I also love the Knickerbocker. Raspberry syrup works with rum so well. Thanks for making this video. Mixing and changing up our syrups can really make drinks awesome.
Nice! Going to make me some Crème de Mure this weekend and make the Rum Runner. I think I'm going to either try the Veritas or Clairin Communal. I'd think a fresh rum would balance nicely with the somewhat heavier liqueurs... But that Worthy Park version sounded amazing as well! 😅
Great cocktail, especially for a hot Sunday afternoon in the US Midwest! I had everything I needed on the shelf and it is very nice. I think I will maybe cut back a smidge on the grenadine, maybe 1/2 Oz next time, but very nice, indeed. I used Hamilton 151 Demerara as that was the only 151 I had. I also used the Tempus Fugit Banana and Giffard Crème de Mure. Really good. Thanks for bringing this one back to the fore!! I also pulled it up in my Beachbum Berry’s Total Tiki app for reference. Thanks again and Cheers!
Ok, I literally made a rum runner last night. I was thinking why do I never make this, because I love them so much. Can play with so many rums in this cocktail, which we love and I love banana liqueur. About the banana liqueur. I do have both of these liqueurs brands at home. I do agree I think the Tempest fugit taste a bit like cough syrup on it’s own, It’s very thick. I find the Giffard’s a bit thinner and not as banana forward. But they are both great in different applications depending on the cocktail the rum that you’re using. I do think the tempus fugit can come forward. I did that same trial with a disco banana cocktail from the minimalist Tiki book I believe. And I liked the tempus fugit better for that cocktail. So good depending on application. About the Rum, tried mine with Koloa Agricole and ED12. I know, I know, it seems crazy, but I liked it and it’s out there, but I liked the funk and sweet goodness that the agricole brought. And as you may remember, ED12 can’t get enough of it. Good in so, so many cocktails. Cheers Steve.
It’s summer and I love a Rum Runner at this time of year. I agree, totally underrated! And you’re right, the banana liquor and rum choice make a WORLD of difference. I think that it’s often made with cheap spirits and that’s why it gets a bad reputation.
I tried your Rum Runner recipe and found some interesting things. I did the split the Rum between Jamaican Coruba and el Dorado 8 Demerara, used crushed ice not blended. Then the big mistake happened. (How bad is my French!) I grabbed the Cassis instead of the Mûre. Ha. So I had to make a second correct one. Interestingly enough I liked the Cassis more than the Blackberry (although it could be cut back 5 ml). My wife preferred the Mûre as the banana came through better. But the Rum Runner is a good drink not dependant on a bunch of fruit juices with a very different taste. And the Rum, although important is not the star. I’ll keep that recipe for sure.
👍🏼 i will have to try this one, I think based on what you picked, i have rum bar gold, worthy park single cane estate, skipper or maybe barcelo imperial, i have a lot to choose from so we shall see. secondly will i be spotting you at rum fest in manchester again in a couple of weeks? myself and Ben will be going again, tried to get my dad to join us but his mate won't book time off to join him so he doesn't wanna come on his own
Your view….I was always told a cocktail should not exceed 3 ounces (mixed alcohols)…anything more than that became a “long drink” and not a cocktail. N
When you made this a couple of years ago i tried and loved it - i used bacardi 8 but as my palette has moved on I defo wana try it with a Jamaican rum! 🫐🍌🍹

I'm actually making this this weekend. Very excited to try it.

Cheers, and we are celebrating Midsummer Eve in Norway today, so you might need to get a fire going and celebrate too.
👍🏼 definitely going to try it!
Love the rum runner. My go to rum mix is 1oz each of Plantation 3star and OFTD

My go to is a split base of OFTD and Rhum Barbancourt White. I can’t explain why but it seams to make the banana punch out for me.
Love the Rum Runner as well! The only difference between my recipe is that I use Smith & Cross as well as Probitas and sub in Giffard Cassis Noir
Hi Steve, I wonder how Don Q7 would work in this drink & the creme de mure dialled back slightly to let the banana liquor shine even more.
I will go with appleton estate and Cream da banana...👍🏾
I'll have to try a blind test with Worthypark Select compared to Dropworks Spice drop and Funk drop to see how that works
Hi Steve, interesting show as always. I have Giffard Creme de banane.
Nick from York
How about Don Q 151?

Hamilton 151 or OFTD?
I would use 1.5 ounces Plantation 3 Star and 0.5 ounces Smith and Cross.
👍👍
👍🏻
to me every banana cocktail tastes better with jamaican rum 👍

Just can’t get into Tiki drinks. I have tried! Usually too sweet! Too much juice.
Plantation OFTD
