    Thought: Maybe all of the "cords/ropes" that are seen throughout the video that are spiraling into the sky are markers for locations that the player and/or characters have died? You see them coming from Sam's body in the ocean death scene, and then again in the final shot you can see them littered throughout the landscape.

    I don't like defending people (specially IGN), but for the ones that say "there is no gameplay, this is clickbait": They talked about the story and what we've seen in the trailers, but also how the deaths and the weather in the game work, that's part of the gameplay.
    Also, the title says "Gameplay and Lore explained", implying that they are gonna explain how it works, not show it. If there's anything to critique here, it's the "explained" part, because these were vague conclusions.

    Wait. So Timefall and the baby inside Norman Reedus. Possibly that baby was just Norman's character being reborn, and the timefall, with it's ability to move time forward, moves that baby forward into time to the point where it's an adult again. That makes sense in my head.

    The baby lets them see the ghosts or see if the ghost things are nearby. Notice how the guy had the baby and his machine started to indicate that there were enemies nearby. We couldn't see them and yet he was saying they were surrounded. After he died and when Norman picked up the baby, his machine instantly started to work and he was able to see the monsters or whatever they are. But hey.. That's just a theory!

    Calling it now: at some point in the story (possibly ending), the baby is going to be released from the capsule and the ‘time rain’ is going to make it rapidly grow into an adult; and how about for extra mind fuckery, the baby is actually Norman Reedus (Sam)

      i also cant stand it when people who are supposed to be top notch reporters and analyzers, miss such crucial details and explain things completely wrong.

    • @cblink22
      @cblink22 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey, it's kojima, plus this is all theoretical anyway, much more so than anything in metal gear was. being protected from the rain would make sense in this case, seeing as how the energy or power within the rain to age things, is not coming in contact with organic matter, like skin cells or plant cells, relatively fragile things compared to whatever industrial plastic or material their coats are made from. so in the time a human would age to be old, glass or plastic would not deteriorate much.

  • @Elias-yr1xe
    @Elias-yr1xe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    TL;DR:
    When you die in the game, you are reborn in some ocean and you return to your death position. When you die times doesnt revert to before you died, time passes as you sort of rescurrect(? Details on that is unclear) yourself everytime you die.
    Rain/rainfall and the dark flood of water is a mechanic in the game which is called Timefall. When something comes in contact with the timefall, it rapidly ages (as seen in the last trailer)
    Our main character Norman is an exception doesnt age rapidly for unknown reasons.
    There is only one baby, it appears.

    • @DeathBringer769
      @DeathBringer769 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The scifi raincoat also protects them from the Timefall. That's why the fallen character aged (his face was exposed to the rain) but the other guy trying to help him wasn't affected while he was covered by his suit/raincoat thing.

      @evilseedsgrownaturally1588 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David Lynch improvises throughout his projects, as in he makes stuff up on the go. If something feels right, it probably is and is thusly implemented. There is no strict adherence to a unified grand vision, and what goes on is largely free to individual interpretation. This is why some of his projects quite literally make almost no overall sense beyond an expression of purely artistic merit. It’s good art, dynamic and alive and it speaks to your soul, but it is an altogether different beast than what we are seeing here.
      Lynch is almost the inverse of Kojima’s approach. Definitely more comparable to Andrei Tarkovsky, although that is a bit of a stretch as well. Tarkovsky explored somewhat isolated themes of well established philosophical thought (like Isaac Asimov). Hideo Kojima spreads his eclectic vision almost to the point of thematical oversaturation, given the limited narrative scope of the medium (hence the frequent utilization of massive grandiose cutscenes).

      Yeah, the gameplay is supposed to feel a lot like 3rd person shooters such us Uncharted, but at the same time it's somehow gonna be... more than that? Supposedly, it's gonna be comparable to how the very first Metal Gear game had the same controls that all top-down fighting games had at the time, so people didn't even realize it was supposed to be a stealth game when it came out. I'm paraphrasing, but Kojima _did_ say something to that effect. Essentially, Death Stranding will play like a 3rd person shooter, but there'll be an overarching layer of gameplay on top of that. What that is, we will obviously have to wait to find out.

