brought a whole new genre to rock and roll.
Thanks Justin !
Rest in peace, Ziggy Stardust✨💫
Mick Ronson Rest in peace.

"Look at those cavemen go, it's the freakiest show.
Is there life on Mars?"
A single sorry seems improper. I expect no more apologies! You sir changed my life! 4 years later,... Dunno, music is great!
My favourite bit of the lesson is when you say "this is so much fun to play...." sums it up for me!
This looks super fun and the way you play it works super well as a solo acoustic jam. Will definitely learn when I have a bit more time in February.
And we miss you, Ziggy!
Amazing, Justin.
The Bowie Magic is join all of us in a most peculiar way.
R.I.P Bowie...even though I wasn't born in his era I still appreciate and love his music... His legacy lives on...
thank you justin. you are too good to us
I met Ronno in Seattle and he showed me the correct way to play the song.
