    What a great set up! Plenty of ideas for the boat builders to look at, especially if costs can be reasonable.....

    This hybrid solution on an FPB 97 with solar and a dozen batteries = my dream boat 🛥 😍 😍 😍

    One thing some sailboats have is a propeller that's basically an electrical generator, you get some drag (of course) but charges the electrics. This system would be amazing if, under diesel power, the same electric propellers stayed in the water but instead of being mere drag they acted as a hydro-generator.

      That would be horribly inefficient. You'd use less extra fuel by using the diesel generator.

    Just saw this legacy piece. Fascinating Nick. Thanks for sharing. The Hybrid redundancies seem very logical and desirable. Why hasn’t this approach caught on in main stream marketing rather than after market.? Is it super expensive? Wonder if anyone is offering this in USA (Florida) . Going to the Palm Beach boat show is March/‘22. If I see this I’ll let you know. Cheers!

    That should keep the yachties from complaining in an anchorage. ;-)

    Well of course Phil Mitchell would want a silent all weather go anywhere boat, perfect for dumping bodies at sea. I never knew Steve MacFadden was such a boat lover, and electric power too! Does he take it down to the Med? What a run that would be...

      There are companies who ferry boats, by truck, to the Med & back. It's a lot cheaper than piloting them.

    These are awesome. They could be a 'trailer sailor in Australia' with a Ram or other big truck to tow.The 23 is beautiful also. Plus they come with outboard... Yes they are powerful enough. Put two 250hp Mercs on the back.... These would seem to be arguably best in their class (by far, the finish even in the videos is obviously superior) vs Whittley, vs Jeanneau MF 795, Vs Arvor 755. Seems like there is no Australian dealers (for the 23 OB!).

    often wondered if someone would try this kind of diesel electric hybrid system this shows its superior in every way to just diesel propulsion, if there were 5 batteries instead of the 3 installed I imagine it would do 8 knots easily all running of a smallish generator imagine the huge increase at displacement speed for touring range ~ then voila diesel performance at the flick of a few switches , now if only Sunseeker or Princess or Fairline take this idea on board!

      Adding two more batteries would increase the endurance, but would not by themselves increase the speed; that would require bigger motors.

    I wonder what the range is at 5 knots on the motors?

    • @darthkek1953
      @darthkek1953 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      5 knots per hour for 8 hours is 46 miles. That's assuming full battery banks and no use of the generator to top the batteries up (and of course, not using the air con or icemaker).
