This video did not explain anything about asbestos. There is 6 regulated asbestos minerals Chrysotile (most common), Amosite, Tremolite, Anthophyllite, Crocidolite, and actinolite. The one on the video is called Chrysotile.
I have a 12 x 24 " and 12 x 12 ceiling tile. Both are painted white and stapled to the ceiling. The 12 x 24 got brown splots when exposed to rain, the 12 x 12 remained white. Old home.. Any thoughts if one or both have asbestos?
In western countries asbestos has been banned to trade and/or use in new projects since 1990 already, so there is no need to ask for an alternative material to prevent deaths. It’s just a matter of cleaning up what’s left in society.
@@Engineer9736 Fiberglass is made out of glass or quartz which is a mineral and it melts more than burns. And asbestos is still used today in 2022 as it's never been banned completely. This video is very basic and I'm looking for a more detailed video on analyzing asbestos. I just want to review the procedures for kicks. I use to do this type of work in a NVLAP certified lab and took a course in asbestos bulk sampling and analysis down at the University of Alabama Birmingham 30 years ago. I forgot most of what I learned but with a quick review it will all come back to me. BTW that was Chrysotile Asbestos in a RI liquid of 1.550.
At 0:18 (stereo microscope) you can see the sample is inclosed, once inside the negative air hood the sample cover is taken off. With a proper hepa filtered negative air running.. If any disturbed microphibers detach from the sample they get sucked into the filter (hopefully) at 0:50 (still under nagative air filtration) the stereo microscope located fibers that are now being extracted to identify on the slide for Polorised Light Microscope to see if they are (chrysotile) asbestos as 'congsan3528' mentioned. It's pretty impressive that this was posted online. As you probably have found out, lab footage of asbestos I.D. is not so common under PLM.
If your getting your roof replaced avoid Ailsa Building Ltd at all costs , Walked out my door today and the was about 3-4 guys on the scaffolding above me dancing n singing to the radio and one guy brushed a pile of asbestos on top of my head , A was like WTF! There 3-4 you's on the roof can one of you's not watch for people coming out there door , And he started laughing , No warning no signs , Health and saftey hazardous , You think they would dispose of hazard materials in a safer manner instead of brushing it on the path way for everyone to walk it into there House'
You should report them to the EPA immediately. That is a serious health hazard that you might have to get checked out. Also go read up on lead containment RRP rules and get pictures of everything.

@@georgefallon I'm sorry about your father, m8. I can relate. All the boomers 60's in my family are having similar trouble. Only thing I can see so far is they didn't eat in moderation like their parents, who passed in their late 90's. Overdoing sugar, dairy, and carbs needs to be considered. Good luck, try not to stress out too much while forging ahead. Live long and well, m8.
NileRed: On the microscopic scale, though, it's actually a bunch of silica-based needles...
Me: Pics or it didn't happen :P
Why did you delete your reply from @partygoer's comment?

Helpful, thank you!
There seems to be an increase in asbestos related deaths. Isn't there an alternative material?
Fibreglass

@@gareththompson9540 Fibreglass burns really easy. It’s a good solution but aside of asbestos being deadly it had great characteristics.

Now we use fiberglass, mainly.
Do you need a circular polarizer filter to see this effect?
It's not an effect, it shows what azbestos looks like, and they will never leave your lungs

The asbestos fibres is fixed on the slide. safe without heavy PPE
