    If you want-you can also simply choose a San Serif Font > Expand Appearance > 3D Extrude & Bevel > Isometric Right > Expand Appearance - From there you have solid dimensions and can work within surfaces.

    Hi Ian, you can also change the layer properties and set it to 'template'. That reduces the opacity and locks the layer as well.

    I almost didn't watch this because it's so Tetris-ey and I don't EVER need to start that again. But I'm so glad I did. There's so much on Illustrator I still don't know, and it's hard to know where to learn without watching a beginners tute drone on about the pen tool when I just want to know one thing about patterns or compound paths or whatever. This also taught me so much about lettering. Three squares by five! Perfect! I want to print this isometric grid just to use as a lettering guide with pencil. Thanks a bunch for directing us to the source. God bless. 👍🏼👏🏽

      +Rebekah Dorris I think I've been through a load of tutorials myself that go on for ages that I wanted mine to be a bit more to the point and easy to follow. Glad you found it useful.

      I was just searching for a tute on creating isometric people, Minecraft style, and happened upon this again! So helpful although, as usual, yours happens more smoothly than mine! Still not sure how to do this without creating several layers, but I'm going to replay again and again till I get it. So cool how you post these and people need them way down the road :)

    One question: Is there a way to make it the pen tool automatically constrain to 30 degrees rather than only 90 or 45? The way you're doing it looks so simple, but I keep missing the diagonal lines because hitting shift only works for the vertical lines.

    You prefer to redraw (draw over) the blocks to fill with the dot pattern, rather than just filling the existing block?

    • @IanBarnard
      @IanBarnard  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not all of the block paths are closed up, some were just lines. Just my process of doing things!
