I know John didn't run it in these tests, but the HDR and GP-Log of the 12 are freaking awesome! HDR isn't recommended for fast motion, but GP-Log looks freaking great if you're willing to apply the GoPro supplied LUT to your editing software.
Heck yeah, anything to shake off the funk! And to Barry's point... I did show some HDR and GP-Log footage in my last Hero 12 video :D It was brief, but in there. I'll be running more tests on that soon... but right now I'm digging the Natural look with the Max Lens Mod, which doesn't give you HDR... and I think it drops GP-Log too.
On the Remote thing: I would suggest resetting all remote connections on all devices (the 12, the 10 and whatever else you have). I haven't been experiencing those issues at all, and reset all connections every time I introduce a new cam. I also have an answer about Brighton Dam (Triadelphia Reservoir): This isn't a drought thing. They intentionally drained Triadelphia to "dredge" the ins/outs of the boat ramps. They intended to do it last year, but it never happened. Regardless, why they didn't do that while they had it drained to repair Brighton Dam three years ago is pretty much beyond EVEYBODY. This isn't something that needs to be done but every couple of decades or longer. I couldn't even get an answer out of WSCC... who is conducting the project.
Hmm, I did that. Reset the Remote, too, and had to re-pair each camera. That's interesting about Brighton Dam - I didn't know they even DID that! Too bad you can't get answers... sounds like gov't at work ;)
Yeah, less stretched! As for the colors... it's hard - some hues are similar, some are different... it all depends on how each camera processes color. Most people who use multiple cameras will shoot in LOG or Flat, so they can match them up... I, am not most people :D
@@Mauricenkaren Ahh, gotcha! I think I like that one best, too! [there's less of my helmet in frame] I think the wider lens modes have their use cases, but for everyday recording, Max Wide is where it's at :D
@@RoadReality I am not sure I buy that being for action sports due to GoPros notorious ability to make something about thirty yard ahead look a quarter mile away.🙄
@@RRatedCustoms HAHA, yeah, the distorted FOV certainly does THAT! I just look at whatever promo footage GoPro puts out, and it always seems to skew towards... skewed perspective. Actually, I'm not sure WHY they want the widest FOV [c'mon, 177 degrees? That's just bonkers!] except to show speed. Somehow, the wider footage seems like the person was going faster. Either way, it's too much. I might've found a use for it, but for day-to-day recording, it's just too much. At least they give us the narrower FOV modes.
Great question! I was using 2 batteries of the same vintage, with about the same number of charges on them. So, while both cameras had Enduro batteries, neither of them were from the new pack.
I am using GoPro's The Remote, and nope - the Hero 12 and Remote multicam issue has been fixed! I show it working, in this video: th-cam.com/video/OI5EQ4U7bUQ/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!
For reference, my kayak fishing channel has 1062 subs and am now fully monetized. I think my first month is going to yield around $25. By that math, you'll end up sticking to the 8 until the GoPro 116 Black is released. 🤣
For day - Natural color profile, auto for everything else. Night? Flat, set the white balance to 5500k, auto everything else [but you'll have to color grade]. That's what I'm using.
Interesting John. I may buy a 12 for grins. Since I haven’t posted a video in weeks lol maybe it’ll get me out of the funk.

Definitely liked the wide view a ton better than the other two. Can you can tell the color differences compared to the sony when you were at the dam.

Like the wide view better. Thanks John
Thanks!... but the widest view, or the one called Wide? :D
Max wide

4:33 That superview/max lens was waaaaayyyy distorted. Does your editing software have a way to remove the fisheye effect?
I'm sure Resolve has *something*, but I haven't delved into it - and that super-wide view, it's really distorted for the action sports crowd.

I just got the hero 12, for my bday last month, my first go pro and I love it.
That's awesome, congrats! It's a great camera!
In fairness, were you using two new batteries when running the 10 vs the 12? or was the 10 using a used battery. That would also make a difference
Great question! I was using 2 batteries of the same vintage, with about the same number of charges on them. So, while both cameras had Enduro batteries, neither of them were from the new pack.
Color in Max Wide is very different than the Sony, I like it!!
Yeah, it wasn't quite a 1 for 1 comparison - but it looks pretty good. I think in Natural it might've matched better, TBH.
Are you using the original gopro remote? Or is it the telesin one?
Still having the same issues today?

@RoadReality Thx for the reply!
@MotoMaaskant you're welcome!
I like the color in this video!!! Bright
Thanks! It's au naturale. Or, Natural, if you will.
I think I like the wide, seems a bit more natural. Hyper view is different, but it feels stretched, if that makes sense
100% - it's definitely stretched. I found a use for it... so stay tuned :D
@@RoadReality ah ha! Should have known you’d make it work for something!!
@Motoramblings well, I didnt say it worked... I still have to go through the footage
@@RoadReality 😂🤣
The clarity of video looks great. But I’ll not be changing from my Hero8 till after I make my first $1,000,000 off of TH-cam 😂😂😂😂👍

Yeah, that's a long time - even for someone with 1 million subs, it would take a heck of a lot of views to get there... best to buy it now :D
Yeah, that math checks out, Barry. My ROI for this channel is something like 2042.
😂🤣
I have first time buy go pro 12 tell me its best settings? Day and Night settings plz sir halp me

did you set the 12 to PRO and high bitrate with 10 bit?
I set it to high bitrate and 10-bit recording - not sure what you mean by PRO though?
Nice job - very cool
Thanks!
Yeah but wider field of view also means more barrel distortion which Is not so pleasant.
Yeah, you're right about THAT. I recorded [but haven't edited] a longer-form test of this... and I'm REALLY curious how it turns out. We shall see. :D
👍
Good video... but I'm indifferent about the product. Thanks for saving me some money :)
Thanks - it's not for everyone. Depending on how you're using a GoPro, it can be hugely beneficial.
I got to pull the trigger 👍👍👍
It's pretty awesome so far :D
No Mantras….😢
I know, right? :(

🎉 Look, YT gives me emojis to respond with, since I haven't figured out how to type them or enter them some other way.
