    I’m a bit odd, but this is actually one of the first songs I learned on guitar. I played that opening lick over & over until I got it & it has helped me with my playing & learning new songs ever since.

      Same here! It’s such a great song to just dive into even though it took me months to get the opening lick down at all. I was so excited to play the song and I was so happy my fingers were able to make G and D for the opening intro

I know it's going to be frustrating and you gonna think no way ima learn this. But you got this man just stick to it and watch one day my guy. It's crazy when you realize wow I can do it

    I just watched your last "Privettricker" video and I admit that up until that video where you discussed the new channel, I always thought "James James" sure was ripping Privettricker off, ha. I totally get your frustration and see this like so many things in life, a few idiots can ruin things for the majority. But only if you let them. Btw, I am 65, a Wake Forest guy, bought a nice Martin acoustic last year, and can only play what I gain from your great videos and would not know a tab if it bit me. I play by ear, admit I am pitiful, but love every minute of it. Please keep making videos if for no other reason, we can see your T-shirt collection, yes sir.

    Really great lesson James James, thanks.
    I always thought the defending Bassline part was C, hold to B and on to Bb but the chord fits perfect.
    I've watched Jimmy playing live and he plays the G to D part ("maybe more than enough") like he's sliding the bottom of a G barre chord up to the bottom of a D barre chord on 5th fret. That's the way I play and seems to fit nicely

    I loved the little comment you made about if you played this at a campfire good luck getting anyone to sing it. LOL. So so true. Plant had such a unique voice and nearly impossible for anyone to do a good job on their songs. My old band could do just about any cover all day long but not Zep no way because nobody could even sing it anywhere close to being respectable. Jame's you do a good job and your vids are always enjoyable.

    18:55 for the "campfire" coda you can thumb the low G and do the same walk up to major 3rd that Jimmy does up high, but lower: 2nd to 4th frets on the G string, D open, others muted.

    A little tip for starters, usually with a cheaper guitar and dodgy action, use a capo,it lowers the action so it's easier,once you get the feel, take capo off,as this took me ages with a cheap guitar lol

    14:00 it's easier if you use the same finger for 4-6-4, as in slide up to 6 AND back to 4, instead of changing the finger and then sliding the other one back to 2. That way you use index on 2 and ring finger on 4-6-4 then back to index on 2. And that way it sounds more like Jimmy too.

    I was playing along to the MSG live version today. I had too much delay on (due to playing a bunch of U2 songs earlier! LOL) ...I don't think Page used any, maybe tons of reverb? Anyhow, the thing is with the live versions, there's also a lot of solo riffing that Jimmy is doing in the middle bits, going from first position as you show, up to ninth to 11th or 12th or whatever, and he doesn't really waver much from that for the solos, actually some of it is played even higher, until he settles back in for that wind up back to the intermediate rhythm riff that brings you
    back to the main riff. He keeps hammering on and off tons of notes at 2nd to 3rd fret the early part of the solo, bassier low parts, then ascends to the higher frets etc. Just watching what Pagey does on the MSG version is very instructive. I like playing this on my 12-string too, but it's ac. electric, so good luck playing the solo stuff on that guitar. I wonder why Pagey didn't play this much on the double neck, when he could easily have done so? Or maybe he hated playing solo stuff on the double? Although didn't he use that for Stairway?

    • @jamesjames9275
      @jamesjames9275  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the song’s position is the set list might have influenced what guitar he used for it. Anyway, I posted a play-along demo of a live version (Knebworth) that shows the fret positions for the soloing. It’s not note-for-note, but it gives an idea of where he was parked on the neck.

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jamesjames9275 Yep, I watched your Knebworth version as well. I'm gonna try to play along with that version soon. I meant I would have thought he might've wanted the 12-string handy as well for this song, but maybe not, it's a pain in the ass live. Easier just to do it on the LP. I"m terrible even doing the opening closing riffs, my fingers are small and short etc., always had trouble playing this song. But I manage.
