BR appreciating a movie so quickly itself speaks about it. In Tamil cinema it's always Kamal vs Rest... Kamal movies are always performance packed, acting and content. Today people judge a success of movie by its collection's. But most of us failed to recognize & appreciate the hard work and performance. But Lokesh & Kamal finally nailed it. What a movie. Every character lived with it. Best point is handling all major.actors in one movie by giving equal importance. That's where Lokesh stands out. I don't know whether this movie will make 500 or 1000 Cr. But this Vikram is above all the BLOCKBUSTERS.Well done Vikram team.

Just finished watching this masterpiece. I wish I knew Tamil so that I could have understood the references to Kamal Haasan's previous films and eccentricities of the Tamil culture better. I am not fairly well acquainted to South Indian cinema but what I have come to love about Tamil cinema in particular is that it hits the right spot between the technical prowess of Malayalam cinema and the styling of the Telugu cinema. While it takes a some level of familiarity with film making to fully appreciate the beauty of Malayalam cinema, mainstream Telugu cinema over the years has come to become over-reliant on melodramatic portrayals and VFX. Here's where Tamil cinema shines, the writing is top-notch while the treatment is stylish just enough to keep you hooked.
Lots of love from Uttarakhand to the Tamil film industry and the Tamil audience.

Spoiler ahead (after 2 months of theatrical release though) - why associates of Vikram (Agents Uppiliappan, Lawrence) giving clues to Amar which is taking Amar closer to Vikram during the investigation? Vikram's associates should give clues which will take Amar in direction away from Vikram right? What is the understanding there?

@Rooster - you are a TRUE cinema lover who appreciates the right essence of film making which consists of writing, appropriate use of action sequence that travels all along the screenplay followed by high points of every character. This film has incorporated all of these things.. not only that every supporting character has a content and the way it was revealed, I was mind blown. Good to see a proper cinema lovers who do not supporting cringe action masala and over the top vfx and glamour. Tamil audience and TN has always been welcoming anybody and everybody from different parts of our country. For eg. when I was 10 yrs old, kayamat se kayamatak ran for 365 days here in Chennai. Those who come to our state, we make them big and help them lead a prosperous life. In return, those who occupied Chennai and parts of TN, always talk ill of the state. We are made to be slaves in our own state by other state people. Having said that, we don't stop welcoming them because that is our culture and you are welcome to stay and live in our state brother Love from THAMIZH NADU 🙏

You're always welcome to come down to TN, learn Tamil and cheer your favourite actors with greater comprehension, my friend ... if you know one South Indian language, you will understand others fairly. I am sure this is the same with related languages in the North, West and East 🙂

I was totally engaged with the movie from start to finish. Fafa, VJ and all the characters gave such a wonderful performance but Kamal's acting is a class apart and I wouldn't compare him with any other actor. In this movie his subtelty stood out for me. His interactions with the baby are priceless.

Vikram, contrary to its success, is not a movie with flawless script. It doesn’t deserve this big success unless our audience are wrong. If the audience doesn’t look for honest script if the movie is engaged by only high voltage stars and scenes then we would give this big success to this movie. Otherwise this script is as faulty as a script from 80s and 90s times. Compared to those times now we have better camera, equipment and technology. And Lokesh is brilliant in using them. The team seriously sets a new tone on screen which is the main great thing in this movie. The performances of the stars, the stunt choreography are great. But more than anything this movie met big success because audience were on great hype even before they entered the theatre by so many external factors Kamal, Lokesh is a fanboy of Kamal, Lcu, Fahad and VJs.
What we expected from Lokesh after seeing maanagaram, kaithi is flawless plots and proper establishment of characters and plots. He established Bhavani in master with high excellence and the character arc of Bhavani was so great. Here he has made a mess of Amar’s character. Also so many flaws and questions all through the movie. Many people didn’t notice because they were bought in by the hype outside the cinema hall and they are seeing fireworks on screen which made them not think of the logic. A celebrated filmmaker like Lokesh should not be presenting a flawed script.

We need more highly talented Indian writers and directors like him BUT our cinema has been mostly reactionary in terms of breaking the boundaries of filmmaking and storytelling and making landmark movies and defining genres and subgenres, this need to be changed as quick as possible and which requires our filmmakers and writers to give absolute freedom to make whatever they want however they want only then high quality original films could be made. I understand nothing is truly original in every level but still

    • @deexith9559
      @deexith9559 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

You spelled it right. For a moment, I really thought I’m watching a movie of a different language, cause we don’t often see movies in Indian Cinema that completely relies on the genre and lets the audience to travel into the world of that film. Lokesh has done that brilliantly. More actors should step up and let the writers to do stuff that makes a movie better in every aspect. A lesson to all the actors.

