    Where do I look to find training on making these belts

    What if the plates are already curved? Would it be hard to mold?

    What would you suggest for the process of creating an original mold as opposed to a replica mold? I've seen people suggest printing on to card, but it always looks very rough and unprofessional. Any tips there? Great video btw

      I'm not sure what you mean by replica mold or printing onto a card. do you have more information?

      @@irondrakeStudios Well here you're making a mold from an existing belt, I was just wandering how you would advise someone make an original mold from their own design?
      I had spoke to someone previously who suggested thick pieces of card with elements of the design printed on to it, glued together and then molded, but he showed me things he had made with this method and they looked very rough and a lot of the detail was missing from their actual designs and such.
      Hope that makes a little more sense, sorry for the vagueness of the original comment, haha.

    How much do the plates weigh?

    • @irondrakeStudios
      @irondrakeStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      only about a pound. you can always add Tungsten weights to increase this

    Is the original master plate cnc machined elsewhere or is that hand cast?

      Thanks for your question. The original plate is etched.

      We will be making a video showing how to etch your own plates at home in the near future. Keep watching.

    Can you bend the main plates?

    • @irondrakeStudios
      @irondrakeStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Once the resin has set a bit, but not fully hardened, you can prop the edges of the mold up, I have blocks for this. Usually 15 minutes after pouring the resin. Then let it sit for a couple hours to harden and retain the curve before demolding. I don't do this for the smaller main plate, but for the US and Television plates I do.

    Do all belts eventually rust/tarnish? Is there a way to prevent that from happening?

    • @irondrakeStudios
      @irondrakeStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. There are clearcoats that can be applied, like automotive 2K, though these are expensive and time consuming to apply. Otherwise you have to be vigilant, and keep up on the care. some thin plating does not come back from tarnish, and eventually pit marks appear. Ammonia-free window cleaner is among the best daily cleaner.

    what resin did you use? i didn't understand very well, to get the metallic finish

    • @irondrakeStudios
      @irondrakeStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the resin itself doesn't matter as much. The metallic finish is from using real metal powder (nickel, copper, brass) in the resin. I use the Smooth-On Onyx black resin to help bring out the metallic colors better.
      There is a link in the description for a video by Smooth-On that shows more of the molding casting, and adding other colored powders..

    What is the cost in material for 1 belt 5 piece without the mold? Thanks you.

    • @sivant79
      @sivant79 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vincent Lapointe cost of materials is about $85. That's price of resin, plus shipping, esse release, mixing cups, stirrers, screw posts, cost of the metal powder varies depending on which you put in.
