I'm not aware of any way of having the grade in Classroom but the students not see it. You could choose to not grade it in classroom and just kept the marks elsewhere.
can we make changes in returned work? like if I checked an assignment and returned it to the learner, is it possible to make some more comments or changes if once returned

When I do that pen click, it actually opens up my file instead of the students work.

@@4serrot it only works with the Classroom app. So this would need to be on phone, tablet or Chromebook app

Only if you have an app on the laptop. so i can do it on my Chromebook, but not my Windows PC.

The back and forth of Hand In/Return can go on as long as you want. So there is always opportunity to add more comments later.
