Recreating the same song by Catherine Zeta Jones in the film version of Chicago..man to see another UK performer do this song with a perfect american accent.
It was Zeta Jones that recreated the song from the play, not the other way around. Amazing economy and power and atmosphere in these 8 minutes that the movie drags out for 10:30 and only manages to keep it that short by completely obliterating Fossie's fantastic choreography by interruption it with expanded plot material and we end up with a sniffling ,whining Roxie saying, after the murder, "You lied to me," instead of the eloquent, "I gotta pee." The Fossie choreography adds the cynicism and sophistication atmosphere to the play that the movie never achieves. And having the working the murder in as part of the song and dancing gives the play a punch that the movie sadly lacks. Jones does sing it well, however. Too bad she didn't get to do Fossie's moves.
@@bunkaunk YES. I wasn't a fan of the film's choreography. I don't know why the Fosse style was ignored in the film. It's unique and one-of-a-kind and adds a ton of sexuality but with grace and with taste. The film's choreography is thoroughly unimpressive. never once do you find yourself thinking "wow, that was a great set of moves" or never do you feel the choreography has anything to say and it should like the choreography in this production created by Ann Reinking in the style of Fosse, the original Roxie Hart of the 1996 Broadway revival which is what this production is as well.
Samantha Barks was in the Hollywood Bowl production of Chicago and she sang and talked like a American with her American accent.
Aplauze!!! Applauze!!!
Wonderful rendition indeed! I salute the choreographer and the amazing work of the artists.
The choreographer was Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse.
