@@thelightersideofrc Jonathan no you keep it. My F5J don’t fly well in the Cold. If you keep the Snow ❄ I will tell Santa to give you extra toys to Build for People.
Thanks Sal! Yea it's just our first blip letting us know winter is coming! Hopefully will melt soon and not have any more sticking to the ground till closer to christmas.
Another great build Jon. I have to be honest with all those aircraft projects going and complete, and then having to wait for good weather would drive me crazy ! Here in South Carolina USA , we fly every week of and it still seems like it’s not enough! Come south with your talents ! Great as always!
Thanks Dean! I totally understand that. I'm generally ok for November and December but come January I get the itch to fly big time. The down time does help a ton with being able to focus on the builds. I'm much less productive in summer but that also comes with full weekend or multi day events events and such.
Stunning, FYI the P&W exhausts are actually offset/rotated so that one points down and the other up on all Pilatus installations - apparently to offset prop wash
@@thelightersideofrc its no effort or sacrifice on my part to watch your channel mate - the hard part is trying not to watch when I should be working. While you're doing installation and test runs on your PC-21 we are literally as I write doing the runs on a brand new engine on a PC-12 47E - its amazing to see and hear the similarities
@@MJ-td3ij Their aim is to simply to make both exhaust trails track straight back along the fuselage in a predictable manner, for two reasons. One, you get a small amount of thrust from it to offset those huge pipes hanging out of the side, and two, so aircraft designers (and turbine conversion companies) don't have to worry about exhaust going over things they don't want it to. Some aircraft have cabin air vents at the wing root, some have other sensitive stuff in that area that you probably don't want hot exhaust on, like fuel caps and acrylic landing light covers and whatnot. The opposite side is actually pointed down to prevent the exhaust from spiraling up into the windshield and cockpit area. The faster the aircraft cruises at, the less those stacks have to be angled because in an aircraft-relative viewpoint the exhaust is traveling much faster across the plane. It's still corkscrewing just as fast, it's just happening further behind the airplane. Much has been done aerodynamically with those exhaust stacks too, both to improve speed and to reduce soot deposition on the fuselage. Straight stacks are common on most PT-6 applications but they're far from the ideal shape.

Thanks Dave. Got a reply back from Marc at Jetcat and he says it's fine and we should expect it to unload to 5500-5800 RPM in the air. Thanks for the Suggestion on the Openings. Waiting on a FOD Screen from JC as well.
Maybe you can get a bit a smoother run of the spinner if you rotate it (spinner only w/o backplate). A bit trial and error might improve the situation. Mine wobbled a little too. The prop offered by SM should actually be a perfect fit for the SPT10. I used it on my K100TP without issue. Varioprop looks better though. Many also use the Falcon Carbon 5-blade. Tried that one too and stayed with the Varioprop 24.1" in the end.
Yea i'm going to try rotating the spinner and see if it improves. I did get a reply back from Jetcat and they say the numbers are good and it should unload to 5500-5800 in the air. so I think we are good to go!
Hi Jonathan. Hope u well. I had to dremel the spinner gaps larger to ensure the prop does not touch it. After that it ran 99% true and still is. My K60TP turns the SM prop like u cannot believe. Recon your gearbox still to tight limiting max rpm or you net getting 100% full throttle? That 10kg should rip that prop almost. Cheers

Nice job Jon looks great a nice set up trays etc. Mmmmm that Spinner is a bit of a bummer maybe a bit more balancing might be in order not Hard to do especially if going to higher RPM ( Had and Extra once with Scale Spinner tried it before a Balance and it started to rip engine of mount and even after balance still wasn,t great fitted standard Spinner in the end) ya probably looking at 6 to 7000rpm. Yeah Vario,s great peice of kit. Looking forward to the next kit. Must be scary when ya used to Suck and Blow and ya currently got a Meat Cleaver up Front ;0) be well Carry on.
Thanks Nick. Yea. I'm going to rotate the spinner to see if it gets better. fortunately it's carbon, weighs almost nothing and all the fastening mass is on the backplate. This is probably the reason that skymaster suggests that it is ok to run.
Another awesome build as usual. Looking forward to seeing it fly. How is Sebart PC-21 with the X45TP doing? I have one on order and i am looking at getting the T-1 models PC-21. Also that vario prop is going to be awesome.
Am I seeing this right? It looks like the engine is slightly aimed to the right of the center line. When you balance the plane for CG. Did you use half a tank of fuel or empty??
Yes that is correct. Your eyes aren't playing tricks. All prop aircraft have this. It tends to be more visible on something like a turbo prop as the power section is so long. I always balance for CG in landing condition. So about 1/4 tank of fuel in the main tank.
@The Lighter Side Of RC Thank you very much the information will be useful. My landing gear is ,fixed. Slightly different situation. Did you use the Vanessa Setup??
When making your servo leads, what brand of crimp connectors are you using and what brand/type of crimp pliers do you use. I have a few and they are not very good. They get the job done, but want to see if there is better out there. Thanks.
Haha. As I was recording the last bit of the pc video I realized the big red plane was in the background. Dang!!!! Oh well. That’s one of the struggles of things not always happening in order in the shop and on videos.
I noticed the wobble in the nose cone also. Not Good. This will eventually destroy bearings or cause a catastrophic event no matter of the nose cone weight. Any type of turbine engine MUST have balance due to RPM. Good luck.
There is a large intake below the prop. This funnels back through ducts to behind the firewall so the engine has a good supply of fresh air. Additionally there are multiple holes and inlets over the fuselage as well.
I just notice that on the real PC-21 the exhaust pipes are INDEED angled, the right is pointing up and left pointing down .... You can see on this video of the PC-21 Axalp 2022, th-cam.com/video/uTTLOp3J7ks/w-d-xo.html
Your battery connector layout is stupid. Make all 2s red, why the hell would you choose a different color for the other side? And why would you use more than one 2s anyways? It would be much better to connect the batterys 2s3p on a bus and use fuses to prevent overcharge from eg. landing gear. Much safer. And use an arudino to monitor voltage and refuse to gear up if battery is below 7,57 or something like that.

why is the engine mounted at an angle to the centerline of the aircraft ?
Thrust line compensation. couple degrees of down and couple degrees to the side. Without it, wouldn't track straight.