    • @FalloutWanderer-uq5sh
      @FalloutWanderer-uq5sh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Why not both? Hey, could be, and personally I see no issue with that. If it's similar to how the switch between 1st/3rd person has worked in MGS then it could be a welcome addition to the overall experience imo.

    This really was a perfect trailer though, showing a lot of possible gameplay mechanics in a really natural way, like showing the life bar on the characters wrists (that changes colors like in Dead Space), the moving robotic thingy on their back that might be some kind of danger indicator, the fact that staying still and not breathing keeps you somewhat safe, etc,... There's also a company name on the character's uniforms and vehicles, yeah, that's great.

    Kojima loves to pick people's brains. It's very interesting, The way he creates his video games, The camera angles even in metal gear. Also Death Stranding, It looks so much like a film. I don't think i've seen any other developer make something so unique in my life. Life may be short but no matter what I have to see what this becomes. This is one of my wishes, Arigatō Kojima-san. You make me believe that there is still hope for the video game industry.

    • @audreysamuelson
      @audreysamuelson 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't see it as a double standard. The Last of Us 2 is a sequel. I would imagine that most people already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from it in regards to gameplay.
      But Death Standing is a totally new IP. People are eager to learn about it, so they get frustrated when the trailers for it reveal little besides weird imagery and Norman Reedus openly sobbing for some reason.
      For the record, I hate teasers and trailers that lack gameplay. You are making a game, show me some gameplay.

    New personal theory. When Reedus wakes up from his death, he's in the same place he was before, but crying. I also take in consideration these invisible creatures that leave handprints. My guess is that when he dies he turns into one of those, a type of ghost, and he's crying not only because he's dead, but also because he has to kill to survive, just like the rest of the "ghosts".

  • @foxvdie
    @foxvdie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    interesting...the black goos and time-accelerating stuff remind me of a manga in my reading list, the manga has a similar concept: some people could sense the flow of time as a kind of black water, and they are constant on the run from "time water" to avoid contact, so they could live forever without aging. Normal people are submerged in that water on a daily basic, so they grow, wither and eventually die.

  • @fog7980

    If you watch the other videos, everyone needs an artificial womb while Norman is the only one who doesn’t. I feel like possession of the baby allows people to live after dying, but Norman is special cause the baby is connected to him somehow. The baby seems to avoid danger by teleporting away from it.

    I really believe that the baby being protected may be the last female alive. There were no women in the trailers, not even women soldiers for Mads' army marching with him in the first trailer for this game a year ago. I also believe Sam (Norman) to be the only survivor of whatever Mads' character is and that he is impervious to him. I believe because Sam is the only proven survivor, he is designated to transport (porter) the female baby safely so possibly he can impregnate her and make more safe people. I also believe it possible that Sam is a robot designated to protect the human baby that is possibly the last on Earth in his time

    I think the timefall ( rain ) did not affect anything , only the one who drinks the timefall ( rain water ) is ageing and getting old , because you can see it in the trailer the only man who getting old is the man who is under the car but he didn't get old until he screamed and open his mouth.

    Does everyone forget that in Shadow of Mordor you basically died but you didnt? I mean, youd die, respawn at the tower, but your death and previous actions left a trail in the world. Also the orcs society gets affected by you dying or not. When you meet the one that killed you he'd say something about how he's gonna kill you and you didnt have enough of him beating you.
    I know that Hideo probably will implement the idea of life after death with permanent consequences in a lot more complex and detailed way, but the idea of continuous progress in the timeline without "going back to the last save point" is nothing new

      What if Mads character started on our "side" and he converted over to the other... His technology seems similar to the team Norman's character is with. Not only does he have a version of the robot arm, if you pause you can see he has the baby fetus tank thing on his chest too like the other guy. It's really interesting... I think he went evil.

    Wasn't it supposed to be like those character from different world are PLAYERS and they somehow invade it. That's what was being said about this game months ago and I guess by Kojima himself. Unless it changed in the process but I don't think so. Look at those characters doing that distinctive hand gesture. Mads Mikkelsen's character in the trailer was controlling those zombie soldiers like that.

      Deathbrewer Not likely. Even if the baby is jumping between parallel universes via the artificial womb thing that's always around the device is broken in the first trailer. The baby is seen outside of it. The baby would then be stuck in that universe.
