I’m rebuilding my transfer case on my 2015 c300 4matic, 722.9. is there a part number for the hex bolt removed at 16:00 ??? Have everything mostly back together but am having trouble referencing if the bolt I purchased is the same one
Hey Garry, did you ever record a videos of the rebuild of a 722.9?..... or does the viewer assume that the reassembly is just the reversal of the teardown process?
Great vid! Thanks for posting these. Can you post a parts list for the rebuild kit please? I have a 2006 ML500 I bought cheap with a trans that works occasionally, slips, doesn't want to engage, I figure it needs a similar rebuild. I redid a conductor plate/TCM on an 04E500 ($900 car, very nice otherwise) that solved that problem but have not torn into the guts on these boxes. Your vids on the 722.9 are awesome!
The inductor plate on a 722.9 is a totally different animal than the 722.6. On the 9 speed the transmission computer is part of the plate. It's a 4 figure part, and locked away behind TRP. TRP is what Mercedes calls Theft Relevant Parts. You need to have a commercial garage keepers insurance policy, as well as be bonded to purchase the part. It will not otherwise be sold over the counter. Finally, the part must be new as a used one cannot be reprogrammed to another vehicle. At least not through official channels. There are "hackers" out there that use black market tools to clone a used module but good luck. They are harder to find than hens' teeth, and in my experience it will work, but the OBD system will have glitches later on.
@@LynxStarAuto thanks for the reply. I have actually installed a reprogrammed used CP/TCM in a 722.9 and it works fine so I’m familiar with that process. This other vehicle has lost fluid pressure but the CP/TCM controls work ok, just doesn’t have enough pressure to do transmission stuff. Rebuild time! Your vids are awesome, I really enjoy and appreciate your work.
In this scenario; is the point that the transmission shop says I need a new transmission rather than the individual component repairs? Seems like a lot has went south on this 722.9. Being the owner of a non-4-matic 722.9 that occasionally has a jerky shift from 1-2, this has me interested. Please keep the Benz 722.9's coming! Lots to lean here.
Not sure there is a part number, not sold separately, i always have to go good used on that. I was talking to another shop once that sourced out a new one that came from poland@@alexandercleve5316
Hallo Gary ,if u could maybe help, I've got a Mitsubishi V4A51 Auto box, it won't shift into 4rth gear ,ie no response to 4rth gear no matter in what position the overdrive button is in .the o/d light does function correctly, the Auto lec said no problem, it's in the box .I fitted a complete different valvebody inc solenoids, no difference, new speed sensors no difference, I've stripped the complete box ,can't see anything wrong. No fault codes, don't know where to from here !!!.
Hi Gary from Belarus. It's a great video again. But I have some problem with ML 350. He had a torque convertor vibration when speed was from 75 to 90 km/h. We rebuilded torque converter, checked all clutch clearences and cleaned VB, new oil and new filter. And after this we have rpm rising when 1-2 shifting and sometimes hard 1-2 shifting. I did VB vacuum test and found that supply pressure regulator valves had 14 Hg instead 18 Hg. Is this a key of my problem? What do you think?
bore may be worn out, I do valvebodies in everyone i rebuild now. I bore is worn out, oversized valve will need to be installed, you can se what Sonnax has for this unit.@@НиколайГринько-ю3ч
Shop says torque converter lock issue or transmission on this same transmission. No codes reported. Would you recommend changing the torque converter. The issue is vibration at stop. All mounts replaced. Thanks
very good video. I have a question, I have been working with a 722.9 gearbox for more than 1 month, I changed all the clutch discs with an international pressure master kit, everything new, the orings and rings are also new. I have a leak in the K2, the K2 clutch engages but loses pressure. Perform the test with air using the test holes indicated in the manual. Has it happened to anyone?
@@GaryFerraro Yes, just check the drum by sending air through the shaft and the drum does not leak. but when I carry out the test through the hole in the box, the drum applies but it is not applied, the air comes out
very hard to get a solid air check on the drum, i have an air check tool that i use. Did you air check through the pump support before loading everything into the case@@enriquecastro2352
@ 2:05 So, basically, you had codes indicating the typical conductor plate issues these transmissions are well-known for, and you decided it would be a good idea to just rebuild the whole transmission. Mmmmkay. Thanks for reaffirming for me why I will never take any vehicle I own to a repair shop but instead do all my own work. Even if I have to buy a bazillion special tools and electronic gadgets to work on a modern car, I'll still end up paying far less and get much better results.
Nice video! Just a quick question. I have a Mercedes GL also with a 722.9 and when doing a transmission service I found copper/bronze filings in the oil pan. Any idea were the filings would be coming from? Thank you in advance
Gary thank you again for the quick reply. I sent the torque converter out to inspect and rebuild. They said that there was nothing wrong with it. Looking at your video several times and I just don't see any copper or brass. Could it be inside the transmission oil pump or oil cooler?
you need to invest on a better camera and better illumination. Transmission repair requires not only knowledge but bery fine image detail to show damaged parts. I have learned a lot from your videos but the image quality can be improved. Keep up the good work!
Was looking for an ml 500 m113 engine with this transmission, 2006. Actually it's a good old car with good engine but the transmission seems a big deal breaker. Too unreliable both mechanically and electrically. Don't know if I can trust this one ?

@@GaryFerraro I don’t know if the drive shaft is turning. I think it might be free though because I jacked the car up and the car started moving away like it was in neutral

I change the allu bolts with the 722-6 transmission bell housing steel bolts, had a couple of oil leaks, after this no more problems.
