  • At least 4,000 prisoners have been released early from prisons and more are set to join them, courtesy of a presidential pardon. Interior Cabinet Minister Joseph Ole Lenku promised at the Kamiti Maximum Prison that more inmates would be pardoned in a bid to decongest the prisons. The high number of pardons rekindles attention on the re-integration into society of prisoners amid recent reports of many former inmates lapsing into crime. But as Sylvia Chebet reports, the prison warders tasked with securing the jails are sulking over pay perks.
