You are a very good teacher. I am interested in making some homemade cold process soap for the first time in over 10 years. So I’ve been watching a lot of TH-cam videos to help me get ready again. You really have made some ideas much more clear to me. Thank you!
I prefer, forcing all of my soap to go through gel phase because it lasts twice as long when I’m using the bars, and I simply like the feel of it better.
@@ely42609 after making a cold pressed batch I preheat my oven by turning it on 350 for about three minutes then turn it off and then I wrapped the soap mold in a couple of towels put it in the oven for about 12 hours. about 90% of the time the soap completely gels, but sometimes only most of the middle does unfortunately I haven’t found the perfect yet
Making this today! Also, when you put how much oil can you specify it’s WEIGHT Ounces and not fluid ounces? I had to watch your video and then you mentioned a scale. Thanks!!
It is a matter of preference. Some people swear it makes a harder bar to go through gel phase. I am not convinced. I believe it is mainly for color. Gel phase produces more vibrant colors when you add them. I don't like it when there is a partial gel phase and the center is discolored so I often skip it.
I used this one amzn.to/3tVwdjC I have since read that maybe it's best to buy castor oil in glass jars, so this might be a better choice: amzn.to/3u4kGPa
lard and tallow are great in soap
What an excellent explanation. I haven’t made soap in years and wanted a refresher. Thanks so much.

Interesting! I’ll have to try it!
What is your method if you don't mind me asking?

Can you tell me how many bars of soap you got out of those measurements, please? and how many ounces were with each bar?
What kind of coconut oil did you use for this recipe please?
organic unrefined from Sam's Club
@@theeverydayfarmhouse8722 thanks , Ive made this recipe two times so far. This is my basic home use soap now and I've been using it for a while now.

How much soap did you make here? Did you do 16 ounces for ounces of fragrance oil? Tfs.
My mold is around 40 ounces, I use approx 1 oz of oil per pound of oils. So two ounces for this recipe
How do you get those weights? 10.63 oz
I run the recipe through a lye calculator. Then I use a digital scale to weigh
Why would you want to skip the “gel stage” vs. letting the soap go through the gel stage?
