Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: www.romhacking...
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- Albion HP: 2700 → 10000
- Physical affinity: Neutral → Void
- Zoa HP: 1300 → 4500
Double upload! Albion voids phys now, so the trick for a (relatively) quick victory is to take down one of the Zoa, then spam multi target spells of the opposite element. It reminds me of the final Harihara fight in DDS1 actually. While it's still not particularly difficult I do appreciate that there's an actual point to the elemental gimmick now instead of just spamming phys skills to win, although if you get a freeze off on Albion of course you want to slam him with a Hell Thrust. Stasis Blade crits on Demi are scary as hell, but a phys resist magatama is not an option since we still have to keep working towards those element void passives. I have at least routed it so he voids fire and force here, and by the time we get to Trumpeter he'll be virtually invulnerable to all elemental magic.
Side note: the minions give more XP here than in my previous run, but I don't think their base yield has been increased. Rather it's their level that's been increased, and Nocturne has a system whereby as you level the XP given is reduced. So far we're about 6k XP up on the vanilla run, which still isn't enough to make a difference to our finishing level.

I only just recently learned that evolving a demon who was powered up through sacrificial fusion can cause the evolved form to retain the raised level of the original. At least, that's what it looks like considering Arahabaki at the end (and a few of my own tests I did).
@@steam-powereddolphin5449 Yep, the base level is only a floor. So for example if you evolve a Momunofu below level 30 it'll jump to level 30 when it becomes Arahabaki, but evolution will never cause anything to lose levels.

In non-challenge runs Albion is your best friend because he's Phys Drain fodder, basically lets you turn all your demons into Arahabaki.
Coming from one year in the future in the middle of my first Nocturne playthrough (PS2 version) to confirm this. Albion is a godsend; now I just gotta get Aciel(sp?) for Victory Cry and I'll be in business.
@@hijinx7267 Not really, because by the time you get Victory Cry, the game is already over - the earliest you can get it is lv. 81 unless you get ridiculous lucky with a skill morph.

@@derpi3438 Albion only does physical attacks and doesn't have a way to counter them.
So if you have demons with Phys Drain, he can't do a thing.

Phys attacks onto frozen units ignore void phys? I learn something new every day.
Yep. Not shocked units though. Shock guarantees a crit, while freeze does this and ignores all resistances, even repel.

how much time does it take you to plan out a boss, skills, fusions, skill mutations, etc?
I'll spend a few hours planning a batch, then I'll rip through them, then I'll take stock and plan the next few. Atm I know what I'm doing up to the angel/futomimi fights, then no idea beyond that besides taking Hanuman to Metatron.

1:05 Weird. It looks like his body/face (same thing I guess) is still there, but all the particle effects disappear. Dunno if this happens on console or if it's just emulation jank.

Nope, only Trumpeter does, the rest generally void one or the other of Expel/Death and ailment voids are either nerfed or gone completely in most cases.
IMO Daisoujou is still really good btw, you just have to fuse Prayer onto him yourself, but this is easy enough with the Nue from the 2nd kalpa. I could totally be using him for this run and there's no real reason why I'm not, just didn't feel like it.
Black Rider is arguably the best fiend because he still voids all ailments and Soul Divide destroys the ludicrously beefy random encounters. Not that I'd ever get to use him on this run