BR’s review seems very fanboy-ish, which is quite unlike him. While this is a very good movie, it’s not without its flaws, the main one being the extended climax sequence which could’ve been made shorter and more muted on the fireworks plus baby related drama. The Vijay Sethupathi character seems monotone with its sledgehammer like persona and could’ve been made more interesting with the cunning displayed by the Vedha character in Vikram Vedha. Kamal should stop spouting Americanisms like “attaboy” and “Roger that” and speak like a regular Indian. But the plot is fantastic and LK maintains a taut pace in the first half with Fahadh absolutely nailing it. LK’s Hollywood influences come through clearly: blue meth from Breaking Bad, Narcos references, Denzel’s self timed fights in The Equalizer, Tenet inspired background score in many scenes. The hand to hand fight scenes improvised by unusual things like a laptop(!) were excellent to watch.

Many were saying that the screenplay was slow and the character establishment went slow. A film of this scale and with connections to other parts needs an establishment like this. Kudos to all the technicians, actors etc.👏🏾 As a movie lover, this movie is in my opinion brilliant and my favorite!! NB it was pity to see that some “reviewers” from other states didn’t understand the essence of the film, moreover some were comparing it to KGF 2, are they really reviewers?!🤦🏾‍♂️ Ulaga nayagan, makkal selvan, fahad faasil and suriya, brilliant and electrifying performance👏🏾

But he does his part so well that it leaves a mark. But Suriya's five minutes were the real clincher that leaves everyone in anticipation. So much so that for the next 10 mins after the movie, I was vividly imagining the next movie with Suriya, Karthi and Kamal Haasan. Almost had the Katappa killing Baahubali effect from Baahubali 1. I can't agree with you this time. Vikram wasn't a good movie, but it was better than the other movies of the year. Before you scream at me, let me tell you why it could have been better. SPOILER ALERT !!!
They say again and again that their business is worth lakhs of crores and that one shipment of that raw drug material itself is worth 1 lakh crore. For Kaithi level villains, they were the lower level, so it's ok, but Vijay Sethupathi is supposed to be higher than them... Why is he and his gang acting like common gangster theru porikki rowdies? With their power, they should be having atleast sub-machine guns and everyone in their gang should be having hand guns. Pistols. Not aruvaa. Who carries knives nowadays? Only the lower tier gangsters. You can buy a helicopter in 100Cr. These people can afford anything! Their influence in politics, cinema and other industries could have made it very powerful, complicated and expanded the world. Like Thani Oruvan
Just imagine a car chase scene with a helicopter. And the kind of scale events you can get with mass mobilisation like with political movements.... The good guys will have to use their entire resources, intelligence and contacts to get through their plan and like Thani Oruvan, it would have been very entertaining. And while the action was good. You keep thinking why are they still coming in lungi and with knives ? Imagine a fight of machine guns... For the first half of the fight, it would be the good guys creatively escsping and blocking... Then it can get very interesting and the choreography method itself will change. It will be a new gun-fu method in India. The first time it's been done in an Indian movie. It would have been amazing.
And guys... think... why does any gangster want money? To live in comfort, power and security. So the more money they get their lifestyle increases including the clothes they wear. It won't be like Soodhu Kavvum doctor level. KGF maadhiri coat-suit illaa na koode. Podra dress urupidiya irukkum. Just a neat, but expensive looking shirt with jeans, or pants, etc.
And Suriya... He's supposed to be the ultimate boss Rolex. And he looks even more street rowdy. Andha level'le yellaam people have to conduct business internationally and sometimes make public appearances also. He should be looking atleast like Ali Bhai in Pokkiri or Vikram in Mahaan. Classy. He can look like KGF Rocky too. Because his level demands that. In that scene he could have shown, that he remembers where he came from and coat'a kazhutti andha thala vettra scene apdiye vechirkalaam. With the same expressions. To show that inside he's still the same ruthless guy.
For a person wanting to protect his family... Why does he unmask himself to the villains in a video camera ? It would have been better if his reveal was with Fahadh Faasil talking about him somewhere else with him practicing his stuff as a montage.
Why did Fahadh Faasil bring the baby back into the active warzone like an idiot? 3 people died just to get the baby out.
The first 40 minutes was awesome and it felt as real as the world of Kaidhi. It was a mystery and a good one. Great acting.
The moment VJS's character was introduced, it turned a bit cheap because of my above concerns ( I actually thought his portions in the trailer were from a flashback and his look would be similar to the first Black and white poster that was released to keep the audience guessing) but the movie was still ok... However.... After the movie, everyone started making mistakes in the decisions they took except for that awesome fight with that maid amma. And getting that feeding bottle scene. Barring that, there were so many logic loopholes in the movie.
Think about it. In Kaidhi. The team drugged some 100 policemen to prevent them from action and almost die. That was such a power move! And so easy to do. Now the same gang but higher level have some more time to plan and they are still going with aruvaa. What a downgrade! Was there nothing original and much scarier to do?
Before his next movie, Lokesh must take a break, go on a vacation to a few other countries and come back and do another movie of a completely different genre. Maybe a clean comedy with romance. Then he may get some fresh perspective and be able to get back his Maanagaram level intelligence for Khaidhi/Vikram 2. Now, I feel he is boxing himself and getting into a rut.

