Reacting to the legend, Tupac and his song Brenda's got a baby check's off a bucket list item for our channel. Showing Alexis the power of Pac's writing and talent in a song that he wrote when he was just 19 years old. A true generational talent that I was lucky enough be able to say I saw him from the beginning, all the way through the tragic end. Me and my wife always talk about we lived in the time of Tupac. One of my favorite artists of all time.

It's based on a true story he read about a 12 year old girl, who was pregnant by her cousin and threw the baby in the dumpster. It happened more often than you think in the 80's.

The song is about an article Tupac read while filming the movie Juice. About this situation. He's telling the story of the baby he's holding throughout the video (Brenda's Baby). Omar Epps (star of Juice) explains it in a recent interview.

Tupac's inspiration for "Brenda's Got a Baby" came from a real-life news article he had read about a 12-year-old girl who became pregnant and tried to dispose of her baby by throwing it in a dumpster. The baby was found dead, and the young girl was eventually arrested and charged with murder. Tupac was deeply moved by this tragedy and felt compelled to tell the story of Brenda, a fictional character inspired by the real-life incident, through his music. The song addresses issues such as poverty, teenage pregnancy, and the struggles of young mothers in inner-city communities. It was released in 1991 and became one of Tupac's most well-known and critically acclaimed songs.

But, In the same article it does talk about an earlier incident in which a woman strangled her newborn bab

At the hospital, doctors determined that she had just given birth. They notified the police, who searched her apartment and the bags of garbage piled in front of the project."
Ms. Larrier was arrested yesterday at 5 P.M. and charged with homicide. The Medical Examiner’s Officer determined that the infant had died of strangulation, the police said."

Tupac taking the baby away in my view was him showing that the baby was now the responsibility of the community. Like he was saying in the first verse. He plays the role of the community as a whole watching this all play out and it ultimately being the community’s responsibility to their own members.

This was actually a true story. It impacted Pac so much he wrote the song. You will hear Pac rap about a couple slain kids like Latosha Harlan and Robert "Yummy" Sandifer. More Pac reactions please lol.

@@flickeringboxofficial I've actually read the article that Tupac based this song off and there are some details that Pac changed. For example in the song It says that Brenda didn't really know her mom and that her dad was a junior. but actually her parents were killed in a house fire.

What separates 2Pac from other artists is that people of all ages, races, class, and cultures understood his raw and unapologetic passion. He could speak about real societal issues that most ppl are afraid to speak about! He’s truly the GOAT!
Random Fact: On the set of the film "Juice", during downtime 2Pac read about this story from the newspapers and decided to write this classic song. 👑

This is how I feel exactly. I've always said that Tupac is my favorite rapper because he wasn't afraid to show all sides of being human. We get California Love, but we also get Dear Mama. We get I get around, but we also get Brenda had a baby. He was so amazing. Beautiful mind, tortured soul.

Tupac was a powerful writer and was simply one of the best. The logo on the beanie was the UNLV Running Rebels Logo.
This is one of the deepest songs ever written and easily one of the top 5 best songs ever written. And by a 19 year old black male in the early 90s. Most 19 year old black males we not even thinking about this stuff let alone writing about it!

Hopefully someone has let you know that he created this song after hearing about Brenda’s death on the news. Brenda was a real little girl that went through that. She is one of many. Which is why he decided to write about it.

This was a true story..Tupac saw this on the news and wanted Washington to step up tougher penalties for molesters..and parents who don’t watch their kids..cause it’s almost like they knew it was happening and did nothing to protect her..the mother died but the child became a ward of the state and someone raised her
Such a sad story Shantal. It's hard to wrap your head around a 19 year old being so socially conscious and brave. I was such a huge fan back then, we are roughly the same age, but now that I am older I am even more in awe.

Yep...like its a whole nother world that she cant fathom exists...trauma is real in the black community and it crosses many lines...some not familiar with the plight of black ppl minimize our struggles then suggest that we "pull ourselves up by our boot straps" ...glad her father is educating her....

The goat, I’m 42 and still think what the world would look like if PAC hadn’t died so young. He made a huge impact in the short time he was with us, now imagine what achievements we would have seen had he lived. RIP PAC ❤
In my opinion, his early works were the most introspective and motivational version of Tupac. As for the line about being from the ghetto not impacting a persons growth, it's a positive and aspirational interpretation but it's idealistic to translate it to mean that environment and conditions do not impact an individuals success. I think Tupac was saying don't limit yourself. St the same time everyone knows that environment is important. It's like throwing grass seeds in barren, polluted fields then expecting them to grow at the same rate and brilliance as a watered, fertilized field. Some grass will sprout in the worst conditions but don't confuse the exception for the rule.

I have not heard of a newborn in the trash in awhile, which is good but I am sure that it still happens. I use to hear it on the news every once in awhile that this would happen. The one I remember the most, was a newborn was found in the trash at the college I attended in the first year. I would imagine that the mother was a bit older than 12 years old but still does not matter. A child not knowing what to do, and having a child. Could have even been from the high school. Was found outside in the back of the building. I am not sure they ever said if they found the mother or not, never heard. This was a very small town too. Lots of things happened, that if you were not there you would never know. This was long before social media.
I think it happens less now but then again we had one here in Florida last year. Sad to think, how many go unreported or not noticed? Heartbreaking
The video was shot in the alley across the street from the housing projects I grew up in. Location: Downtown Oakland. On Harrison St between 12th and 13th street. E40 also shot his "Things Will Never Change" MV in the same alley. In the background you see my boy's dad on the balcony lol. True story. Tupac fan forever. Miss you. RIP.