Congrats n Cudos👌👏👍 to KH n LK for taking up our own "Cinematic Universe"... Eagerly waiting for next "Ensemble" movie... I have few points to discuss on the movie though...
    1) How did LK belive that audience would justifiably believing Kamal is dead at the first scene? As much as it gives a high to put director name right after his death, feel like audience would have anyway anticipated 'hero would not have been dead right when movie is started!'
    2) Dialogues of masked men / VJS / that burning man characters not clear (like that Bane from DarkKnightRises)
    3) It is said in the film that Kamal has set up killing himself only to divert anybodys attention away from him as they will think some serial killing group is on the killing spree.. as audience we can/may think like that to divert us initially... but the actual first killer group (who killed Kali.JRam) should not think like that right? They must be terrified like "wtf, someone is trying to copy our methods??", right? This brings next question...
    4) Why was ChembanVJose not shocked (bcz someone using his own method) while seeing someone was killing Kamal in the first scene?
    5) Why did Kamal leave the bug there? Did he anticipate current black squad will come there eventually? If u say he forgot n missed out it there, why there was a scene about bug activating in audio-only mode and it is shown kamal hearing it and throwing it on fire?
    6) Clear character sketch/motive of people with VJS (like bobby simha director in SoodhuKavvum, police boss of VJS in ChekaSivandaVanam) are not there... what was the deal that is happening on the Casino theatre with chennai maps n all?
    7) that bobby simha director is what govt. officer? Why did the police expect him to give the container info and accept their security?
    8) especially that police in that scene is good or bad? Does he know CVJose is involved in drug business and all?
    9) why did CVJose didn't anticipate FahFas team will eventually find out everything and it will all fall back on them?
    10) why did CVJose did not warn VJS about FahFas black squad and ask him to be alert in the first place? (Pest control in HollyWood is OK.. I don't know anyone of us using it in our country😃)
    11) why govt disavowed kamals pilot batch and killed/tried to kill them all? What happened in 1991? (A leader's murder? If yes, whose side this Vikram as a character would have be on? Govt or opposite?)
    12) fahfas and Vjs duel during that marriage func is not necessary in the story as i already said CVJose could have already warned VJS about fahfas team
    13) what is the motive for fhfas to keep bombs inside VJS house? If u say he is fan of Vikram, at that point of time (while his team went in as Pest control), he possibly didn't even know that Vikram is alive and out on large.. which brings to next question...
    14) exactly at what point Fhfas realises kamal is exblack squad? u may say right at the massive interval block when kamal reveals his face, but Fahfas already has his photo right? I am not getting as to at which exact point fahfas realised that 'this is my idol vikram'?
    15) code red means all VJS drugs would be bombed.. but VJS dialog at that time not clear... why did kamal give him phone and made VJs to say Code Red... everyone knows it means some danger..(remember vjs is only grad doctor in his family)
Some minor but key info below are not clear/not said:
    16) where was Vikram all these years? Why specifically 5 yrs before Kali.JRam adopted him? (We can understand KJRam realises he is 'the' Vikram and thats why he names is son as Vikram.. but why 5 specifically yrs before?
    17) except Kamal n Tina others family not clear not shown...
    18) kamal has both old n young followers.. why not Fahfas team weren't aware about it? Is the Govt. recognize this Fahfas black squad?

While I wish VJS character had more meat to it, I also understand why it is from the film's PoV. We're meant to see his character as a pawn (albeit a powerful one) in this grand scheme, we're not meant to connect and empathize with him the way we do with the other two lead actors. He's meant to be the main antagonistic force, and he absolutely knocks that role out of the park, all things considered.

Kamal is the hero of this story, we all know that....But this information should've been kept as a secret which would've increased its masss by many folds.....what do you think??

I have a great respect to you.. at the same time I hate reviews (not criticism) because.. by will or not u people give away so much of plot with reviews.. so this days it's like I watch the movie first and then the reviews😂

Baradwaj sir, can you please teach our amazing Bollywood critics like Anupama, Sucharita and Desai how to watch and review movies without coming across as biased, arrogant and plain mean?
    Thank you.

If you notice, most of the new so called cinema reviewers on TH-cam or those with low subscribers have been giving out negative reviews of the movie. Some even before the first show 🤦🏻‍♂️. Reason is quite obvious, to attract views to their channels. The more interaction, the more their channels will get recommended.

BR - Biased Reviews LoL. Kaithi is generic action film it seems but this is greater somehow ?
The dialogues were bang average, lot of very predictable scenes. Action looked uninspired.
I don't think BR is paid reviewer, but he's not a genuine reviewer if he lets his bias get the better of him like this.
I think Lokesh is the most overhyped director of Tamil cinema. He can't for the life of me write a good female character or dialogue. I don't know for how long he will try to survive with one line stories. When you consider Karthik subbaraj's mahaan - even though it wasn't a great film, you can see the character arc's and journeys of each character there. I haven't seen any character having any weight in Lokesh's movies
Edit: I really enjoyed first half, second half was shallow and nothing was there
